One word: winner
Hey!!! I was born on the same day, same year! Happy Birthday come October 2nd! 1959 was a good year!
My mom is a dead head and I grew up with this song. I couldn't stand it when I was a kid and now 25 years later here I am
Smoke toke toke
I saw the Dead play in Boulder, Colorado in the football stadium. I was hitchhiking with my good buddy Bill McKee and we just happened to grab some tickets to the Dead show. It was 1972 and we saw Mountain Woman and Pig Pen on drums and of course Jerry and the entire gang. They were passing out boxes of pot to the ground on the stadium floor. Also, every Dead show I saw there was always a double rainbow and naturally I turned my shoulder and you got it there was a double rainbow out in the Colorado sky. Man, it was really cool. And, it was all true.
We caught the 3 dead and company shows in Boulder this year. Double rainbow one of the nights! Wish I could've seen them 30 yrs ago. Cheers my friend 🎉
Passin out boxes of pot? Hopefully they didn’t have nefarious motives in mind, inducing the widespread ingestion of unknown and possibly harmful additional chemicals like pesticides etc
A local Boulderite here. Driving that 🚂
People look at me strange for playing this with a grin on my face... I just roll my eyes and think boy they really missed the VWbus lol
Back then was REAL COCAINE that melts in your pocket! There's nothing but garbage out there nowdays and I hear people say "This stuff is pure" no, it's pure crap. It's not cocaine.
Used To sing that back in the '70's when I was skydiving out in Arizona.
Casey Jones you better pull that chute...
Jerry's bro! Here's one driving that train th-cam.com/video/CtC31t5hmI0/w-d-xo.html
Skydiving wasn't invented till 2011 😑😑😑😑😑😑😑🤣🤣
@@russelllashway1763 where on god’s green earth did you get that number from? the first high-altitude parachute jump was in 1797. and what’s the 82nd airborne in world war 2?
were you high on cocaine?
My parents are both huge Deadheads. They named me after Brent Midland. Thought it was boring old people music when I was younger, but as an adult I’ve gained an appreciation for it. It’d be weird if I didn’t like the music that my namesake was involved in.
That Intro snort always gets me
Same here!
Man this never makes me feel old on a train
JoJo refrence
This was my fav dead song as a little kid.. I had a portable tape player and would play and rewind and play again and over and over again.. hah, yea, u couldn't tell I'd be a cokehead or anything.. ;)
aahahahahaaa
! Nice!!
Glad i can still fully enjoy listening to Grateful Dead living a healthy life. Feels and sounds even better now 🖖
yea but its not as fun is it lol
That intro lick is an amazing work of art. Simply stunning
My dad named me after this song and now we found out he’s going to pass away. This song is special to me now.
My Dad listened to this with me once many years ago ( he was country music fan) but I found out from him the origin is an old program entitles case jones starring Allen hale aka the skipper.
Sorry for your loss
Man I miss hearing this on the radio. I used to wait for 96.5 WHTQ in Orlando to play this back in the days as a kid. LOL I love this classic rock music even though all of it pre-dates me by 20 years or so.
Lol, me too-WHTQ
Pre-dates me by 50 or so years and I still love it. The Dead is timeless.
Good jams is good jams.
I understand. Thought I was burnt out on the classics I heard growing up. 96 rock in Atlanta. Rock 103.5 in Knoxville..... On and on. Now I miss it. Didn't realize the extent i knew the lyrics to most of them lol.
My favorite Grateful Dead song!
My stepdad used to play this song all the time when I was a kid. I never knew it was the Grateful Dead until a few years ago, when I was tripping and my dad suggested Workingman's Dead.
@Brad1980 shut up brad u wanna do sum shrooms with me we’re u live?
@Brad1980 drugs are awesome though
@Brad1980 not always. Depends on the drugs, the frequency, and the individual.
Omg same
@Brad1980 same with working to much , doing anything to much .
It’s in the way that you use em . 😁🥂💨🤙
This song got stuck in my head in 1970 and stuck around up there all summer!! :)
Never gets old!!!
