Karen you lady are awesome ... I almost gave up on my dremel 4000, till you mentioned that bloody thermofuse... you saved me a good $240. I can't be thankful enough .. you ROCK! for those who don't have a fuse replacement, you can simply bypass it by soldering a high Amp wire at least 25A across the thermofuse .. this is NOT recommended though as you'd lose the thermal protection, but it'll get you back up immediately
My dremel just stopped working and you're the 2nd video I spotted offering an explanation. The other guy said it's the brushes that need replacing. I like you sharing yoru reasoning which spoek to me. I don't want to spend 100 to buy another so I'll take it apart and try out your suggestion to see if it could be the fuse. Like you said- it would've gone to the trash heap anyway so can't hurt to check
Hi Karen, love your thought process! Unfortunately, I seem to think that I can fix anything, which can sometimes be my undoing, but for the most, with patience and confidence manage to concur enough to try something else if the need arises. Your living proof that if you grab it by the horns, and give it a crack, weather we’re familiar with what’s in need of repair, or just going in by braille, we can fix a lot of things that many people wouldn’t even attempt. Anyway, love the vid….well presented and can tell straight away that your there to help people and not to impress them. From neurosurgeons to tree surgeons, we all need something repaired or prolonged for many different needs….wants, ect:
Thank you! I was really sad, my dremel just overheated, thought it was ready for the bin, found your video and ordered the part for $10 including shipping, not sad anymore, Thank you!
I replaced the brush in my Dremel twice over a few yr period. The third time, I found the brush melted into the area housing it, and I was unable to remove it. My Dremel was slightly smaller than yours. I never did replace the thermal fuse. I invested in a lot of the attachments for that Dremel, so still hanging onto it. I've since gotten a larger similar tool, but someday will go back at the old Dremel for another go at fixing it. Thanks for this video!
Ms. Karen my dremel stop working over the weekend and I looked at the bushes and they looked great since I have only used my tool maybe 4 times since buying it a year ago. Hey Karen, your Vid was a right on spot. Now i know where to start the repair. People be ware of the fact that you cant cut 1mm titanium for prolonged time even with the cool dremel "max" accessories ;o.
Nicely done Karen! You might consider buying a Foredom instead of your next Dremel. Far more torque and Far less noise. They come with a foot pedal to control speed. Great for light or heavy duty cutting and polishing. Tom (Sandman Overhaul)
I have a Foredom that keeps shorting. I am in the process at looking at the windings. Finally found clips that work with magnetic wire. But when it worked it was the bomb diggity!!
I followed these instructions to take apart mine and test the thermal fuse. That wasn't the problem, but the Dremel worked again when I reassembled it, so thanks!
I had no choice because the bolt head that had to be cut off was above the muffler and all the framing was really tight and nothing fit in that space so I used the flexible extension shaft you can get for it and used that until the Dremel burned out - then I went with it by hand with a hacksaw blade in the cheap plastic handle thingy for a few hours until 10pm and then went in to go to bed - and then I started the next day with a small cordless drill Dad bought and that fit in, using the dremel cutoff discs because the 3" cut-offs are too big for the space. Finally. I don't ever want to do that again. But the hitch receiver is off. I'm going to try this and fix the Dremel. Thanks Karen. And also Hi, you remind me of Mrs. C when I was a kid. Great video. I'm so annoyed, I have the same Dremel and model and my brushes tops don't just unscrew or even have a flathead notch. I gotta get one of those fuses too. Thanks very much.

The carbon brush set are both worn down and rounded on the edges in my Dremel 4300. But could that cause the power switch to stop turning the motor on and off? It appears this model doesn't have a Brush Holder Thermal Fuse. It isn't locked up, just stoped running while I cut into an exterior vinyl siding corner with a Metal cutting Dremel wheel. (Thanks for the video.)
If you are making this repair do yourself a favor and buy a replacement brush holder part instead of soldering in a fuse. If you must solder a fuse, use a small vise grip plier as a heat sink to avoid overheating the fuse. Also, buy a 5A fuse instead of a 10A fuse which is much easier to find. The 10A fuse has a larger wire and is more difficult to form and work with to get the connections lined up for assembly.

