Very nice build video. I remember as soon as I saw those 4mm match grade components drop at the ATA show I tagged you in their Instagram post about them. Glad you were able to get some and do a build yourself with them. The 75 grain size is the one that I would use in a build as well. 😎🏹
Thankful for this video showing your arrow building process. Great breakdown of the Modsaw too, been looking for a review as I’m interested in getting one
Love the video. I really enjoy making my own arrows, it's quite therapeutic for me. Also something to make life a little easier is there is plug in automatic plugs so when you power on your saw it will automatically turn on the vac and off when you power it off. It's a small thing but it's nice!
Iron Will Bill suggests marking right in front of the rest and add a quarter inch, plus collar length. Also, a candle works well with hot melt. Preciate you Dan!
Great video buddy! I know it’d be out of the norm a little but with all your experience elk hunting I’d love to see a video of your field gear for your extended hunts. You’re Very knowledgeable so I’d like to see your insight!
Really enjoy the variety of content. Looks like you're getting a good amount of flex in the squaring attachment. Might want to keep an eye on consistency. 🤙
You should spin the arrows before cut and determine if one end of the arrow ‘wobbles’ more than the other. Then make a new clean cut in each end to square. Then cut the wobble out of the end that is more ‘wobbly’!! You will end up with the straightest section of each arrow.
Dan, could you clarify for me please, did your Final Cut end up being the middle of the shelf measurement or did you add or subtract for the collar? Your camp has inspired me to get more involved with the building process, no-one is going to put as much attention to detail into your stuff as you doing it yourself, I want to be the weakest link, not my gear, consistency=accuracy. Thanks
I just ordered a fresh batch of Altra .204 shafts and these inserts. I cut my arrows to 26.5. How much extra do i cut off to keep them at 26.5 with these inserts?
Nice video dude! I did not see the link to the arrow saw, any discounts? I have two questions: How come you didn’t spine indexed the arrows to know where to put the cock vane and why you did not squared the nock end? Just curious, thanks.
that arrow saw is crazy quiet! did you have any issue with that plastic flexing when you were squaring the arrow? I noticed when you were pushing down on the squaring side there was a bunch of flex on the rollers.
The rollers were just set too far apart, thus the shaft flexed. They should be really close each others, just like in the G5 tool, and you roll the shaft in between without it flexing.
Hey Dan! Do you see any parachuting with the helical off the mini max? I have been using it for a while and haven’t noticed it but I rarely shoot past 80. I have noticed what looks like parachuting in some of your videos on long shots and I’m just checking if it’s a concern.
I’m gonna shoot gold tip pierce this summer with gold tips 52gr aluminum insert then for deer season I’ll switch to the pierce platinums with their titanium 55gr insert. Cheaper components for killing foam
Need some advice. Currently shooting easton 5mm. I want to try the Easton 4mm LR for some better f.o.c. 30in draw pulling 70 lbs should I go with 300 spine or 250? . Was planning to run 175 up front.
Hey Dan, are you going to be listing the mod saw on the Elk shape site? Great looking saw and very reasonably priced. Love the content sir. Good work men.
@ElkShape Roger. I appreciate it sir. Gotta get on the site tomorrow and throw some support. I definitely need a coffee cup and some tees. Cheers brother.
If I closed my mini max jig that fast, one of the vanes would somehow be halfway down the shaft of the arrow and another would be sitting on the nock. I can’t get my vanes even with that thing if my life depended on it.
Does is have a reverse taper to help the collar and the carbon to come together and become the strongest part of the arrow instead of the weakest? Elk shape is a great guy and really know what he is doing. I love his videos.
