    Very helpul video! I like the idea of using the Word document to choose the font and size for the numbers. One little thing I would like to share, you can change the the layout to landscape, this way you can fit the numbers in one page. Also, if they still doesn't fit, you can move the margins. This can be find under Layout, then Margins and Orientation. I absolutely love your videos! :)

    I did mosaic pavers to line the path to our house with a method similar to this, using the mosaic mesh. However, I glued the glass pieces onto the mesh with Weldbond, and then after it dried adhered the mesh to the pavers with Thinset, and then grouted. They have been outdoors for 2 winters now and are doing fine. Essentially, the Weldbond is only attaching the glass to the lines of the mesh, while the Thinset is attaching the glass to the substrate.

    • @MakeitMosaics
      @MakeitMosaics 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Oh it works to do this way, and for sure WeldBond is super user-friendly. The caution is some folks use too much WeldBond and create a "barrier" that prevents the thin-set from full adhesion and getting up around each tile. When I use WeldBond with mesh just like you only need a drop to hold the tile in place, ultimately the thin-set is the permanent adhesion.

    Fun video - think we need one on our house. Two questions: If it's going to be outside should it be treated with some sort of sealant and if so what do you recommend (ok that was 2 but I have a 3rd). Are there any guidelines for how much space to leave between tile pieces before grouting? Thank you

    • @MakeitMosaics
      @MakeitMosaics 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Great questions. We are not huge advocates when it comes to sealing grout, first off you can buy grout with sealants and UV inhibitors in it and this is not getting foot traffic or anything that will make it dirty except weather and pollution, sealing is labor-intensive, you have to get off every single tile our sealant dulls tile. The space in-between is a personal aesthetic, in the house number in the video is between 1/16 and 1/8". Thanks for being a fan.

    Where I live, I cannot source the type of mesh you recommend so I was wondering about mosquito screen. That does get eaten away (bugs do it…) but is that really a problem when the tiles are fixed with thinset, cement and grout ? Just wondering.

    • @MakeitMosaics
      @MakeitMosaics 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I would not recommend mosquito net, check building supply places near you. The mesh needs to be Alkali-resistant if using thin-set mortar.

I will have to mount this on the wall next to the carriage light out front, so rain will hit it directly. Is that going to be ok? Hi, I am interested in making a house number sign (obviously for outdoors).
    However I am going to be working with polymer clay. I’m going to be making it in mosaic style.
    My question(s) would be: what would be the best substrate & adhesive? My “tiles” will be polymer clay & adhered to a base of polymer clay. They will be baked together so they shouldn’t fall off. I’ll just need to adhere the full address plaque to something that can attach to a brick wall.
    TIA for your help, if possible.

    • @MakeitMosaics
      @MakeitMosaics ปีที่แล้ว

      Gosh, I am sorry, I meant to respond when you first sent this! Wish I knew more about polymer clay - my concern is how it will behave in your climate. I am unsure. As to substrate and adhesive, I would probably use a lightweight substrate and polymer-fortified thin-set - both can handle freeze/thaw. Or you could adhere with an epoxy-based product, or E6000. No wood if exposed to any rain or excessive moisture - it will warp. Check out this video about substrates th-cam.com/video/oKaVqfqS3sc/w-d-xo.html

    Do you use a sanded or unsanded grout outside?

    • @MakeitMosaics
      @MakeitMosaics ปีที่แล้ว +1

      As a rule I use only use polymer fortified sanded grout, not because of artwork going outside, but because of the size of grout lines. Un-sanded is only for grout lines less than 1/8". There really is not a difference between interior and exterior grout, some folks opt to add more polymers for exterior, and some manufacturers have brands with additional additives for UV protection and sealants which can be helpful over time, for example Laticrete's "Permacolor" grout.

      I think in this case, I might poke the holes through the board where you attach to the house, Not mosaic that portion. add a wedi washer there, affixed with screws to the building, and then go back and mosaic over that portion once in place. This will be a permanent application but may be the best choice.

    • @kimwozniak5663

      I tend not to seal my grout unless it is going to be on a horizontal surface where liquids can be spilled, or water can set on it. When I seal, I use the sealer recommended by the grout manufacturer. Some grouts are now being made with sealer as part of the grout.