Thanks. You might help me here. I have Dremel but not exactly like yours and does not have heat protection. Mine is 110 volt and by mistake plugged it into 220 volt and just stopped working with no smell or indication of burning. What do you think has gone wrong and how to fix it. I check all sort of connectivity inside and all okay
I was using my dremel with now problems, turn off, i left it under sunlight and when I wanted to turn it on again is not working anymore. I dont know if sun heat can damage this but I will check it. I plan to replace this original dremel fuse, as I am not in US to get this part, using a 110C or more fuse. Can you help me with the current data of original fuse so that I can buy same stuff? many thanks in advance.
Dremel wanted me to just send them my Dremel after it was smoking hot. After a lot of trying to find out if it was covered under warranty (no), and try to get a replacement price if the unit was destroyed ($54, at this time), I decided it would be better for me to at least open it up and look for myself before sending it in. To note, when the Dremel was smoking I unplugged it and queched it in water. This could have destroyed the unit further but I considered the importance of preventing a fire hazard more important than the machine. Absolutely make sure the unit is unplugged before quelching in water. Also understand that the water will become boiling hot with hazardous steam! Take appropriate precautions to prevent injury. That said, my thermal fuse never broke. After though cleaning and drying, I let it set open in moisture absorbing beads for a couple days (to make certain no moisture was in the electronic parts to short out). I'm glad the unit is functioning again with no need to spend money. I am concerned however that the thermal fuse didn't break in what obviously was over 100°C since the water was boiling. I'll have to reach out and see if I can buy a new thermal fuse just to make sure my unit remains safe in the future.
I'll note that I'm NOT buying Dremel products again. They don't seem to be the high quality product that I once respected and the extremely limited warranty isn't worth much. It comes down to a fact that my dremel was 3-4 years old and at
@@neocommodore I've got one of the older ones of which were still made in the U.S.A.. The newer ones are made in China. In which case, I'm done with Dremel, if I can't get mine going again
Thank you for sharing this Karen. These parts are very difficult to find in the UK. Although I found one seller on ebay, using the reference number you kindly supplied. If I need to buy the fuse to solder in future, would 10amp be compatible?
I’m not really sure exactly. Except that they Conduct electric current between the stationary wires (the stator) and the rotating wires (the rotor). Probably because they brush along the outside of the rotor.

If you are making this repair do yourself a favor and buy a replacement brush holder part instead of soldering in a fuse.

Thank you. Very helpful.
You are amazing ❤
I’m begging,😢 what’s the part number? Please😊
Dremel Genuine OEM Replacement Brush Holder # 2610009854
Hairdryer thermal switches reset now why didn't Dremel design it with one of those old bad boys.
I agree!!
I've subscribed, TY awesome tip.
Thanks for the sub!
Thank You, now i found the problem !
Happy to help
You're amazing !!
You are very kind!!!
Great video thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
I'm impressed
I was just desperate to get it back to working order. I figured I could not have made it any worse.
Thank you for sharing this Karen. These parts are very difficult to find in the UK. Although I found one seller on ebay, using the reference number you kindly supplied. If I need to buy the fuse to solder in future, would 10amp be compatible?
Would you give the link?

Why do they call squares of graphite brushes?
In German, they're called coals
I’m not really sure exactly. Except that they Conduct electric current between the stationary wires (the stator) and the rotating wires (the rotor). Probably because they brush along the outside of the rotor.
Is there a tool that’s good for getting through thick metal in tight places? Im not sure an angle grinder would be able to fit where i need it to.
misselissalk I would suggest looking into attachments for dremels or for the tools you own,
Yeah, cutting through that bolt was definitely an angle grinder job! We all live and learn...
For sure!
My brushes won't give. They seem to be stuck
Great video! I think you nailed the issue I have with my Craftsman. Could you say WHERE you bought the fuse, please?
Here is the part number for the brush holder/thermal fuse.
