    Hey everyone,
    Hope you enjoyed these tracks as much had I did!
    I now understand Pomme was also singing in the French section at the end of Everything Matters. She was incredible, just wanted to highlight that.
    Hope everyone is well!

      I immediately felt that country sound in "A Dangerous Thing" and I even think her accent sounds like an American southern accent in the chorus when she sings "getting better" 🙂
      Adam you did mention "country music" once before in an Aurora reaction to the unreleased song "When I'm Gone (Getting Colder)", and I agree the beat in that one has a bit of the same, but it is even more pronounced in "A Dangerous Thing".
      I also prefer ADT over EM, but EM is growing on me.
      Here are a few quotes from Aurora about the 2 songs:
      “It’s a very strange story,” she says of ‘Everything Matters’. “A story I would like for people out there to figure out themselves. I contacted a French artist, Pomme , to write the ending for me. And it is beautiful. Sensual. And real. I do often feel like this world is trying to make me focus on all these great miracles. And somehow I feel like it makes me miss out on the small ones. And that is sad. Because the small miracles happen all the time. Sometimes several times a day. And I want to see all of them. Because everything matters.”
      Of ‘A Dangerous Thing’, she adds, “There’s a lot of beauty in this world. And there’s a lot of ugly. I was surprised to learn how often the ugly is disguised as beauty. How often poison is disguised as wine. And life disguised as death. And when we learn that what we thought was good for us, is in fact bad for us - even then we tend to go return to it. Because at least it’s familiar. And all we ever dream about is home. Seductive, yet destructive. A dangerous thing indeed.”

      On first listen with you, I was pretty much along the same first impressions.
      HOWEVER...since, the astonishing beauty of Everything Matters from lyricism and message, the dynamics of the vocals and the absolute perfection of the production has latched on to me far more than A Dangerous Thing...itself a masterpiece. But for me Everything Matters feels like a timeless tapestry of focusing on the little things in life and the beauty therein (such an Aurora thing to remind us of!!).
      The line "So pure and it hurts when the beauty is lost in the speed" sums it up. Slow down and experience, see it!!
      Pay attention, everything matters, don's miss the little beauties.
      I believe in her lexicon, years from now this song will have major long-term staying power and cross generations. Immediate top 5 for me and I guarantee one I will be listening to forever.

    I can't think of a better description of being in a abusive relationship than "I keep on losing feathers". That is a genius line. It both alludes to loss of innocence (angel wings) both also a bird wasting away in a cage.

    Aurora's been very open about taking inspiration from Greek mythology for this upcoming album. So with that in mind, I think "Dangerous Thing" is an interpretation of the story of Icarus with the thought that the sun is a representation of the God, Apollo.

  • @WhiteTiger333
    @WhiteTiger333 2 ปีที่แล้ว +23

    Aurora was not singing in French. Pomme was singing in French. 😀 I totally agree. Aurora is not a "pop" singer. To me, she is closer to classical, even opera. But, of course, it is not that, either. She samples, as you said, whatever she needs to express what she wants us to understand, imbibe, and shine in our own uniqueness. 💖
    Everything Matters reminds me of the teaching story with King Janaka and Ashtavakra. To make a long story much, much shorter, the King wanted to know - what is real, the waking state or the dream state? Because both seem completely real when they are happening. The answer was - who is the one who knows when you are dreaming and when you are awake? That witness is what is real. I truly feel that Aurora knows this and is urging us, through her exquisite music, to understand that for ourselves. We are so very, very much more than the 'sound and fury' of the outer play. She points us within, to the place where each of us is a vital part of Life.
    And in the second one, she completely nailed the seduction of short term pleasure at the great expense of our divinity. (The losing feathers). To me, it reminded me of "I Went Too Far". Don't we all, at some point or another in our lives?! She is truly a marvel how she sings the absolute gamut of our very human existence!!
    Yes, yes, as you said at the end, her music is to dive in and explore. And, imo, it just gets better! She recently said that she is already starting on her next album. Yowsa!! I so look forward to the rest of this one. I'm sure it will be a cohesive journey.

    My first interpretation of the lyric "I keep on loosing feathers" is, loosing freedom (loosing the ability to fly) and maybe also, loosing comfort, warmth and innocence..

  • @Nexus8VK

    Thank you for your reaction. Aurora and Askjell at the piano for Everything Matters, and I believe Aurora plays during the final section. And I think the instrument used to get the “to me, to me, to me, to me” effect is called a Vocoder? It can probably be achieved with other tools, as well.
    Aurora provided backing vocals for Pomme and vice versa for Aurora’s verses. :)
    A Dangerous Thing: That guitar, though! The song is possibly about being in a relationship with a narcissist. A lot of people are comparing A Dangerous Thing to her Rasputin cover, saying the structure is a bit similar, and that both give off subtle country/Dolly Parton/Jolene-vibes. Anyway, her (song) production and arrangements are getting more and more sophisticated, and both have always been terrific.
    P.S. It’s “sedusive,” as I’m sure you’ve heard on repeat listens. Aurora made up a new word. :) Not really, it’s been in the British English dictionary for a few years.