Hey Elkshape, did you get an affiliate link for the saw or just doing the review? I’m looking at building my own arrows and this would be cool to have.
@@ElkShape that’s what I have done. Called Iron Will and they suggested putting pressure on the tip while tightening. Just wish there was a little more scientific foolproof way of trueing them up.
I've probably arrowed way MORE bulls with Easton FMJ and Axis 5mm than any other arrow. I ran RIP TKO's from '21-23. I wanted to give Easton a fair shake in '24 on their 4mm offerings. They are made in 🇺🇸 which is pretty cool and I obviously still have love for Victory. We did a video on Altra last month as well. Lots more to come! -DS
I'd set that second roller closer and use the squaring device as if it were a G5 ASD. You said "Battery Bank" is it 12v? My guess is no. Slip of the tongue. Nice looking saw
I have to ask as i'm new to Archery over the last year but am making my own arrows now... how is this saw better than my dremel which I don't seem to be having any issues with?
I would say take a longer skinny broadhead that you know is straight even if you use just the shaft of a head that you can remove the blades that should work. That way any small movement will be shown more than a short wide head
i know the saw will work fine but to me the knobs are to small maybe a little different design so your fingers can turn them with a little more ease. one big thing is the squaring head is 3D printed and extremely flimsy you can see in the video keep that im mind when your turning the shaft the bottom of the jig is going to remove more material that the top
Nice arrows! I noticed before vanes and broadhead, you were at 318. After vanes and broadhead you were at 463, but wanted to be a little lighter. With that amount of bump, I’m assuming you’re still running the 125 point. Could you drop to 100 and still have the FOC, putting you around 440? Love your content! Congrats on hitting 100k!
Would be nice if Mod Saw answered their emails. 3 inquiries on their site with no response. Can’t trust a company that doesn’t have the courtesy or integrity to answer basic email inquiries. Too bad. Would have ordered a saw yesterday. Guess it’s back to the good old industry standard saws.
Hey Robert, you emailed us at 3:15 pm yesterday, we responded this morning. Since you are in Canada we are working through the paperwork in order to sell there.
Nice arrow build! However your choice of broadhead only excels in penetration not tissue destruction, you should do more research on firearms and bullets and understand better how bullets cause deadly tissue trauma/damage. A well designed 4 blade head will create more soft tissue damage resulting in death at a faster rate plus larger wound channel and more transfer of energy into the soft tissue. Educate the community, shake up the industry! Tooth of the arrow XL S 4 blade might be the best one piece 4 blade on the market?
I feel like ElkShape has lost its spark. Don’t get me wrong, I still watch the channel and enjoy the content. I just feel as if the quality of the videos has gone way down. It seems as if you all are putting videos out just to get them out. The last thing the TH-cam hunting community needs is another product reviewer. That’s not what ElkShape use to be but that is what it’s quickly turning in to.
That’s what archery TH-cam content is in the off season. Product reviews and how many different arrow combinations can you make. Gets stale after a while.
Hey Josh! Consider starting your own channel, you can control the production quality & subjects you're interested in! I like this video - it shows a new arrow build, new to me components and saw... has a MACRO LENS to get you clear detailed shots. I'm proud of it.
Cool to see a review on the mod saw I've been checking these out and considering getting one
Would really like to see an all titanium version of the 4mm outserts/collars
I don’t understand why it hasn’t happened.
I’m totally thinking the same thing since they came out with the new system
Josh said in a video that Easton is coming out with them soon.
MFJJ @ podium archer makes a titanium 4mm halfout with a collar

