    Nobody should need to say they are a deep thinker, it should speak for itself. John, on the other hand, is a legend.

    It's such a rare thing to see John on a podcast, loved every minute of it! The host was kinda cringe at some points of the podcast, but overall asked great questions.

    What a legendary guest, I always wondered how much of studying philosophy affected his ability to learn Jiu Jitsu or if he would of been a great Jiu Jitsu coach without it.

    • @carloscortes1577
      @carloscortes1577 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      I don't think it affected his ability to learn, but his ability to teach.
      He thinks in systems and problem-solving. But before he teach you the answer he ask you about what you think about the problem so you know the importance.
      I've learned more from his instructionals than from my BJJ coach itself.

    • @T-Fernz
      @T-Fernz ปีที่แล้ว

      @@carloscortes1577 I wonder where I can learn more about his way of thinking, like probelm solving etc.
      I know that Karl popper has similar views on probelm solving, I would like to learn more about that though, his way of thinking about positions and creating a theory of certain things

    • @carloscortes1577
      @carloscortes1577 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    @4:27 John says "I think the oldest child has to be the first one to break the rules... I am not a psychiatrist, but a psychiatrist could definitely give some interesting insights on that."
    I think John is a G... He knows far more than he admits to. Giving up priority of first to talk like that, and yet having the knowledge he has. I think he is an undercover expert.
    Ok, John. Fair play.

    • @xc3ptiona1
      @xc3ptiona1 ปีที่แล้ว

      So long as you earned it, none of your elders can say anything. It seems like you have earned something though.
      I obviously don't know your specific circumstances, but you clearly have earned a lot.
      You are roughly 15 years older than me, but I am an oldest child, so at the very least I can speak on giving a sibling the floor if they have earned it.

    • @xc3ptiona1
      @xc3ptiona1 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't think that the parents get worn down, I just think that the parents learn over time that they don't have all the answers. If the parents had all the answers then they wouldn't get worn down, but after facing push back and trying to fight it, they slowly realize that they can't answer every question.

    • @xc3ptiona1
      @xc3ptiona1 ปีที่แล้ว

      I myself can't answer every question. I make no judgement. Instead of trying to answer every question, how about we focus on an ultimate goal, and push for that?

    • @xc3ptiona1
      @xc3ptiona1 ปีที่แล้ว

      The only way you can be wrong is if you stray away from the ultimate goal.
      Let's make that the standard.

    • @xc3ptiona1
      @xc3ptiona1 ปีที่แล้ว

      And after John says he is naive; he goes on to explain how he does things to practice humility. Listen buddy, I love you and your approach, but you aren't going to fool me, you practice humility to gradually know things.
