Iorveth was sorely missed during the third instalment. It really was a crying shame that he wasn't in it, because it honestly would have been great to see Iorveth and his Scoia'tael fighting side by side with Vernon Roche and the Blue Stripes against the Wild Hunt during the Battle of Kaer Morhen.
Missed one of the best parts unfortunately. There was this conversation right before you enter Flotsam pretending to have captured Iorveth which went something along the lines of : Geralt: I take back what I said - you're not grandiose, you're mad. Iorveth: My mother claimed likewise.
I'd thumb that comment up more than once if I could. Though I kinda agree with him (especially the rant about 1000 years one human will climb a pile of bones).

I've always seen Iorveth as a man who has been pushed to the edge and left to simmer in his pain. He does what he can for what little of his people he can reach, and knows very well he fights against possible inevitability. And he hates the idea that the extinction/fading of the elves is possibly inevitable, so much so he riots against it in the most violent way possible. His life thus becomes ruled by Us vs. Them; elves vs. all of humanity.
That's what make him different of most Scoia'taels: Most Scoia'taels just want revenge against humans and die while taking as much of them with them as they can. They have lost all hopes for their own futurs and the futur of their specie. Iorveth is different because he fight to actually save his people, even if that mean working alongside the specie he hate the most. Saskia saved him in a way by giving him hope.
It's depressingly funny how Iorveth goes on about how evil the humans are and how they didn't do anything to help the elf women, and in the same breath acknowledging that Dandelion, a human, was the only one who tried to save them...

Yea, Roche doesn't really hold much of a candle to Iorveth. Both are deeply flawed in their own way, but Roche is a simple man who is a patriot first and a friend second. If he perceives you as a threat that just means you are another obstacle to eliminate. You can say the same for Iorveth for sure, but at least you get the sense that there is some level of mutual respect and deeper thoughts there beneath all the cynicism - and that cynicism is rather understandable for someone who has lived to see his entire race fall into ruin and now face extinction.
Agree. But whereas Roche wants to preserve the status quo, Iorveth wants to save the elder races and help Saskia establish a free state in Vergen. Despite all his cynicism, Iorveth is an idealist who wants to create a better world, believing he has no choice but to do awful things to achieve that world. Vernon Roche is only an idealist, but as he puts it clearly in TW3, his only ideal is Temeria, which is a rather short-sighted goal.

In TW2 i chose Iorveth. At least Iorveth wanna stop his own war against humanity. Originally he was meant to play a central role in a subplot involving the plague, but they couldn't get it to work and they were running out of time so they significantly cut down Roche's part, recycled Keira Metz' part into the Fyke Isle quest, recycled Gaunter O'Dimm for Hearts of Stone, and totally cut Iorveth from the game. That's why part of why the third act just doesn't feel quite right, huge chunks have been left on the cutting room floor. It's also why Reason of State is sucha dogshit quest, cause it's partly made of stitched together bits of the plague storyline

Iorveth is not a main character of the series. Maybe for the witcher 2, that is true. Read the books, way more important elves than iorveth. True fans would say dandelion, vesemir, or ciri. In andrezj sapkowskis universe iorveth does not even exist. If we are speaking aboug cannon and non-cannon that is.

Iorveth was already seriously battle wounded in previous conflict so it is safe to assume that he already had sustained this injury prior to lifting up his 'bandana'.
I best this game once a week for three weeks and the iorveth path is a lot more interesting. The only good thing about the Roche path is that you get to be with Ves and you get to see the morbid childishness of Dethmold. Iorveth and the dwarves are much more colorful characters and are worth the extra playthrough. Iorveth is almost the reason I play the game aside from the fact that its my favorite game of all time.
Griffin Wheeler (don't take it the wrong way here) but i really have trouble to even see why people consider Iorveth as a great character, i played until the next chapter of the "kraken thing" and i can't change my point of view on him. I REALLY don't like him. I find Iorveth dumb and immature, he is a walking stereotype of anger and bitterness and despite the fact that this path contains (apparently so, you're not the only one to tell me that) more plot points, my version of the witcher will stick to Roche and his killing of Dethomld. Anyway i will play with this save in the witcher 3 but thanks for your opinion! :)