Well......
No. But we definitely do 👨🏻🦳
@@foff1356 Well I didn’t eat yet 🤪
And you know that notion...
@@foff1356 Jerry's bro! Here's one driving that train th-cam.com/video/CtC31t5hmI0/w-d-xo.html
I took my drivers license test with the teacher in my passenger seat and this song was playing. Casey Jones high on Coka’Cola.
As soon as she and me got in the car this song came on and I said to her
“ let’s buckle up. “ and we proceeded to put on our seatbelts and by me saying that I scored “ Brownie Points. “
"Switchman is sleeping
Train hundred and two
Is on the wrong track and headed for you."
Coke a cola was the monster of of the time
Driving that train, high on cocaine,
Casey Jones you better watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind
This old engine makes it on time
Leaves Central Station 'bout a quarter to nine
Hits River Junction at seventeen two
At a quarter to ten you know it's travelin' again
Driving that train, high on cocaine
Casey Jones you better, watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind
Trouble ahead, Lady in red
Take my advice you'd be better off dead
Switchman's sleeping, train hundred and two is
On the wrong track and headed for you
Driving that train, high on cocaine
Casey Jones you better watch your speed
Trouble ahead trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind
Drive your train, whoo
Trouble with you is the trouble with me
Got two good eyes but you still don't see
Come round the bend, you know it's the end
The fireman screams and the engine just gleams
Driving that train, high on cocaine
Casey Jones you better, watch your speed
Trouble ahead, trouble behind
And you know that notion just crossed my mind
Congrats dude
Yes, those are the lyrics.
I always loved this song when it came on 94.5 as a kid and had no idea that this was the Grateful Dead because I just associated them with their long and spacey live versions of songs that I, as a kid, did not have the attention span for. I think it's time to get into the Dead, y'all.
Hearing this makes me feel old.
This album is awesome. I am listening to it on my phone. I need this record though it sounds better on vinyl.
Good vinyl rules!
Best vocal from Jerry here. Great performance and excellent mix.
Thanks for uploading and God bless you and all ✌️♥️
Amen
Happy birthday Jerry! Thank you ❤️
Monday July 7, 1980. First time I heard this. Boardwalk Ocean City, NJ. Made a pact with another kid we attacked everyone else on bumper cars except each other.
When im driving around this song pops into my head sometimes 🤣✌
My favorite Dead song and probably a lot of people's, methinks.
I always liked this song
I just had a spam caller who said his name was Casey Jones. I started asking him about the cocaine & the accident. He finally just said he'd put me on the "Do Not Call" list.

This song got stuck in my head and now it’s one of my favorites!!
After listening/living to/and loving
The Dead 💀 🧢⚡️🎯💀 for years and years now, my favorite studio album from them is none other than...
Workingman’s Dead 🔨🌹💀⚡️🤙
Casey Jones was not high on cocaine on the night of the 30th of April 1900. He was however obsessed with being on time to a dangerous degree - at the time of the collision with the stalled freight train, he had made up for most of his starting delay of 75 minutes - he died only 2 minutes behind schedule.
Driving that train 😢
I was watching part 5 of JJBA and when I heard the stand name was Grateful Dead I was full of joy. Or I was high on Cocaine
Drug bad
You a sigma kappa?
The fun part of this is Prosciutto attacks Bucciarati Gang in a train
Might just be Jerry’s best vocal. It’s great, even by non-Grateful Dead standards.
Great 🎵
TO: Dianne Couch at voc rehab; James Tarry; Cliff Carpenter, all from Dick Cowl
"Hostin' that pod / Aukerman nod / Bill Walton, you'd better host that pod"
Peace Love and Jerry Garcia
I had a dog I named Casey because at the time I absolutely loved this song
Definitly the best from Grateful Dead
Awesome 🚂🚓🐎
why does this song get stuck in my head every time I see Don Jr. on tv?
This song trying to make me very old... why am I getting very old????
