Stefan had every right to punch Tyler, Tyler CHOSE revenge over his relationship with Caroline. He broke her heart for selfish reasons. Yes, Tyler had every right to hate Klaus but he should've been the better man and if he loved Caroline he wouldn't have left her. What Caroline does is none of his business and the fact that he made her feel guilty for who she slept with AFTER he left her is a no no. Stefan is her best friend and he was with her during that heartbreak so his anger is Justified.