He's loyal and proud but he also has a sense of justice (he risked his life to save the little girl and killed the king in retribution for the rape of her friend) I would love to debate more but i really don't recal that much so... still i couldn't stand Iorveth, he's fighting for nothing and just increases the hatred toward humans. He can only kill but a real change comes with a change of mentality. He's the typical terrorist who doesn't understand his actions have negative long term consequences well that's my opinion anyway.
darktoto95 Iorveth isn't fighting for nothing,he's fighting for the freedom of his race, which no one will grant them unless they fight. He goes to Vergen because it's one of the few places in the world where humans and nonhumans live together without hate. He's fighting for a better tomorrow for his people, one where elves can roam free, humans wont have to worry about being shot by elven arrows in forests, and where dwarves wont be confined to mines. He's done some terrible things but there isn't really another way for him to free his people. He follows Saskia because she is the only one who can lead the world into a better time. He puts Saskias needs and therefore the needs of the people above all else, He's a good man, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Same can be said for Roche, though he hates elves because they are elves. Iorveth hates humans because they have all but wiped out his race. Neither is really fully justified but Iorveths cause carries more weight in my opinion.
The story of the games is settled after the stories of the books but yes, some of the characters (but not all!) already existed in the books. So Iorveth is mentioned in the book "Baptism of Fire"...Dandelion, Zoltan, Yarpen etc. too. But Letho and Roche instead are only game characters and don't exist in the books.
When you jump off the barge you have two choices - save the elf girls in the burning building or chase Loredo. One of the girls will "reward" you in the next level - not killing Loredo misses a lot of loot and points. Hard choice.
To be honest it seems like Iorveth's path is the best one ! If you don't go on his path there is nothing you can do to save Vergen and Roach's path doesn't really achieve anything special since his temerian unit gets wiped out by Henselt . I don't even see any reason to do anything with him because of this and going with Iorveth makes tactical sense since he knows more about Letho and his people so he's the perfect man for the job. Plus that why should I help Roach ? No matter what you do Temeria will end divided, while if you help Ivoreth you can actually make a difference and save the cool Vergen community
No, King Einon is played by David Thewlis, he same guy who plays Professor Lupin in Harry Potter, Jerry Barker in Black Beauty, Cyrus Crabb in Dinotopia and much more. Iorveth is voiced by Mark Frost who, last year, was starring as the Joker in a live version of Batman. Sounds lame, but he makes a kickass Joker. I don't know if that is still touring or not.

Iorveth's Path is more in line with chasing Triss, though - that's probably reason enough for Geralt to side with him. Then it also depends how sympathetic you are with the Scoia'Tael. Iorveth's up against a wall - those fighting him aren't afraid of killing women and children, and he isn't afraid of responding in kind. It's very much an ends justifies the means scenario. And unlike Roche, that end is an ideal - the Free Vergen ideal, which applies to humans and non-humans alike.

Lapinkulta52 I'm almost 3 years late but.... It was confirmed long ago that this Iorveth is not the one mentioned in the novels. Just saying. In fact he was higlhy based on the character Isengrim, "Iron wolf".

Its a damm shame Iorveth was cut from TW3, he is a great character and deserved better. I would rather have less random monster contract (which were repetitive) and Iorveth instead
Iorveth was already seriously battle wounded in previous conflict so it is safe to assume that he already had sustained this injury prior to lifting up his 'bandana'.

