Southgate needs to know when to make subs and be brave enough to make them. Harry Kane and Foden were missing all game, could have brought them off to try something fresh, there are plenty of attacking options.

What worried me most about last nights game was how slow Southgate was to make changes, he needs to be more proactive and not reactive. We got the win though which is most important.
I find it baffling how Southgate gets soo much praise for the improved England performance in major tournaments under him. Anyone would have done that at the minimum with the squad he has. And it's not just that the England squad is really strong, other major teams like Spain, Germany and Italy have gone down in recent years (despite Italy winning the last euro). So, it's to be expected that England will be doing better than in past years. England should have won at least 1 major trophy or reached 2 major finals with that squad

I would have taken off Trent at halftime played a midfield two of Rice and Jude. Brought on either Watkins or Ivan Toney, to support Kane. That game needed two strikers.
I would have taken off Foden and Saka after 65mints for Gordon and Cole Palmar. 75mints I bring on Mainoo for Bellingham and Ivan Toney for Kane.
There’s no way I’m playing Trent in midfield.
I think England should have killed the gAme off with another goal, and because of that, it allowed Serbia to go on the front foot and try to draw the game.
The main thing is to win your first game, cause you don't want to be second in the group and face a heavyweight right away , don't get me wrong England can play against and beat any nation at the Euros but you gonna go step by step.
There's room for improvement and I am sure Southgate will learn and get it right, hopefully they will go one better than the last Euros, but don't get ahead of yourselves, top the group first.

Southgate plays not to lose. He doesn't play to win. We were crying out for an outlet in the second half. We had Gordon, Eze and Watkins on the bench. Southgate is the weak link.

Foden needs to be a sub, this is one thing that has to happen before the Denmark game. He was absent pretty much the whole game and cannot perform for England.

@HuwEvans. with England’s quality, abysmal is the nicest word to describe their performance yesterday.
They could try attacking the oppostion goal from time to time instead of just keeping possession. A lot easier to see out a game if you have a cushion of goals instead of a paniced desperate attempt to protect just one.

That 2nd half performance was very worrying, one of the top teams would have beaten us. Its been the same for 50 years, our players have the ability but lack the mentality to beat top teams especially in the knockout stages. Once they come under any kind of pressure they can't string 3 passes together. Gareth's a nice guy but as a manager at this level he's clueless.
2 holding midfielders against a back 5 was always going to be a problem
Drop the double pivot and play Rice with Foden and Bellingham ahead. Bring Gordon in on the left. Lean into our attacking strengths and stop being negative.
Gareth need to tell players to move more off the ball zip passes to each other even in defence not tell them that after 45 mins of basically no threat possession football that they need to slow down

None of those changes would of changed anything if the tactics stayed the same.
Personally I think going back to the dark days of 442 and hoofing it up to strikers is a terrible idea.
I'd much rather control games and create chances like most modern teams do.
That's how the players want to play, like they do for their clubs.
Again it's not playing world class players like Trent and foden that's the problem.
It's playing slow boring safe stodgy Southgate tactics that's the issue.
A change of formation or team selection won't change s thing when the team is passing at 1 mile an hour.

England need two strikers because we all watched Kane spursing like basically did nothing. Watkins alongside Kane would be a tactical change. Jude Bellingham did everything in midfield so play him in a midfield two alongside Rice.
Foden was playing like a lost kid... Kane no were to be found
Foden kept making runs as he does for city but his runs went overlooked and rarely if at all got the ball from another player. He should have been subbed off as he wasn’t being used in this game.
Harry kane was the only problem in that team. We need a striker who makes sprints and runs in behind , especially if you have trent in the team
What difference would it make?
You can go Kane or Watkins. Trent or mainoo.
Foden or Gordon.
It won't stop the team playing crap while the tactics are so bad.

Perhaps give Foden a chance as a 10, and if that doesn't work significantly better bench him. I want to see Gordon on the left. Want to see Palmer come on aswell. Gallagher and Bowen did well when they came on.

Gareth should have not dropped Grealish and played him where Foden played in the first game. Not an England fan but he should also not played Kane up front but as a false 9 behind Vardy who should also be in the team.

In the last 3 games we have seen every player get minutes and at no point have we looked cohesive.

Losing the ball 20 times in the defensive half in 2nd half was not good vs losing it 8 times in the first hakf, which was excellent.
That can be fixed with improved fitness & better SLEEP after prayer or meditations, which in turn improves focus.

Very poor performance, only old people claim we finally win opening games. As a young brit, I don't care about the piss poor england of old. We are a new generation and 1000 times more talented than past generations. We need to win dominating small teams like that and not play scared. Trent in midfield just shows me, that the manager has no clue what to do with the squad. This game should never be as close as it was yesterday. Germany would have trashed them easily, but they have actually got an amazing coach, unlike us. I like gareth, but he isnt on the level we need the manager to be
94 touches for rice but non creative. Just make easy pass here and there to get the stat. Rather to have someone with 10 touches but creative one that leads to goal. Drop rice.

Saka was class constantly pushing forwards and providing quality balls to kane Foden and bellingham. Foden and kane flopped this game Southgate took an L by not subbing them off we had so many quality forewards on the bench Cole palmer olle Watkins ivan toney ect clda brought 2 of them or even all 3 of them on to replace kane and foden perhaps someone else aswell in the 70th-80th typa minutes to switch it up upfront but no kane and foden are Southgates favorites and Southgate is known to be heavily biased depending on what players he personally gets on better with ect

Any international team can keep the ball like England did first half when not being pressed, Serbia made it so easy for England first half and England still failed to create anywhere near enough good chances. The 2nd half came as no surprise. Serbia came out with a lot more intention to go forward and put pressure on the ball. Where did all our so called big name/game players disappear to. Foden Bellingham Arnold Saka, as soon as they were put under pressure they left the fight, typical over hyped over paid England players. Believe me I want England to win as much as the next person but I'm sorry it just pees me off watching 2nd half performances like that. Happens time and again with England. Also think Southgate should never ever have been made England Manager, just my opinion.
