I see Ports of Call as being an absolutely vital addition to Starfinder's universe. Up until now, Paizo has only talked about things like the outer borders of the Veskarium or Azlanti Star Empire as big nebulous things, similar to how the original Star Trek series mostly just used Klingons and Romulans as a backdrop and occasional enemy to face. It wasn't until partway through The Next Generation, and then later during Deep Space 9, that Star Trek really hammered out a few key pieces of intergalactic geography, so that the resulting stories could have a lasting, tangible geopolitical consequence. There will always be more strange new worlds out in the vastness of space between the stars for explorers. But for those who wanted a story like in Babylon 5 or Deep Space 9, there hasn't been the kind of support for an in-depth campaign setting from Paizo. Ports of Call adds both content and mechanics (via Drift Lanes) for players to have a more tangible long-lasting Starfinder game.
I’d love to see more options across the board for biotech stuff, not just augmentations. I’m talking vehicle/starship/mech options that are organic. Flesh out the Xenowardens, or the Raxilites, maybe give me a theme for bioengineering, or an archetype or something.

On ther 'Star Map": Considering the nature of FTL in Starfinder, is such a thing necessary? In games like 'Traveller', for instance, you needed star maps to figure out how many 'parsecs' of distance separated worlds, as starships were rated in how many parsecs they could travel in a single 'jump, and some areas were simply uncrossable 'rifts' due to no planets within maximum jump distance. In Starfinder, you only have Near Space and The Vast, so all that is needed is a list of planets in Near Space, and another of planets in The Vast. Will be interesting to see what they come up with, though. Although they introduced some 'cargo' rules in one of the APs, I would like to see what they do with this as well. To again bring up a 'Traveller' comparison, back in the days before I found groups to play in, their Trade system was a good way to do solo play (buying a ship and making money to pay it off......not as much fun with my 'real' starship that I just had to put a new 'Hyuperdrive Transmission' in 😅)
You omitted one of the key reasons why people are pissed about AI art: every single mainstream AI art application is based off images that were used without the artist's consent. All with the explicit aim to completely replace the human artists they stole from. This is different from something like making memes using pictures, gifs, or video clips from movies, because memes do not act as a replacement for the original source material.
Except it’s not learning, it’s copying. I know this seems like splitting hairs but we’re not talking about an entity taking inspiration, but rather an algorithm that is utilising works in a way that crosses into plagiarism. This wouldn’t be as much of an issues if a) artists were compensated and sourced, or b) we scrap all copyright law so anybody can use anything in any capacity. At the moment it’s one law for regular people, another for cooperations, and digital generator algorithms are firmly in the latter category We should probably stop using the term AI too, it’s misleading and doesn’t apply here. At this point these are still just algorithms that could generously be called an SI

I just discovered Pathfinder like 6 months ago and I thought starfinder. No I'm not going to worry about that. But now my interest is piqued. So I'm looking into it more
Accessibility is not a real argument for AI art. As you yourself pointed out, anyone can go online and look at drawings, paintings, sculptures, or photographs for inspiration these days. You can use pencil and scratch paper, or MS Paint, or any other 100% open and free medium/resource out there to learn how to express yourself through art. What it takes is time. That's all it takes. Anyone, regardless of their physical ability, can invest the time it takes to practice. It doesn't take an expensive instrument, an exclusive geographical location, or special physical ability or talent to be able to do it. AI art is not about making art more accessible.
I wish my group would play starfinder, or even Pathfinder. I prefer prefer pathfinder over 5e and I'd love to see what they have done with a space ttrpg. But everyone at the table is new accept the dm and I. Baby steps i guess
Good take on AI art. I agree completely. I went to an art college for a couple years (fine art) and I'm very much into AI at the same time. Personally, I get a lot of satisfaction from AI art, more than I get from traditional art. I'm sacrificing a little bit less control, for better quality and the ability to create much more. That being said, AI art takes A LOT of time. It's not simple like some people think. And frankly, I think traditional artist could use it to augment their own art to great affect. It is also limiting when doing it from scratch to really creating an emotional composition. However, I'm not sure if this is due to the fact that creating good compositions is hard (especially for laymen) or if it's a true limitation of the tool ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
I don't like AI art and don't care for AI text. Am I against its existence? No. People want to make personal art with it great, but if they try to sell it I feel that is theft.
@@noid1978 how could you say that?! big language models were trained on text without permission of the author, and so they could replicate the author's writing style! Of course it's stealing.
Well independent creators still need a license if they want to publish/sell and Paulo can revoke said license if there is a provision against AI art that is not adhered to
hands. AI still cant figure out hands. AI art looks okay at a glance but start looking at finer details and it just looks wrong. hands are the most glaring and always have inconsistent numbers of fingers and finger placement, also sometimes theres extra limbs. it also cant really do specifics, like specific ornaments or character design features.
Don't spread misinformation. The signature was seen on AI art, not the actual signature but a blurred misconstrued version. The reason for the comment is to show that your response could incite that the machine is plagiarizing the art. What's happening is the AI was fed the images is replicating it. The signature is usually a distorted part seen rarely. It is fuel that their works were entered into the AI, lots artists disagree that they didn't consent, but they did put it online for people to see. People recreate art all the time. Art class 101 is paint the classics yourself. The AI is just doing what you tell it to.
there are 0 pros for ai art, at least not for the traditional artist point of view. unfortunately its here and it will replace artist in the next 5 to 10 years. peeps might get mad at that but no big corp is going to pay a whole team of artists when they can just pay 1, 2 or 3 prompters to do the work of multiple teams. sucks but people and companies are going to use it, and its demand is just going to soar.
Art is absolutely going to change but how I dont know. Im doubtful any machine came capture the essence of "Soul" in art and for those looking for that kind of style or art a human as far as i know will always have that. but of course this will only be able to be done by a smaller number of artists.
But you can self publish, there are license requirements for being starfinder compatible. There is also the infinite programs for Pathfinder and Starfinder