    • @TheAkal
      @TheAkal 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Seducive also works for the rhyme. Ahhh poetry.

    • @Nexus8VK
      @Nexus8VK 2 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      @@TheAkal It does, and sure is. Unfortunately a small number of ‘fans’ like to point out any “mistake” that may, or typically may not, exist. Then they suggest, say, seductive/destructive instead of sedusive/abusive. Anyhoo… back to enjoying the songs! :)

  • @kippys1
    @kippys1 2 ปีที่แล้ว +10

    I really enjoyed your reaction! I love both tracks, but I gravitate towards EVERYTHING MATTERS -- the poetry is sublime! I noticed that for the section Pomme sings in French, she must have initially translated AURORA's words into French, then played around with those lyrics in French in order to bring in the proper rhyme scheme and stressed syllables, etc. This resulted in slightly different lyrics that add even further meaning to the song as a whole:
    The part of Everything Matters that Pomme sings in French, translated into English:
    Somewhere, before dawn
    When the light wants to see us
    Somewhere in the world a bird falls asleep
    Without noise, you and I
    At night we will find
    Somewhere to place the flowers we picked
    Leave before dawn
    When the light wants to see us
    Somewhere in the world a bird falls asleep
    Without noise, you and I
    At night we will find
    Somewhere to place the flowers we picked
    Leave before dawn
    When the light wants to see us
    Somewhere in the world a bird falls asleep
    Without noise, you and I
    At night we will find
    Somewhere to lay the flowers

    I loved both songs, but, like you, A Dangerous Thing grabbed me right away. I love her new guitarist Fredrik Svabo. He's adding some really interesting twang to some of her music which is giving it a bit more meatyness than earlier albums. Her previous guitarist Fredrik Vogsborg was really good, but his style was different. A Dangerous Thing, honestly, with the melodies and the tambourine jangles, brought to mind an almost classic Fleetwood Mac sound. Aurora, Norwegian Stevie Nicks! Great reaction!

    Adam. Spot on. I pre-ordered the Album and as each single is released I am so excited. AURORA is an artist whom you can love just reading her lyrics. I gravitate to artists that can stand on their written words alone.

For me lyric it is like poetry and from the start I have my interpretation. I think the loosing feathers line is an angle reference. The song starts out with saying the other person seems like an angle but is actually dangerous and I wonder if the loosing feathers line could mean that the pov person was like an angle but through this relationship is also turning into a dangerous thing under the surface. I think the song also fits really nice with I went too far narrative wise (musically they are very different).

      I believe Aurora based all of her songs on this album on Greek mythology. In this case I believe A Dangerous Thing is about Icarus and his flight too close to the sun. I think that the "dangerous thing" is the sun. Of course there are a multitude of layers of meaning to the song and it's really up to the listener to decide for themselves what it means to them.

    21:15 - that would be interesting, we’ll see how things work out.
    As for other suggestions/unreleased songs, I hope you’ll sneak in a few before the album is released. You have a long list of songs, some are too risky (for instance Silent Violence - which has been taken down multiple times), others that have been around for a long while should be fine (All My Demons, Encrypted Love, We Were Going To Do That, etc.)

    This is so f****** smart musically. The way that Aurora just doesn't resolve things and keeps restarting them during the chorus just added so much to the feeling she was trying to convey. Like you were right there with her as she gives the abusive relationship another chance, only for it to repeat some more.

    "I keep on losing feathers" makes me think of when a bird loses feathers when in distress. It actually took me immediately back to an abusive relationship I was in and when he moved in my bird started to lose feathers and passed away.

    Listen to those layers! I think she did all the layers to Dangerous Things. Remember that’s what she loved about Enya.
    QUOTE ABOUT “A DANGEROUS THING”
    “A Dangerous Thing” leans on the notion of self-awareness within a realm that disguises a cold and abusive relationship as something actually warm and appealing.
    IN AN INTERVIEW AURORA SAID;
    “There's a lot of beauty in this world. And there's a lot of ugly. I was surprised to learn how often the ugly is disguised as beauty. How often poison is disguised as wine. And life disguised as death.And when we learn that what we thought was good for us, is in fact bad for us - even then we tend to go return to it. Because at least it's familiar. And all we ever dream about is home. Seductive, yet destructive. A dangerous thing indeed."
    Aurora and Pomme on Everything Matters
    th-cam.com/video/ObAXM6vD6nU/w-d-xo.html

    One can't choose which people one find attractive. This is determined in childhood by experience. Usually by one parent. It is not for nothing that daughters, for example, choose their partners according to the example of their fathers. Not because they want it that way, but because it's programmed that way. If the father has abused them, there is a high probability that she will look attractive to this type of charakter later. They fall in love with these people, knowing that it is not good, but always hoping that it will get better. That's why it's so hard to get out of these mechanisms. One would oppose everything that has shaped you in childhood. This is the vicious circle that is difficult to break.
