In the user manual it says that the battery is a Mercury 1.3volt, such as the Mallory 625. I don't know about the rest of the world, but in the UK mercury batteries are illegal. If that's the case in your country, you'll have to buy either: a Silver-oxide 1.5volt (probably with "625" in the name such as S625PX), an Alkaline battery (such as PX625A) or a Zinc-air 1.35volt battery such as an MRB625. The silver-oxide keeps almost all of its power until it fails, so the meter readings should be consistent. The Alkaline loses power over time so the readings will lose accuracy over time. These two do have a higher power-rating than the original mercury (1.5volt compared to 1.35volt) so you may have to change the film speed you set on the camera's meter to to compensate, though this may need some experimenting. You don't need to do that if you use zinc-air batteries (such as those made by Weincell) but they don't last very long. In fact I've tried them twice - in one camera the battery lasted for less than half a film length, and in the other (a yashica mat 124G) the bat didn't really work after a couple of minutes. The light meter in the camera is the little round thing just above the lens, it has a Cds (Cadmium-Sulphide) meter cell.