Man alive! I feel your pain RoyalBlood1996! How in the shit can I be 49 years old, for Christ's sake?!?!
Fantastic song 😎
Thanks!
Got busted but pain was alleviated by Jane and Anne dancing to this when the Drug Squad switched on the car stereo.
Took me years to get into the album as I somehow figured this was the only good track
Whenever see the name Casey Jones, I can't help but think of the Ninja Turtles character and that somehow makes this song a little better
Casey Jones was actually a conductor of the train. I have been to his grave.
I believe Johnny Cash wrote and sang a song called Casey Jones. The actual train conductor is what the Man in Black was singing about. 😊❤
This album was great
Awesome😊
Oh yeah! Forever grovidelic 😎
Turn 27 next month... rest easy pigpen.
There's always a parallel track. And I am not in charge of the train that we all ride upon. I am not the engineer. If you be a deer in the headlights there or even a herd of elk, there's really nothing that will save you except yourselves and having some CONSCIOUS AWARENESS. Do you know the first thing God said to me- a couple years before it started talking to me? It said "WAKE UP!!" really loudly to me- louder than I've ever heard it talk since during a mushroom trip where I was half in and half out of consciousness, but still high. I told my snowboarding friends about it and they all looked at me sadly and moved away from me physically like I'd told them that I was a leper.
The dead is alive. Thanks John Mayer for saving the band.
I never hear anyone reference this anymore. People just assume I was named after a Ninja Turtles character 😅
just crossed my mind...
Has everybody put together that the kids PBS program Thomas Train show is all based on this song?
George Carlin was the perfect character to play the roll of Casey Jones.
How many parents sit around and have cookies and milk with the kids and watch the show that is a spin off of a twacked out on cocaine train conductor riding around on a train! Thats friggin Crazy.
i always listen to thus while playing call of duty modern warfare
God Bless Chuck Suter
That boy orchestrated could be my child
Yet WOW
He can be your child

My stepdad used to play this song all the time when I was a kid. I never knew it was the Grateful Dead until a few years ago, when I was tripping and my dad suggested Workingman's Dead.
Every time I watch the 1980s version of The Twilight Zone (which the Dead did the theme song for) I kind of half-expect to hear this song instead of the actual theme song. 🤣
Ya my stepdad played this BB king Fleetwoodmac it goes on and on
Great Song
You wouldn’t believe the station I bared while listening to this song, trouble ahead but in a good way ya know
Played in a cover band in the 90's . This was a staple tune, Down in Hollywood by Ry Cooter. check it out.
A lesson to be learned here.
My fave album by them
I have an uncle name Casey Jones and I came across this song and had to listen to it lol it’s kinda funny
Can't believe 'Luci missed this, Happy late 26th birthday to my late brother, you will be missed Dakota.
Yep song music is life of what I breed
Shit I forgot I need to report the program I found Jetson
Make Jerry Garcia emoji only Dead heads would know it's meaning
They be throwing shade on my guy Casey Jones bro was just trying to make up for lost time
Reminds me of being stoned on some opiates, sweating bullets walking down Hollywood Blvd at 2am with 3000$ cash stuffed in my cowboy boot, trying to act natural.
Suspicious drumming... 😁
This song is even greater now that I work on a railroad

Every time a train passed when I was a little boy I thought they were doing Cocaine inside driving the thing hahaha

PKD’s VALIS brought me here.
I used 2 live near Vaughan, Ms years ago when i was farming and here is where Casey had his fatal crash. There is a small museum there that tells the story about this train wreck. Not a whole lot to see but a little interesting. I like "The Dead" but not a real big fan.
my mom played this song in the car all the time
"In case you Jones you better watch your speed "
This is hard to listen to when its your name.
amazing
I just found out my dad named me after this song😅
In related news, Uncle Phil is the voice of Shredder in the original cartoon.
I’m really not much of a Dead fan but this & one other song are favorites of mine. 🚊
The most buzzed comment section I’ve ever commented upon.
When your trying to eat a banana but it spoiles while your eating it.
