  • Shooting and discussing the new Glock Model 45.
To clarify and correct myself, even thought he Glock 17, and maybe some others (not sure), was simply Glock's 17th patent, generally, Glocks just come out in sequential model numbers. When it's time for the Glock 57, it won't matter what the caliber is; it will simply be the next Glock and will be a Model 57. :-)

But, critically, SOME glock models reflect patent numbers (i.e. 17, 19) and after that they number sequentially. Please tell this to MAC. He implied I was an idiot/couldn't read because I said this...

My dream gun was a Glock 17, long story but it was. I was concerned about the longer slide and size for concealment and truly thought the 19 would be a better option and was torn. This was the perfect mix for me, and for it to be called a 45, which reminded me of my favorite reviewer, couldn’t have been a better match. Thanks for the review as always.

I am going to have to get myself one of the Model 45 pistols. I have always liked the full sized frames better on the Glock pistols, so this is a good choice for me. The Glock 19 grip has always felt a little small for me, so it makes me laugh that someone as big as yourself would like the 19 frame size better. But to each their own, that's why the ice cream shops have more flavors than just vanilla! I don't get why some folks are so mad about this particular type of configuration. You're my favorite TH-cam gun reviewer as you have a great sense of humor and you make the hardest shots look easy. God bless.

I own a Gen 4 Glock 35 and a Gen 3 Glock 34 along with a G 45 of those three the G 45 feels the most comfortable in my hand. My hands are a bit small with broad beefy palms and short fingers. Glock really did their homework with the grip redesign on the G 45. I found it necessary to work the trigger guard on the G 35 with a Dremel tool and will do the same with the 34 as both really work over the knuckle on my middle finger during extended range sessions.

Sir I’m a 70 year old guy who cut his teeth on 1911 45ACP’s and while I have long appreciated the dependability and durability of a Glock the damned thing always felt like a 2x4 in my hand until the G45. Several of the Glocks that I’ve owned have been massaged with a Dremel tool just to make them comfortable to shoot on extended range sessions. I won’t happen with that 45. That one’s just fine as is. I've been reluctant to get into Glocks my entire life : but I don't know why - when I finally DID try a model 45 I could more easily shoot it better than about anything else I owned. I am now crazy about it. I am not that good at the range but for some reason I can shoot the 45 reasonably well.

  • @mikecrabtree8200

I have been shooting the G45 for the last ....... well..since the gen4 models came out.
I like the gen4 G19 but the grip is a pinch short for my liking, I use and shoot with the 15 round mag, but prefer the longer G17 grip. So I compromised I use the G17 mags in my 19 and use xgrip mag sleeves.
This combination both looks nice and feels good in the hand. I have never had issues with the grip bumps on the gen4s. And unlike most I like the factory glock sights.
The introduction of the G45 was glock making my carry arrangement out of box. With a few plus items, flared magwell. Front slide grooves ambi slide release, tapered muzzle with a crowned barrel.
When I first saw this pistol I knew I needed to get one. And it took me all of 3 days, most of that was me reading up on them and making sure they were reliable. Which I’m sure for anyone who has ever owned a glock is a no brainer. I just had to cover the reviews.
I still haven’t had her to the range. But if she shoots anything like my g4g19 I’m sure I will be more than happy with her.

