My maternal grandmother suffered from dementia for nearly a decade before her death and I recognize the symptoms. I don't care where you stand on the political spectrum, this is elder abuse.
Trump has dementia, but Biden doesn't. Biden is sharp, alert, with a great sense of humor.

In fairness, you have to walk with care in leather soled shoes, even across carpet, I find. All I could see was an immaculately dressed Biden braced for criticisms of his performance as President. He nailed it. Not responding to a convicted felon (Trump) will be seen, in time, as the right strategy.
The only perspn who may have been truly surprised that night was Trump up there on the debate stage. As restrained as Trump was, he could not hide that WTF expression on his face.

It's seemed quite obvious to me for years that he was in the early stages of dementia. I noticed parallels with my own grandfather. The amount of effort put into denying and concealing that has been absurd.

@moniquehuchet3646 My wife is Joe's age. She has none of the symptoms we see here with Joe. She told me that she couldn't imagine doing his job -- let alone add in the campaigning. His own predecessor was a brilliant guy in his 40s who could play basketball at a decent amateur level. This is closer to the real standard. Someone has to intervene.
I watched the debate through my fingers. It was absolutely excruciating.
I found myself holding my breath. I scanned ABC,NBC,CBS and no fact checking. I stopped subscribing to the 24 hour Cable News stations so I won’t know until I play Social media clips today. This has me worried as many people won’t take the time to seek out the actual facts. TCFG lied constantly per usual but came across better prepared than Biden and the comparison between their performances will make TCFG look great to too many I’ll informed people. 😢

Re-watch his 2020 debates - it's a completely different Biden. He was old but still sharp then, and was the right person to beat Trump. He's declined a lot in these last four years, especially the last year or so.
He's performed well at public events like the correspondents dinner and the state of the union.

I saw him speak in person 2 years ago, and he was in pretty good shape then. Maybe it was just yesterday, but his health and awareness seem to have decreased majorly recently.

One thing that is different is that US citizens vote for the president directly, whereas in the UK they vote for the MP and that matters just as much. So a debate between Sunak and Starmer doesn’t mean as much if you already support the MP in your constituency. For US citizens, it really is a choice between Biden and Trump so any debate between the two is important and influential.
No, we actually do not directly vote for them, we vote indirectly through the Electoral college. Yes the line on the ballot is seperate then the votes for Legislative seats (which are direct), but this dosn't make it a direct election.

The window of time for swapping out Biden is extremely narrow because a number of states have differing and firm laws limiting /prohibiting late swapping of candidates. Some of these states are among those in play for electoral college wins.

The comments from Democratic party leaders have been devastating for me and other life-long Democrats. The idea that we should accept a leader with cognitive issues because he has a good team is offensive to voters. As a lifelong Democrat, I am angry and inclined to vote Green.
I agree that picking the candidate that can beat Trump is paramount, and I feel picking up swing votes is the most essential consideration.

My understanding is that a lot of Biden's team are intrinsically tied to him, so if he goes, they go. Consequently, you end up with a lot of people in Biden's inner circle pushing him towards podiums, because they're thinking about their own career before the good of the country.

Well it was apparent even before he became president... not nearly as bad as it is now, but those few times he made a public appearance even back then told it's own story. I honestly thought he would resign within a few months paving the way for Kamala to become the first female president of the US and i wasn't entirely against that back then, to be fair(just because i didn't know enough about her).
