Hi Keith- I keep making the mistake of backing each way against Kauto in the gold cup. I have tried the late exotic Dancer who,sadly, was never going to beat Kauto in any race, Neptune Collonge in 2008 25/1 and Denman 8/1 this year. In my opinion Kauto,at his best, is a machine and better than anything we have ever seen before and that includes Arkle, Desert Orchid, Best Mate,Denman and even Nortons Coin.
dunguib does look special and i backed him in the bumper last year but like tarqogan says these bankers always look bombproof but come unstuck. the one i think looks interesting is master minded in the champion chase. if he gets there in tip top shape then he should be odds on and not the current 7/4. however taking 7/4 ante post about a horse who has been out injured is a bit dodgy. but it depends what you percieve as being value i suppose.
i think denman will win. although kauto may be a more versatile horse i think denmans jumping and galloping power will win the day. last year denman was not ridden in that agressive manner that allows him to get into that jumping and galloping rythym. however denman will have to run a career best to win but i think he is more than up to the task. afterall you cant beat katuo star with your B game. whats your thoughts on the gold cup?
but if your saying kauto wasnt at his best then how about 2009 when denman had just overcome a heart problem which was alot more serious than kauto's injury. and still denman ran a great race. just hoping denman recovers for next year from that fall at aintree and both horses are at their best. both horses over the last together up the cheltenham hill - magic
to be honest with the betfair chase i think it was a tad unfair to call kauto the winner as after looking at the photo i dont think it could be called and therefore a dead heat. and we all know kauto can win the king george he has done it numerous times, i would like to see him take on something as great as denman in the hennessy top weight taking on countless numbers of horses, although not all gold cup class still a few good horses plus good young horses. barbers shop, state of play etc.
im not denying kauto that he is an amazing horse. but at the start of the video 'an unstoppable team' did you not see when denman won the 2008 gold cup. i dont mean to sound anti-kauto and ruby but its true they are beatable. also ruby is an awesome jockey but shouldnt he be getting champ jockey with the horses that he gets. mccoy is a far better jockey than ruby. and the horses AP gets arent as good as ruby.
kauto stars crowning glory winning a very very average gold cup? dont make me laugh. the race was run at a crawl and lacked real strength in depth. id say his 2007 king george win was his crowning glory
