Wonderful video. My two favourite groups of Mudlarks together. You had some really interesting finds. There was an obviously genuine rapport between the four of you. It was heartwarming to see your son receiving his gift with such joy, grace and gratitude. He is a credit to you. There seem to be whole worlds inside those sea glass multis.

I felt quite sad making the film! Oh what I would not give to be even walking a long a beach let alone searching for things! Oscar loved his boot pin. I remember from one other Northern Mudlarks videos, they had gone to the mines to pick up fluorite gems that glow. I wonder if the toned pieces you are picking up may be sea polished fluorite stones. Or Tourmaline stones. Since both come in a rainbow of colors. Glass will have a satin finish after tossing in the ocean. Gemstones usually will polish. Not to be morbid, but possibly some small child either lost their shoe, as kids often do, or was a victim of a sinking back in the day. That looks like a hobnail shoe heel. I have always enjoyed the grace and kindness of the British people be they from Whales, Ireland, or Britton. All are so giving and open. Feels like home to me.

From New Hampshire in the States...you've inspired me to pull my metal detector out of the barn and have another go at my front yard. I found nothing valuable but did find 3 US pennies, 1 Canadian and a US dime. Also learned that one of the previous owners of my home apparently used a lot of gold-colored aluminium foil!
I spent the first minute of this video worried that you'd have to _expecto patronum_ the dementors I was convinced were about to appear in that underpass! ☺️

It popped into my head as you walked down to the beach, so it probably belongs to you: COMBING Under a lowering sky we tripped and stumbled, Wind - blown and spray- spackled, eyes fixed Upon the ground lest we shatter The least speck of bright history in the storm- wrought stones Under our clumsy feet. In the low grey light jewels shine dully Against the sand, their edges blunted and pinned awry In weed and the sea’s leavings But our eyes, sharp as gulls, snatch at their light With eager fingers. Cries of high triumph sweep out to sea To mingle with the gull’s voices, foam - thin and sparkling Against the low swell, As the sea draws back to cast her bright fairings On the shore.