I best this game once a week for three weeks and the iorveth path is a lot more interesting. The only good thing about the Roche path is that you get to be with Ves and you get to see the morbid childishness of Dethmold. Iorveth and the dwarves are much more colorful characters and are worth the extra playthrough. Iorveth is almost the reason I play the game aside from the fact that its my favorite game of all time.
Griffin Wheeler (don't take it the wrong way here) but i really have trouble to even see why people consider Iorveth as a great character, i played until the next chapter of the "kraken thing" and i can't change my point of view on him. I REALLY don't like him.
I find Iorveth dumb and immature, he is a walking stereotype of anger and bitterness and despite the fact that this path contains (apparently so, you're not the only one to tell me that) more plot points, my version of the witcher will stick to Roche and his killing of Dethomld.
Anyway i will play with this save in the witcher 3 but thanks for your opinion! :)
darktoto95 As weird as it is, one of the reasons i like him so much is his voice, i think its really awesome. Idk, he has some cool/funny moments whereas Roche is just a dick pretty much all the time, he's a man I respect for his loyalty and sense of duty, but he's still a dick :P

He's not a dick on my opinion, not the slightest. He's loyal and proud but he also has a sense of justice (he risked his life to save the little girl and killed the king in retribution for the rape of her friend)
I would love to debate more but i really don't recal that much so... still i couldn't stand Iorveth, he's fighting for nothing and just increases the hatred toward humans. He can only kill but a real change comes with a change of mentality. He's the typical terrorist who doesn't understand his actions have negative long term consequences

darktoto95 Iorveth isn't fighting for nothing,he's fighting for the freedom of his race, which no one will grant them unless they fight. He goes to Vergen because it's one of the few places in the world where humans and nonhumans live together without hate. He's fighting for a better tomorrow for his people, one where elves can roam free, humans wont have to worry about being shot by elven arrows in forests, and where dwarves wont be confined to mines. He's done some terrible things but there isn't really another way for him to free his people. He follows Saskia because she is the only one who can lead the world into a better time. He puts Saskias needs and therefore the needs of the people above all else, He's a good man, but desperate times call for desperate measures. Same can be said for Roche, though he hates elves because they are elves. Iorveth hates humans because they have all but wiped out his race. Neither is really fully justified but Iorveths cause carries more weight in my opinion.

Iorveth's path...you can talk to him in Vergen and there he is without eyepatch.
I think if they ever make a movie Cillian Murphy would be a top contender for the role.
The story of the games is settled after the stories of the books but yes, some of the characters (but not all!) already existed in the books. So Iorveth is mentioned in the book "Baptism of Fire"...Dandelion, Zoltan, Yarpen etc. too. But Letho and Roche instead are only game characters and don't exist in the books.
Iorveth is a very strong 'character'.

When you jump off the barge you have two choices - save the elf girls in the burning building or chase Loredo. One of the girls will "reward" you in the next level - not killing Loredo misses a lot of loot and points. Hard choice.

If you don't go on his path there is nothing you can do to save Vergen and Roach's path doesn't really achieve anything special since his temerian unit gets wiped out by Henselt .
I don't even see any reason to do anything with him because of this and going with Iorveth makes tactical sense since he knows more about Letho and his people so he's the perfect man for the job.
Plus that why should I help Roach ? No matter what you do Temeria will end divided, while if you help Ivoreth you can actually make a difference and save the cool Vergen community

Iorveth is voiced by Mark Frost who, last year, was starring as the Joker in a live version of Batman. Sounds lame, but he makes a kickass Joker. I don't know if that is still touring or not.

the only reason I bought wild hunt was in hope of seeing this glorious elf again. severely disappointed, didn't care for the rest of the game. I don't think I even finished it :(
+Charlotte Clarke I read he was supposed to have a larger part and be in quite a few of the quests but he was cut out. Sucks, because I've never played Witcher 1 or 2 but his character seems interesting.

Iorveth's Path is more in line with chasing Triss, though - that's probably reason enough for Geralt to side with him.
Then it also depends how sympathetic you are with the Scoia'Tael. Iorveth's up against a wall - those fighting him aren't afraid of killing women and children, and he isn't afraid of responding in kind. It's very much an ends justifies the means scenario.
And unlike Roche, that end is an ideal - the Free Vergen ideal, which applies to humans and non-humans alike.