Great video! The time and effort you guys take to put these together is appreciated.
Ryan and Cora did a great job with the mod saw
Good timing. Makin room on my bench for that Modsaw.
been binge watching your channel and man has it been helpful! Loving it man honest content that’s helps big time!
I absolutely love the video! That mod saw looks super slick. I might have to look into that! Keep up the good work!
Great video! Good looking saw, it has some great features!

I just purchased the modsaw and really like it. Very fast delivery and super easy to set up. Works great!

Learning alot about arrow building. Could you do a video on the pros and cons on arrow the different arrow diameter.
Bought a mod saw because of this vid. Thanks for the content Dan! Always pick up valuable information and learn about useful, worthwhile, tools.
Hey Dan great video I like all the test you do I glad you enjoy testing and sharing
God's Blessings

Where you get that arrow fletcher from i never seen that kind before.
Nice arrow build. Question, how much does arrow length change from bow to bow if any? Given same components on arrows.
that arrow saw is crazy quiet! did you have any issue with that plastic flexing when you were squaring the arrow? I noticed when you were pushing down on the squaring side there was a bunch of flex on the rollers.
I saw movement too!
No issues thus far, going to cut some more arrows and put it through its paces! -DS

Dude I am super bummed. I had just ordered a carbon express and then found out about the MODSAW definitely is the total tool I was looking for.
Honest question; is this a better user experience than the Carbon Express?
I’m gonna shoot gold tip pierce this summer with gold tips 52gr aluminum insert then for deer season I’ll switch to the pierce platinums with their titanium 55gr insert. Cheaper components for killing foam

Dan i got the Modsaw what is the purple release you are holding
Do you ever use a spine calculator to figure carbon to carbon length for optimum spine
Never squared an arrow...but I'd imagine you don't want the bearings so spread out, you can see the arrow flex when you spun it.
If I closed my mini max jig that fast, one of the vanes would somehow be halfway down the shaft of the arrow and another would be sitting on the nock. I can’t get my vanes even with that thing if my life depended on it.

Dan what arrow do you think your going to run for 2024 elk season
Couldn't you go with 350 spine since you cut it short and get lighter arrow?
Where can we buy the saw?
They have a website direct to consumer
What is the iron will is not true in the ferrule? Do you have a good way of making the blade true to the ferrule?
T6 driver, loosen set screw on the blade and manipulate from there ✌🏼
@@ElkShape that’s what I have done. Called Iron Will and they suggested putting pressure on the tip while tightening. Just wish there was a little more scientific foolproof way of trueing them up.
How you like that mod saw?
Aae nocks are good, but why aren’t you using the Beiter Hunter nock??
Deburr/ chamfer the aluminum core after cutting. That should help with the o-ring loss.
Ya, we use the tool that Ironwill makes for that - probably show that off on another vid! -DS
lol at the comments just telling you what to do differently when you didn’t ask. What degree helical are you going with on these? Great vid!
Hey Dan, Awesome video! Why did you decide to go with Easton arrows instead of your regular Victory RIP TKO arrows?

Agreed and it runs off 110 power, not a battery.
what kind of watch is that?
What is that glue puck you are using? I am starting a small shop and would like to get those instead of these little bohning glue sticks.
It’s on iron will and podium archer website
That “made in America” but cracked me up
It's a good idea to square both sides of the shaft. You can't count on the manufacturer being square, either.
I have to ask as i'm new to Archery over the last year but am making my own arrows now... how is this saw better than my dremel which I don't seem to be having any issues with?
A dremel... it kinda is a dremel in a way. It's obviously set-up for easy cutting.
I use a dremel too. Made a jig for it. So far so good
I bought a modsaw a few months ago, it's legit. This is gonna blow his little business up no doubt.
I would say take a longer skinny broadhead that you know is straight even if you use just the shaft of a head that you can remove the blades that should work. That way any small movement will be shown more than a short wide head
Being that it's 3d printed, I wonder how long it'll take for it to wear.
We'll find out.
Thanks for all the helpful information and great content as always
What the heck happened to RIP TKOs? I can’t even find em in my local shop anymore
i know the saw will work fine but to me the knobs are to small maybe a little different design so your fingers can turn them with a little more ease. one big thing is the squaring head is 3D printed and extremely flimsy you can see in the video keep that im mind when your turning the shaft the bottom of the jig is going to remove more material that the top
How short did your arrows come out to be
25 & 3/8"
Dan sounds like he has a cold maybe I’m wrong but if so feel better love vids you guys rock !!
You didn't give a price on the saw. Are you or MFJJ going to be selling the saw or do we buy direct?
Did you not like the VAP RIP TKO’s?
I have never used VAP TKO's, just RIPs. They're great.

Nice
Nothing beats mfjj titanium inserts
Dude you got to square your nock side! The nock side of the arrow is more important to have square then the point side
I don't know, you certainly could!
@@ElkShape You have to square the nock side, that’s where your first impact is from the string, if it’s crooked it will kick out crooked.
Thank you for being brave enough to come out of the closet! It was subtle but I caught it! 🎉
Put a trash can under the end where pieces will fall into trash.
