German sailing ship GORCH FOCK is bid farewell from port with an old folk song

On March 8, 2024, the sail training ship GORCH FOCK left the Kiel Wik naval base to embark on its 177th overseas training voyage (AAR).
The departure ceremony was accompanied by music from the Kiel Naval Music Corps under the direction of Lieutenant Captain Inga Hilsberg.
For the first time in the history of my canal, the folk song "Muss i denn, muss i denn zum Städtele hinaus" was played as the ship cast off - a revived tradition in Kiel. Previously, the musicians usually played "Anchors Aweigh" when casting off.
The song also became famous through an adaptation by Elvis Presley under the name Wooden Heart.
I would like to thank the MMK Kiel for this. Bravo Zulu, Ms. Hilsberg. You got to the heart of the matter at temperatures around freezing point. I am touched.

Am 8. März 2024 verließ das Segelschulschiff GORCH FOCK den Marinestützpunkt Kiel Wik, um zur 177. Auslandsausbildungsreise (AAR) aufzubrechen.
Musikalisch begleitet wurde die Auslaufzeremonie vom Marinemusikkorps Kiel unter Leitung von Frau Kapitänleutnant Inga Hilsberg.
Zum ersten Mal in der Geschichte meines Kanals erklang beim Ablegen das Volkslied "Muss i denn, muss i denn zum Städtele hinaus" - eine wiederbelebte Tradition in Kiel. Bisher spielten die Musikerinnen und Musiker zumeist "Anchors Aweigh" beim Ablegen.
Ich danke dem MMK Kiel sehr dafür. Bravo Zulu, Frau Hilsberg. Bei Temperaturen um den Gefrierpunkt auf den Punkt gebracht. Ich bin gerührt.
