    I like this story, he fights progressively more difficult enemies then at the end you find out that they were just trying to protect their youngest brother.
    I'm an eldest sibling myself so I can definitely relate to that.

      Yes, it certainly is unique in arthurian legend for the way that it subverts expectations. The story can be interpreted multiple ways, and has different endings depending on the source, but this one i believe is most true to Gareth's character.

    Sir Gareth is honestly one of my favorite Knights of the Round Table. I mean, look at him! The guy's a goddamn sweetheart, which is why I've always wondered why he never found the Grail like Galahad, Percival, and Bors did.

      He does seem to be a really great guy, as well as being a great knight. No major faults, except perhaps being a touch too naive in some stories.

    Wow. This dude gets zero breaks from anyone and yet bests them all, while issuing ZERO complaints.
    And THEN he asks to marry the girl that antagonized him for the entire quest (which he overcame by himself), only to have to prove himself FOR ANOTHER YEAR.

    Sir Gareth was a Chad

      That is an accurate assessment. I could have made the video a lot shorter.

    Excellent video today. I am a big fan of the longer form narrative in today's video. It was very entertaining.

    Funny. Half the people you've talked about in this series so far are people I have literally never heard of before. There is way more to king arthur than I had ever thought.

      Oh yeah, Arthurian legend is huge, and encompases hundreds of interesting people, places, and events. Much bigger than most movies and tv shows would dare to go.

    Apparently the name Gareth means "gentle" - how fitting! :)

    • @spencermanning9994

      Yeah, that's one of the reasons why Gareth is one of my favorite Knights of the Round Table. Compared to his brothers (even Gawain), he's a sweetheart.
      Even the nickname that Sir Kay gave to him actually sounds more like a compliment than an insult.

    I had always heard/read that Gareth married lady lionesses and that gaheris married Lynette, but I think I agree with you that this way makes more sense.

    • @ParryThis
      @ParryThis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, there is variation here, and i think it mainly comes from the fact that both Gaheris, and Gareth are likely based on the same welsh character, so their stories are often interchangable.

    Hello sir, I have a question:
    Is there a source in which Gareth get the surname of "wolf" ? I remember finding one account of Arthur calling him that after a tournament, but the source was dubious and the only one I could find. Do you know anything?
    Thanks in advance for your answer.

    • @ParryThis
      @ParryThis  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I do not know of any source where Sir Gareth has the Surname Wolf. Its entirely possible that in one of the many obscure games made including bits and pieces of Arthurian Legend, something like that was added, but i am not personally aware of any.

    It's King Lot of Orkney and his QUEEN MORGAUSE (Said like Mor GOES) it would rhyme with words like Morose, Moors, Shores, etc... Morgause was a sister Of both Vivian and Igrainne Whom all the sisters were raised on the Isle of Avalon.

    The story I read has Gareth kill the Black Knight and steals his armour and Sir Ironside just being a really strong knight and not a kid.

      Yeah, that story has a slightly off story. It was the first one I read though. Sir Gareth is still a Chad nontheoess
