Hey, here is a video by one of my favorite TH-camrs, Kari Northey which discusses the hows and why's of the casket pan & covering.

Steve Jarrett just watched it. Very interesting. Makes me turned off by mausoleum burial.
Did they put Doris’s casket in the bag at the funeral home or there at the mausoleum?

    • @stevejarrettnc

Humor Tangelo At the mausoleum. They expected the family to leave after the minister left. SURPRISE!
We had two family members funerals an hour apart in two different states, so no way that anyone could do both. I did this for the folks that couldn't be there.

I want to first offer my sincere condolences to you regarding your Father. Also I want to let you know as well that you will see your Father again. Your Father is still alive, but he’s not in his earthly body. The moment that we pass away our spirits leave these earthly bodies that have housed us but our spirit remains and we’re still alive. I hope that the following scripture can be of comfort to you as well as everyone who has commented in this thread who have lost their Fathers, Mothers, Husbands and etc. God bless you Russell as well as everyone else on this thread and page who have lost a loved one!
      1 Corinthians 15:35-58
      New International Version
      The Resurrection Body
35 But someone will ask, “How are the dead raised? With what kind of body will they come?” 36 How foolish! What you sow does not come to life unless it dies. 37 When you sow, you do not plant the body that will be, but just a seed, perhaps of wheat or of something else. 38 But God gives it a body as he has determined, and to each kind of seed he gives its own body. 39 Not all flesh is the same: People have one kind of flesh, animals have another, birds another and fish another. 40 There are also heavenly bodies and there are earthly bodies; but the splendor of the heavenly bodies is one kind, and the splendor of the earthly bodies is another. 41 The sun has one kind of splendor, the moon another and the stars another; and star differs from star in splendor.
42 So will it be with the resurrection of the dead. The body that is sown is perishable, it is raised imperishable; 43 it is sown in dishonor, it is raised in glory; it is sown in weakness, it is raised in power; 44 it is sown a natural body, it is raised a spiritual body.
If there is a natural body, there is also a spiritual body. 45 So it is written: “The first man Adam became a living being”[a]; the last Adam, a life-giving spirit. 46 The spiritual did not come first, but the natural, and after that the spiritual. 47 The first man was of the dust of the earth; the second man is of heaven. 48 As was the earthly man, so are those who are of the earth; and as is the heavenly man, so also are those who are of heaven. 49 And just as we have borne the image of the earthly man, so shall we[b] bear the image of the heavenly man.
50 I declare to you, brothers and sisters, that flesh and blood cannot inherit the kingdom of God, nor does the perishable inherit the imperishable. 51 Listen, I tell you a mystery: We will not all sleep, but we will all be changed- 52 in a flash, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet. For the trumpet will sound, the dead will be raised imperishable, and we will be changed. 53 For the perishable must clothe itself with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality. 54 When the perishable has been clothed with the imperishable, and the mortal with immortality, then the saying that is written will come true: “Death has been swallowed up in victory.”[c]
55 “Where, O death, is your victory?
Where, O death, is your sting?”[d]
56 The sting of death is sin, and the power of sin is the law. 57 But thanks be to God! He gives us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ.
58 Therefore, my dear brothers and sisters, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.

I am just seeing this for the first time. I’ve always wondered how this kind of burial was done. When my Mamaw passed in 2014, we had her ashes interred on top of my Great Grandfathers grave. We had a private family service for that. N the workers were very respectful. They took their time, they didn’t speak, they stood their in the winter cold very patiently until we were done praying. They never rushed us. These guys truely do the Lords work. Lastly, I want to extend my condolences to you and your entire family. It’s hard losing the matriarch of your family. But she is walking hand in hand with Jesus down those streets of gold in heaven. Singing his praises with all of the angels!

I am so glad we had our 32 yr old daughter who took her life March 25th, 2020 cremated. Her actual physical self currently resides in 4 states, as a huge traveler she would be please. NJ, PA, DC, FL. I love we all picked out urns that fit her style and her 3 older siblings got the exact ones. Her husband has her in one of her favorite chests she collected. I feel at peace she is not in a coffin. And yes, 3 days after her death we did get to view her at the funeral home, and I kissed her.

Don't ever tap those fronts as they can fall off. A bracket known as an Eickhoff bracket keeps it in place and if the bond weakens, the bracket can detach easily from the marble front and BAM it falls off.

I am an elderly man in the final years of my life and when I think about this kind of burial, it doesn't make sense to me. Why go to all of that expense when a simple cremation would serve the purpose? If you think about it, in 50 years or less I guarantee nobody will visit their grave or mourn them. With the decay of the US morality, grave yards will become abandoned and not taken care of.

Burn me up and toss my ashes into the sea....
I will say though, it is nice to have a marker that memorializes you though. I like that I can visit the final resting spot of my ancestors and see their headstones. But the thing that is most important that remains their legacy are the generations who come after them. To those whose family lines have disappeared, that marker may be all that is left.

@@MrsKimchula Good luck with that. It is a popular place and they require a permit to do it. You're going to have someone with obviously to a location like that which is important on the hike itself but also for the emotional support, never know what is going to bubble up inside.
Hopefully this COVID-19 stuff ends sooner than later so you can get up there.

My condolences on your loss. My parents, grandmother, aunt, uncle and cousins were buried in a mausoleum. I have never seen a cloth covering on any of their caskets. This one actually looked quite cozy and warm (Mausoleums can be so cold!). Our mausoleum never let us stay for the closing of the crypt. Watching this video gave me a little bit of closure. Thank you.

My 4 year old (almost 5) grandson, Oliver, is obsessed with all things cemetery but especially is curious about mausoleums. We visit cemeteries at least once a week where he enjoys walking and often cleaning up unkept graves by sweeping or replacing the flowers into the urns.

Although I was absolutely broken-hearted and grieving hard, watching the process of her being laid to rest was very interesting.

It's a metal vault that is sealed just like the ones in the ground. The wall is sealed back over it. It's just not in big acreage of cemetery where dirt is dumped on top of you that is increasing disappearing as cities grow. You can't put another body in a grave with someone else already buried. This is why Mausoleum are increasing popularity especially in very large cities like New York City where there is no lands fir burial left
