This is 2020 and YOU Marilyn are still making a difference. Your eyes in these videos are so heartfelt and direct. If what I've gone through in my lifetime could give you peace, it would have been worth it.

My sisters and mother still call me a liar when I told, trying to protect my niece from the same thing happening to her. Her own mother, my oldest sister, is still angry at me for "telling." Did it do any good? I have no idea. But I am so glad that Marilyn stated that "they never stop" so 20 years later I know I must have done the right thing. No matter what my family is still doing to me. The families have to stop protecting the abusers and blaming the victims. This has to STOP!

Im so glad I found your comment. It reminds me of my own family. Our families want to keep up a fassard. Never stop bravely telling the truth in the face of opposition.

What matters is that your niece knows you are a solid rock for her. That may be her only lifeline.

I can just imagine how many people were/and still are being helped by this. This horrible abuse has and is going on today all over the world.
    Marilyn is an angel.

sweetsmile1: Marilyn communicated with me, too, some years ago and I got to meet her in person when she gave a talk at Duke University. I was able to tell how terrible the psychiatric profession treats survivors of incest and she spoke on some of the same points. She has saved my life and the lives of countless others. God bless you Ms. van Derbur!

I'm sorry your mother denied you the affirmation you needed. I've counseled incest survivors and that was one of their greatest pains. It takes almost as long to forgive mom as it does to forgive the perpetrator. Congratulations and thank you so much for the work you do. God bless you.

The mother is as guilty as her father who did not intervene.

Know that you are not alone and there are many others who have had similar experiences to you, who struggle as you do, grapple with the pain and unanswerable questions as you do.

You're right, the world doesn't want to hear it but telling is important for self as well as other survivors. Hearing each other's stories, the similarities and little differences in detail brings understanding and breaks the isolating feeling that comes with it.

I can't believe the interview actually asked why she did not tell. I lived through hell during my childhood. No way in hell would I have ever told. Things were bad enough but with my dad's parents next door it would have been worse. Papa was a retired minister and psychologist and I would have ruined his precious reputation in the community.
