      @@TestPrepInsight Thank you for your reply! I have a question. I want to go with Pimsleur but it's a bit pricey with it being an ongoing monthly fee. I saw that Pimsleur has a CD set (from 2005) sold on Amazon. But I'm curious whether I would be losing a lot learning tools from the app that the CD would not have. Have you ever compared the the Pimsleur app to its CD learning sets?

    This was a really good video. The punchline is definitely that these are both great programs and that if you are more of a visual learner Rosetta Stone will probably work better for you and if you are more of an auditory learner then Pimsleur will probably be your better choice. Both Rosetta and Pimsleur are great both founded on very solid language learning principles. It really in the end, depends on what kind of learner you are.

    I'm teaching myself toki pona just because I like the idea of a minimalist and supposedly easy to learn conlang and conlangs/auxlangs/interlangs fascinate me. I'd really like to properly learn both Latin and French, both of which I failed miserably multiple times in high school and uni lol. I have a question about apps like these ones you review. Is it possible to still use them and learn from them if you don't have a microphone for your computer?

    • @TestPrepInsight
      @TestPrepInsight  ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, there is almost always a function that allows you to skip the speaking exercises. But honestly, that is a big part of the learning process

    • @little-wytch
      @little-wytch ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TestPrepInsight Oh yeah, I know how important the speaking part can be. I tried a friend's Rosetta stone back when it was a stand-alone software and had to go thru all the calibraion for it lol. I don't plan to skip the speaking stuff forever, just until I can afford to get a decent microphone that won't shock me any time I try to adjust it lol

    I used Pimsleur Vietnamese in 2002. Back then it was OG cassette tapes. I kept at it until I became a certified Vietnamese medical interpreter in the state of Oregon about six years ago. My accomplishments in Vietnamese speak for themselves, and it all began with Pimsleur. I know Dr. Ngô Như Bình personally and I can vouch that his work with Pimsleur is unmatchable. I tried Rosetta Stone a few times and had a fun laugh. It was cute a BS marketing rip off. You’d be better off learning in a college course than Rosetta Stone if you have access.