Love you Mr. Hickok, you were probably the first person I watched regarding gun reviews back in the day.
My first gun was a GLOCK - some of that was Hickok - and since then, I have found myself appreciating them for what they are. No doubt, they are extremely capable of getting tough jobs done. But I've sold them all, even that first gun that I promised I would never sell.
Seeing people get excited or intrigued by this G45 or the 19X shows how easily we as human beings are effected by hype and groupthink. So many brands have genuinely challenged themselves and created wonderful firearms during the modern era of the 21st century. Yet, GLOCK sticks to tradition... (Which as a person based in conservative tones spiritually and politically I can appreciate)
Early on I really thought the only good gun to buy could only come from Austria in the form of a G19, G23, G35... In so many ways I had to teach myself (remove the internet bias) and venture into different beliefs that other manufactures could make great guns too. I look back and cringe at how dedicated I was to GLOCK, for no reason other than what I had read and experienced anecdotally.
Now, my favorite carry piece is a J-frame and I tend to use my Beretta Type D PX4 in .40S&W as a deep concealed primary in my briefcase while attending the local University.
I spent so much time drinking the G-flavored Koolaid and challenging myself to think differently and try other platforms. As I write this, the video is playing out of sight, "above the screen" at a decibel I can hardly make out. I won't watch the video because I know that GLOCK is so good at maintaining predictable, conservative firearms. They hold the same, they point the same, all triggers from factory have a generic GLOCK break, their "drop in a bucket" sights are adequate and so on. I could pick up my retired Uncle's 1st gen G17 from his LEO days and know it shoots and feels very, very similar to my beloved 3rd GEN GLOCKS of old and know that those too, will shoot like the newest products such as this G45.
Like I said, the intrigue and genuine interest that accumulates from hype and group think blows me away. This gun across all these TH-cam channels will gain millions of views from people on all spectrums of opinion. And I can't figure that out. If you've owned a GLOCK, you should know this by now. There is only so many ways people like NUTN, HICKOK, SOOTCH and so forth (not to mention all the gun porn at your local magazine store) can hash a freaking firearm that has essentially remained unchanged for 32 years!
Ok, I'm done. If you got this far, I owe you an ice-cream. Hope you voted last night. God Bless. Now I'm going to go buy a G45....

      @hickok45  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Firearms are like pocket knives, cars, pickup trucks, shoes, dogs, wallets, furniture, phones, computers, restaurants, etc. Everybody has their favorites. Some folks just accept the fact that everybody has different tastes and that none are necessarily all that much "better" than the other, mostly just different.
Then there are some folks who make a religion out of everything, and if others make different choices, they have to build up their own self-esteem and justify their own choices by calling those who make different choices names and claiming they are simply stupid, ignorant victims of "hype and groupthink."
This is especially common when there's a proven product that lots of people find attractive and own. That makes it easier to paint all those people with a broad brush as being ignorant; after all, any "hipster" who takes a contrarian view appears SO, SO much smarter. At least it makes them feel that way. :-)
Many serious trainers and some pretty serious Special Operations folks choose the Glock. Like myself, they are probably just victims of "hype and groupthink." The Navy SEALs, who test thoroughly and can carry anything they want, are likely carrying the G19 right now because they've read too many gun magazines, or they're just following the crowd, or have seen too many advertisements. :-)
Anyway, there are lots of great guns out there these days; 99% of shooters do some research and search for a firearm that feels good to them. Whatever they choose is their own personal choice, and I will not accuse them of being a slave to pop culture "hype and groupthink."

Hickok45. I find it humorous that you’re more comfortable with the smaller grip of the G19. Here I am an average size guy at 5’8” broad beefy palms and short fingers and found the 1911 a comfortable pistol to shoot. Thee Gen 4 Glock19 that I own usually takes a couple warm up magazines for me to settle in and the groups to shrink. The G45 is the first Glock that didn’t feel like a 2x4 in my grasp and I could shoot passably with “cold”. I love the balance of that G45 and for me it point’s nearly as naturally as the Series 70 Government Model Colt that I sadly let slip through my fingers some years ago. All the best to you and your family there at “the compound “.

To me the glock 30 is an anomaly. It doesn’t fit in with any of the typical sizes. The funny part is, they make a true glock 19/23 size gun chambered in .45 GAP, but for whatever reason decided to make some weird 3.75” barrel gun with a chopped down grip in 45 ACP. Who knows, maybe they’ll look into it when they release more of these “gen 5.5” glocks such as the glock mode 45.

I never expected it to bury the other glocks. For me, it's another option. I personally like them all that I've had. I agree it's a little more slippery than the gen4, but I still like it. The cool thing is that they are selling them both.... options. I like the g45 and g19 and g17 equally. I don't think any one is a weak link. Although I'm not a fan of the gen3. For me when carrying I have a 19 magazine in the gun
and carry a 17 mag as a backup. Or whatever. At least that way your not just stuck with the long grip. Well enough of my 2 cents, Carry On!
