- Today we will explore sketching with an elegant writer pen. they are easy to fine (most art/craft stores have them in the calligraphy section), affordable, and fun to see! When you add water, the blick in splits into pink and green, making this a fun ink to sketch with. Let's draw!

Super fun quick sketch. More of these would be welcome!
More to come!
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻♥️
It was fun to watch you do this painting,
which turned out great! Thanks Lindsay. I am glad you used those pens! I have a few and am going to play with them!
Mind:Blown! I LOVE ❤️ this technique! The way the pen granulates into different colors is mesmerizing! I will be buying these pens for sure. Please, more tutorials with these pens!! Maybe a floral/botanical?
Love this little escape into sketching with pens. Monochromatic feels so calming.
Elegant Writer Art!!! 👏🏻 👏🏻
Omgoshhhh, years ago I had an obsession with this pen! I’d spend hours and hours enjoying drawing or tracing a picture and then watering the lines of choice…
Ohhhh the Joys EW has given me.
Also, around the same time, I’d discovered Citrasolv and its magical effects on old National Geographics!
Which led me into a rabbit hole 🕳️ 🐇 of making gelli papers, and then I’d combine all these into collage arts of torn loveliness.
Good time
That is awesome!
I love the pink/blue effect when you use water! Quink ink used to do this but they reformulated it.
As in Parker Quink? Black or blue??
Oh no! Really? I love my old Quink ink because it separates, but haven’t had to replace it yet. That’s a bummer. 😢
I saw these but didn't get what they did. It's really pretty. Although completely different, I like graphitint. This type of tone appeals to me. Kind of vintage.
Thank you Lindsay.
Thank you! Cheers!
This was fun! Thank you! I have some of these, but I didn’t realize I could use water over them-like water soluble graphite or graphitint pencils. I would love to see more of these!💖
Glad it was helpful!
I enjoyed the little back story you thought of while drawing! I imagined it was a very hot day, lots of insects around (hence the mesh and long sleeves) and that she will cook something delicious with whatever she is harvesting 😊. I like calligraphy pens for sketching. I use a LAMY Joy with a broad nib, because Incan get thin lines (writing on the side) and broad libes (writing as it is meant to) I have been experimenting with two toned inks (some Diamine, for example) and it is fascinating. I hope you keep going with these pen & ink experiments. It could be a good resource for plein air, with a minimalist kit. Thabks for the video, Lindsay.
Yes! I was just using fountain pens I filled with watersoluble ink today! Video tomorrow hopefully!
@@thefrugalcrafter yay! Will watch curiously!
I've watched the Karlyn Holman video a dozen times because there weren't a many videos using these but it's so fun to watch. Thanks for adding to the Elegant Writer-sphere!
You are so welcome!
I love these calligraphy pens. Bought them about a month ago and fell in love with the unique color you see after activated with water. So glad to see your tutorial. Thank you sooooo much. ❤
Glad you like them!
Wow Lindsay. I found this amazing!
Thank you so much!!
I use these pens on my cards. They make my "teacher" handwriting look much better. Lol! Haven't thought to draw with them, but I will now!!
That's a great idea!
Neocolor II's do well over those after they dry.
Thanks for the tip!
Love the drawing technique! I like the second attempt! ❤❤❤
Thank you! Cheers!
I love how the ink splits into different colors! It sort of reminds me of the Parker Quink fountain pen ink in black (from around 2001ish), it also separates into different colors when wet, though instead of pink and green, it’s orangeish and bluish. I love that effect, I should ink a fountain pen with my Quink and sketch this! ❤
Yes!
I love my elegant writers
I love using elegant writers like this! I like how you can morph the color when you lift with tissue.
Me too!
Gosh Lindsay, I have a bunch of these...I never even thought to sketch with these!!! Now I can't wait to try this, Thanks! Its like buying a new supply!!!
Have fun!
I must dig out my old set if they haven’t dried up. I’m trying to put together a Plein Air kit and your lovely sketch made me think these would be a perfect addition. Thank you Lindsay ❤
Good idea!
Actually preferred the live one. I was watching this and thought that's why she's so good she really can see and draw it. Watched loads of your videos and love colour sò focus on and enjoy that. Think mmm that turned out well. NOW I have more understanding. I like playing with colour but to produce better paintings I have to see better and draw more.
Thanks!
Hello Lindsay. This is so gorgeous! Now I must go out and buy those pens ha ha. 🤗😘
Have fun!
I recently tried the disposable fountain pens you had recommended and loved them! These look like it will be fun to try too. Thanks for sharing!
My pleasure!
I have these pens, are a blast to work with. Lovely sketchy look to your painting today. Great little watch thank you for doing for us all.
Glad you like them!
Nice music!
I don't think I had any in this video, but yours is rhe one I go for when I do:)
Aww Thanks!!@@thefrugalcrafter
Hullo Lindsay, I have found that fountain pens are wonderful for creating a sketchy picture and adding a wash to still damp ink can bring it to life! I invested in a Noodler’s Triple Tail pen that is truly wonderful and have no trouble recommending it to anyone! I know that fountain pens are not a cheap option, but they can be worth it if you want a consistent tool for the long haul. I guess you are more “Frugal” than I am, but that is a given, eh? Thank you for sharing this lovely method with everybody! I believe that your first attempt has better values and “feel” to it. You are truly inspirational and so generous with your time and experience, thank you. 👍🏼
Thank you, I have a few cheap fountain pens, and they are fun! I just refilled a bunch to play with (studio sessions video coming soon) and I guess there are fountain pen ink you can buy that will do this. I'm not looking because I javecso much to use up first lol!
I love using these with water & have made some nice winter scenes & made them into cards. I think I first saw this technique from CeeCee Creations
Great idea!
was hoping for this tutorial. Pen looks very intetesting.
