Somalis March in Mogadishu to Protest Ethiopia-Somaliland Red Sea Port Deal

- Hundreds of people joined a demonstration in Somalia on Wednesday in protest against a deal between Ethiopia and the breakaway region of Somaliland that Mogadishu has denounced as a violation of its sovereignty.
The Somali government on Tuesday vowed to defend its territory "by any legal means possible" after Somaliland agreed to give landlocked Ethiopia access to its Red Sea coast.
Somaliland, a former British protectorate of about 4.5 million people, has been seeking full statehood since claiming independence from Somalia in 1991.
But the move has not been recognized internationally and is fiercely opposed by Mogadishu.
"People gathered here today ... to protest the aggression against their country and protect it from the enemy," Mogadishu Mayor Yusuf Hussein Jimale told a rally at a stadium in the Somali capital.
The demonstrators, most of them students, chanted slogans against Somaliland president, Muse Bihi Abdi, and Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed who signed the historic memorandum of understanding in Addis Ababa on Monday.
"We came here to show that we are ready to defend our territory and our coastal lands. Not one inch of our territory is for sale," said Ali Mohamed Mire, a Mogadishu resident.

This lead to neighbours like Somalia, Djibouti, Eritrea to become separated mentally and administratively from Ethiopia and protect themselves. Menelik even didn't think twice to give Djibouti and Eritrea to Europeans. After that we were separated like heaven and earth.
Even in Ethiopian politics, Muslims and Christians fight together to bring change, since the Adwa war, Farmers uprising in Haileselassie time.... even recently Qerro and Fano were together. But when the question of power came, systematically all Muslims were put aside, in Jails, killed or fled the country. To this day Gonder and Gojjam are kicking out Amhara Muslims and think we don't hear about it in Addis Ababa.
So, Ethiopia has to fix itself first. Make peace with it's own people. Stop Orthodox Church interference in politics and land grabbing.

Somalia was never historically part of Habesha empire. In fact, the northern Tigre, Lalibela and Amhara people have pushed Muslims out of their cities for very long time. Those people they pushed go and live with Afar, Oromo and Somali Muslims.

Prime Minister Abiy made a call to all the neighbors in his speech to Parliament about port. This is Ethiopia's call to work in peace, realizing that nothing can be achieved by fighting. It was Somaliland that responded to the call. Others, however, said that Somalia did not respond positively, except that we should protect the Red Sea together. In any case, if Somaliland did not make an agreement with Ethiopia, would it not have been independent? If it is a Samalia state, why has it not returned for the past 30 years. The thing is, if another white citizen were to accesses and make this deal, no one would care. It is because we are enmeshed with each other. We have only one option to grow together

Somali people are peaceful people lived in Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, Djibouti,Somaliland but that doesn't mean that you must have the one country.
