- Happy 5th birthday to mama Tasa!
Today, it's mama Tasa's turn to be in the spotlight.
Together with lioness Kira, Tasa joined Nestor in October 2020. They came from different zoos in Czechoslovakia.
Nestor was interested first in Kira, but when Tasa came into heat, his interest shifted to her. And with success!
In June 2021, triplets Whisker, Waka and Winta were born. The zookeepers made animals in papier maché filled with pieces of meat to celebrate their 1st birthday.
In August 2022, again triplets were born. Xesar, Xabi and Xira. For their 1st birthday, cardboard tubes were filled with fur from other animals and with spices.
Tasa still has good hunting instincts... if she gets the chance to 'hunt'. 😉
All the cubs adore their caring mama! They all got along very well and were a happy lion family. Favourites to many visitors!
In May 2023, Waka and Winta have moved to Whipsnade zoo in England and have accepted lion Malik as their mate.
Nestor moved to Bellewaerde Park, but the meeting with Maya went all wrong and she was killed by him.

I always go see the lions when l visit Zoo Antwerpen. They are fun to watch, particularly when the cubs were still younger. Now it's only Tasa, Whisker, Xesar, Xabi, and Xira that are left. Sadly, this arrangement means no more cubs anytime soon at this Zoo.
Sooo cute! Happy birthday! I love how the gifts are not just treats, but also provide play and enrichment.
I myself had fun watching the former videos again to pick out some scenes with Tasa. This was uploaded as a reel on Instagram as well. That's why it's only a short one. I had saved the photos at the beginning and at the end for this occasion.
Indeed, the zookeepers do their best to come up with a variety of enrichment items. It keeps the lions busy and that's what it's all about.

The zookeepers did a good job, indeed.
As you might remember, they made a zebra and an antilope as well. The giraffe was the last one to be thrown down. Mama Tasa didn't quite know how to do that, but one of the cubs did! 😄👍

Did the bird survive?
Oh yes! It was swimming in the water or up on the rocks in front of the enclosure and the lions couldn't reach it. It flew a few times from one side to the other. That's why Tasa and some of the other lions followed it, trying to catch it.
I got lucky l could record it all that time.
