    For 1995 man that thing was ADVANCED. Like it predicted the future, stood the test of time and seems good in 2012!

    I don't understand what is everyone's beef with the Air Ride. The system is not that complicated. In fact it is INCREDIBLY simplistic for what it does, the parts are not expensive and it can be serviced easier than springs can. I've had 3 so far, a 93, a 96 and a 98. The 93 had a bad release valve, so as a result the car would never auto lower, but it did everything else fine and never leaked. The 96 had a bad front bag when I bought it with 98,000 miles, the dealer replaced it with one from a junkyard, I put 25,000 more miles on it until the compressor went bad, I paid 150.00 for a new one that took 15 minutes to replace, I used that opportunity to sensor lower the car, also took a whopping 10 minutes, and never had anymore problems again up to selling the car. My 98 had ZERO problems, bought it with 63,000 miles, sold it with 83,000. Worked like new. So in between 3 marks that were all daily drivers in every kind of weather, the air ride costed me one air compressor replacement.

      +vendediesel I fully agree....if I were to own any one of these 80's or 90's Lincoln's I would keep the factory air bag suspension as it gives the signature Lincoln ride. I don't understand people's beef about these Ford's either as I find most of them to not know what they are talking about. They are very reliable for the most part and also IF maintained properly and repaired correctly by someone that knows what they are doing. Great story of your lincoln's by the way!!

    • @djhaloeight
      @djhaloeight 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      vendediesel Agreed. I just bought a '93 with 131k miles and it had one bad rear bag. I replaced both with brand new Arnott bags and the air ride works perfectly. Easy to service, bags were a cinch to replace.

      @samschossig334 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      vendediesel I definitely agree except when these cars came out, it cost an arm and a leg to diagnose and repair the air suspension system. But nowadays it’s SO cheap to maintain and service! Some mechanics don’t want to work on them because they don’t know how to fix them and are lazy and don’t want to learn. Nothing rides better than a Lincoln with four wheel air ride man. When I bought my first Mark VII, there was a leak that cause all four sides to fail, and I couldn’t find a mechanic to work on it. I wound up having to buy a conversion kit from strut masters and had the springs installed. I sold the car because I didn’t like the way it rode. Never again will I swap out the air for regular struts and springs. Air ride is king.

    Small correction, the Mark VIII didn't get the 4.6 motor from the Mustang Cobra, the other way around in fact. The mark viii started production in 1993 with the 4.6 and Mustangs didn't get the 4.6 till 1998

    • @zakudog
      @zakudog 10 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      no mustang got the 4.6 in 96

    • @tristanallen2038
      @tristanallen2038 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Yes but it was a 2v 4.6 only the Cobras in 98 got the 4v like the Mark VIII

      Tristan Allen actually you're wrong, in 96 the mustang cobra got the DOHC 4.6..95 and prior GTs and Cobras had the pushrod 302 still.

    I LOVE this car and that's why I have two.....both 1995 Champagne Pearl. My only problems have been the Stereo Amp went bye bye and the the electronic display periodically will say "DOOR AJAR" and not let you read the instant mileage readout. Other than that, I have only had minor suspension repairs on both 140,000 mile cars (as the Cal Smog guy says "the engine is still new, as I use Synthetic Oil), as they are still both "Air Ride". This is the last set of cars I will ever own. At 3750 lbs., it is lighter than a Maserati Coupe by 500 lbs., and on the freeway I get 28 mpg at 70 mph. Why would I want to EVER buy a newer car, as it has most everything that even 2014 Mercedes has, and because of the Independent Rear Suspension, IT HANDLES. GREAT CAR!

    Older Fords seem to do that for some reason. It's not actually overheating, just running a bit higher than normal (hence it's pointing at the 'O' of NORMAL). My Escort used to do the same even after replacing the thermostat.

    I had the pleasure of owning a '98 Mark LSC. For a luxury car I was impressed but expected that. What surprised me how much of a performance car it was. My wife loved it,she claimed it almost drove itself. She drove it like a blue haired granny. Compared to me she ALWAYS got better MPGs. Moonroof & traction lok was the only options that mattered to me. We took long trips taking turns driving. If it wasn't for our kids in back, we could have drove non-stop. Effort less driving, & muscle to boot. I still wonder why the 3 American car makers don't make it anymore. Not all of us prefer
    SUVs. I'll just keep wishing. 🇺🇸

      I'd like to see a Mark IX - not that I could afford it, lol, but maybe down the line when they're about ten years old! I bought my current Mark VIII when it was 13 years old and had 92,000 miles. It looked and drove like new and ran perfect for years! Got a steal too, only $3,400.

    @Saabkyle, I think the main competitor wasn't Lexus or Buick, but Cadillac with the Eldorado. Both are high priced big luxury coupes. Plus I think that's the reason why they used the 32V Ford Modular, to give it comparable power to the 300 hp Northstar engine which debuted in 1993.

    I see alot of GM 1990s B-Bodys with rust issues with the rockers and rear quarter panels in New York nearly daily its hard to find a rust free one up here. The rust starts around the edge of the wheel well and works its way back its a good indication to tell if the vehicle was driven in snow often.

    @saabkyle04 you're correct, some parts were quite unreliable, but having driven both, I still prefer the Lincoln. Maybe it was just the riviera I drove that was full of rust, but I have heard others have had that problem. But you are a Buick man, and don't get me wrong, it's a solid car, I'm just more into power and presence.

    One misstatement of the facts you made, Saabkyle - you stated that this engine was based on the Mustang Cobra's 4.6 DOHC. This engine in the Mark VIII predated the engine in the Mustang Cobra by three years. This engine debuted in the Mark VIII for the 1993 model year. A similar engine appeared in the Mustang Cobra for 1996. So if anything, the engine in the Cobra was based on the engine in the Lincoln, not the other way around.

    One of the last American personal luxury coupes, which were losing sales due to other luxury imports, as well as the SUV craze going into full swing. The Oldsmobile Toronado was killed off before the Mark VIII, and the Buick Riviera and Cadillac Eldorado were killed off after. However, we do now have the Cadillac CTS Coupe available. Time will tell if luxury coupes make a comeback.

    94-98 Mustangs were able to do mid 6s to 60 and were lighter by several hundred pounds so even if GT Mustangs were only 215-225hp they were still faster and had a more firm ride than the cushy Lincoln.
    Anyway I still like the 97-98 Mark VIII LSC, I wouldn't mind having one in perfect condition as I'm not prepared right now to afford expensive bills xD

    Is it mandatory in the US for cars to have the chimes eg door chime, seatbelt chime?
    I'm in Australia, and I have never been in a car that chimes!

    Are you talking about total miles or fuel economy?
    Because 123k miles are great for a 17 year old car (my 2003 Vue is 110k) but that trip computer fuel economy of just 7mpg is just awful, take in mind dealer cars aren't driven like a regular car, moving a car for short trips (test drives, move the car in the dealer's lot, etc) can cheat the trip compute so mileage must improve once it's driven regularly

    I think the 97-98 ones look a lot better. Ironically the most prominent updates were on the headlights and tailights