I haven’t got these pens but I’ve done something similar with fountain pens before. It’s fun to activate the ink and see what colours you get. Would love to see the other one, too!
Will do!
So simple, but also elegant. This is brilliant. I love the way the ink splits
Thanks so much! 😊
Now I want to try these again. Wonderful watching you sketch. Thank you💕💕
My pleasure 😊
Sarah Burns recently discovered similar pens, the Pilot Parallel ones, and filled hers with waterproof ink for doing some urban sketching. These type of pens are becoming popular for sketching with. I bought a 2.4mm and I'm really liking it. I haven't tried either painting out the ink or changing the ink to waterproof yet.
Those look great too!
@@thefrugalcrafter I just had a go at this image. Mine is very dark compared to yours. I'm usually too timid with my shadows, but not today lol. I posted it on Instagram and tagged you
I love this. Beautiful! You make it look so much easy.
Thank you! 😊
That was very cool….had to get these pens. I love the quick sketching and then the flow of how it all came together. I liked both sketches, but I think I like the second one better. You make me want to keep trying different mediums. Thanks, Lindsay.
Glad you enjoyed it!
That is who i watched years ago showing what you can do with these pens, amazing. She was a wonderful artist. I have several of her books.
I'll have to look for her books!
I've been using these pens for over twenty years! I was a preschool teacher who made happy cards for my students! One of my favorite pens 🖊!
That is awesome!
I have these pens too but forgot about them. I really want to give this one a try! Love the effect of grisage.
Thanks 😊
Love this! More sketching would be awesome! 😊
More to come!
That was a fun one! I like the second one best:)
Thanks for voting
i have the same set i got 2 of the 2.0 ones also ,i got 4 in my set ,thank you for all you teach and inspire me with,
That is awesome!
Very nice. Both sketches are good but I agree first one stands out more and focuses on the figure. I have an elegant writer that's been in my pencil cup for years. Gotta get It out and use it. Thank yiu!
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much for reminding me. I brought these on sale and forgot why..this is why🎉🎉🎉🎉yeaaa
My pleasure 😊
Great video thanka for sharing this one with us. these pena would be fun to use for urban sketching
Definitely!
Love these pens. I brought mine back out a few weeks ago to play with. The colours that bleed out are so pretty. Love your sketch!
Thanks so much! 😊
I did this one tonight since I happen to have the pens. I loved it! Hope you will do more of this with us.
I will!
Yes MORE!
Thanks Lyndsay 😊
You are so welcome!
Liked the first one better. I love to watch you work though.
Fair enough!
Wow, I haven’t tried this, looks fun and beautiful!
It is!
Love the elegant writer & Karlyn Holman's work.
Me too!
Those pens are really cool. I first heard of them on the Etcher Studio TH-cam channel with artist Allan Kirk. He does such beautiful paintings with them. ❤
Thanks for the info! I'll have to check him out!
I need to revisit mine ! Thanks for the inspiration.
Please do!
Loveeeee it!
My sketching is nothing to write home about, but I have used this technique for backgrounds. ❤. Thanks
That's great!
so cool
Thank you Lindsay. This was great🎉 the ink with different pigment particles is wicked.💜
You are so welcome!
This looks stunning, a fantastic tutorial ☺☺
Thank you! Cheers!
Love the sketching!!
Thanks!
This was so fantastic! I want to try this!!
Please do!
I love these. I like them both. I have these pens and haven't used them yet, they've been collecting dust. for a couple years. But going back into them with water is a game changer, my interest is piqued! Why didn't I think of that, lol?
Probably because they are meant for calligraphy writing and not drawing.
Fabulous technique and excellent sketching skills!!!
Thank you so much 😀
I was just playing with mine a day ago on mixed media paper and it didn’t come out so good lol, but now seeing this I’m going to try again on watercolor paper this time!! Thanks for this video!❤❤❤
Have fun!
I love these pens! I would love to see more sketches and techniques with them.
Off-topic, what adhesive would you recommend for adhering two soft, flexible pieces of plastic together with? Think flexible cutting mat type of material. I've used two different e-6000s and plastic cement by testors.
Sookwang double sided tape sheets
So they are supposed to be skipping like that? Love watching you sketch, gives me confidence to do it more. This is such interesting technique. Are you familiar with Scarborough area in Maine? My niece is getting married at her boyfriend’s grandmas house there in August. Are you anywhere near there? Would so love to meet you.
The pens are old and the paper is rough so that might be the skipping. I am a couple hours north of there but I have a cousin there!
Beautiful! Love these pens. Is there fountain pen ink that can have a similar colour splitting effect?
I'm sure there is, I just don't know much about inks
Another question....do you need to add the water right away? Or will it still reactivate if you sketch and then come back hours or days later to do the water part?
I love this pen and sketch. Are all calligraphy pen inks water soluable? I have a calligraphy pen with extra nibs and four different colors. I accidentally got water on the sketch and the ink ran. I used this to my advantage.
I'm not sure
😎
This is nice! Question....when you were sketching, the ink looked black, but when you added the water...it looks blue-ish? Or did you have some color on your brush?
You can leave it for months and it will reactivate!
@thefrugalcrafter that's awesome!
Im sorry if I missed it, but.... is that the black pen and u activate it, looks bluish?
Yes, it is only the pen, the color splits to pink and green.
@@thefrugalcrafter wonderful! Im getting it. Thx hon! 😊
👍🏻👏🏻👍🏻♥️♥️♥️
❤hello from Beautiful British Columbia Canada
Hello 👋
Tiger head? Wait did Disney trick me and it's really the Tiger King not the Lion King. 😅 JK nice pens.
😆 I'm an artist, not a zoologist
