Hand-raising Baby Numbats at Perth Zoo

In 2010, Perth Zoo staff hand-raised four baby Numbats. To assist with recovery efforts for this endangered species, Perth Zoo breeds Numbats for release into wild habitats managed by the Department of Environment and Conservation.

Wikipedia says "Numbats have relatively few vocalisations, but have been reported to hiss, growl, or make a repetitive 'tut' sound when disturbed." So they don't say much apparently.

youtube is blocked from our schools here in western australia. i used to watch movies about rare australian animals all the time with the kids. if the kids didn't know about an animal we could just look it up and instantly find out about it. it was great to encourage children to look after our wildlife. i hate that we are such a nanny state.

Hey, From September to March/April, the keepers do a presentation and feed at the Numbat exhibit at 10:30 am which is the best time to see an active Numbat. During winter, your best chance is in the middle of the day.
