It was Halloween night and Parliament Funkadelic was about to tear the roof off the
Houston Summit, ready to bless the crowd with their cosmic brew of interplanetary
funk. George Clinton, Bernie Worrell, Bootsy Collins and the rest of the P-Funk
collective were riding the success of their first Top 5 R&B hit, "Give Up The Funk (Tear
The Roof Off The Sucker)," a track that had earned them the kind of radio play that
would bring the masses out to see them live in a stadium-sized arena. The group was
only five dates into the tour when they arrived in Houston, but they were definitely
ready to take it to the stage for an out-of-this-world show like no other.
Taped on October 31, 1976, these seldom-seen performances at the Houston Summit
represent Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic in their ʼ70s prime, in the era of their
Mothership Connection and The Clones Of Dr. Funkenstein LPs-a rare opportunity
for everyone to get their proper dose of The P-Funk. - เพลง
Clinton walking down those stairs was the most Pimpadelic thing I ever seen
2 Step Pimping 😂
Back in 78, I was a long haired, pot smoking teenage white kid who lived in Alexndria VA.
Musicwise I was into my ACDC, Led Zepplin, Van Halen and the likes. But I knew this black kid in school, and he would always brag about Pfunk, Well it wasn't my thing at the time.. Guess I was too white for my own good. Till one day this guy got me a ticket to see Pfunk
at the Captiol center in DC. I guess he had connections for the tickets, but concerts were not too expensive like they are nowadays. Well I went, and it to this day became one of the most memorible shows I ever went too. Because it didn't matter if you was white, black, hispanic, or whatever, this shit was fucking cool, I mean who else had a show like this?
And it taught me a very valueable lesson-that it pays to have an open mind,to take a risk and try something different now and then. FUNK ON PEOPLE!
I am a middle class English white boy and I envy you
Imagination
Don't envy, for I bet their are things in your life I wish I had in mine. just take life for what it is.
like you, I had a different taste for music, until I heard this "weird shit" coming from my neighbours room.. I had to investigate it.. Parliament, Undisputed Truth and many more...
musically the best choice ever made...
Funk on Brother...
:)
George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic are playing at the Tallyho in Leesburg on 2-24-17 if you're interested
I wish I still lived in VA, however I live in San Antonio TX now.
The mothership arrived and Dr. Funkenstein came out to give everyone The Funk. His professional prognosis was funk forever.
The good ole days . Those were the wildest shows next to Rick James it was funky as hell.
@@bmw3842 even James Brown had to up his game when Parliament-Funkadelic and Rick James were touring!
Omg the guitar solo with Glenn and Gary takes me to another dimension every time I hear it. Just beautiful! 🧘🏽♀️🥰😎
Yes so beautiful!
Esta pedazo de banda, a lo largo de su existencia, cada nota que tocó, siempre provenía de sus almas. Sus melodías te vuelan la mente y se experimenta un hermoso viaje, sin necesidad de ninguna sustancia.
The first concert that I attended in my life was Parliament Funkadelic. The year was 1978 and I was in the 8th grade. Wow, it was a mind-blowing experience. Two decades later, I saw Parliament Funkadelic for the second time and the group's performance was still awesome.
These guys put some fun into music. Great riffs, tight horn section, lots of double meanings. Creativity at it's finest.
Theres no better alias for George then Dr. Funkenstein. The man (and the band) are goddamn geniuses
It ought ta be a crime for a groove to be this fonky..
Hatshepsut Kemet criminal posetion of funk in the first degree
Fonky and gawjus!! Ohh, gawjus…I’m talking absolutely gawjus…!!
"we love to funk you funkenstein, your funk is the best !"
I love it when he comes down the steps - Dr. Funkenstein is the ultimate concert character, the getup, the lyrics, the horns, the back up girls . . . its the bomb!
+garagedancer yep
cocaine is a helluva drug!
"lady be my dog, and i'll be your tree... and you can pee on me! "
Him coming off that spaceship down the steps is the best! Just brightens my spirit.

I can barely even fathom how awesome this is
my dad played the drums for George Clinton on this concert
Who’s your dad
greg mcgee The drummer on this gig was Mr.Jerome “Bigfoot” Brailey, your father Mr. Harvey Mcgee played with them in the early day’s not on this gig.
your dad had one of the funkiest beat grooves ever on this song.
Really???
@@robertbright-jc3sd Harvey McGee played with US Soul, which also had Boogie and Garry Shider. George poached them from that band when Eddie Hazel and Billy Bass split in ‘71
That's when music was good, backyard parties with the famlily
Backyard parties with whole neighborhood.
George Clinton…
Bernie Worrell…
That drummer…. 🔥🔥🔥🔥💨💨💨💨

What else can be said?!
Parliament funkadelic 4 ever ‼️❤️💯🔥
People ask me what's great about funk and I say, "go to a youtube page with a good funk song and look at how damn happy all the comments are."
I was there at that concert in Cleveland Ohio...my sister's took me. I never been the same...👍👍👍👍
Aint nothin good unless you play with it...

Used to hear this often as a soldier stationed in West Berlin, 1976-1979.
Parliament funkadelic got a be the coolest band ever...they had idea's no one thought of !!! Love u guys.🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶
We love Dr. FUNKENSTEIN ,YoUR FUNK IS THE BEST!!
This song and performance is so bad ass I want this to play every time I wake up in the morning.
No its not . Really like 2000 somethin ? Outdated . Inge uine
one of the best high concept, stage shows during the 70s
This beat is so greasy. Never gets old.
one of the greatest groups of musicians of all times
I can smell the FUNK 🤭
Back in the 70's and 80's I loved going to see them perform in Detroit, Michigan. Everyone at the concert brought weed and drinks!!! We would pass joints down the rows and strangers would pass their joints to us... we all had liquor and beers and the area staff did not stop us!!! George would ask for someone in the audience to throw him a joint and about 50+ joints would be thrown at him from all across the arena!!! Those were the days!!
That was Chicago too. The BEST place to be was in the middle of the aisle. Puff puff pass!
LEGENDS
I was there that night with 3 friends. it was indeed a happening and great performance by a classic group.
Deke Brown I don't need to say how lucky you are.
Delton Brown people today go around leading funkless lives and don't even know it..
Delton Brown I wish I was you lololol
that is incredible
If time machine will be invented, I will go to that concert in the first place!
I watch this vid at least once a day to improve my interplanetary funksmanship!
OMG! It's going on a year already. I miss Garry! funk in peace! There will never be another like you and Parliament-Funkadelic! One of the greatest bands of all time!
This live version is actually better than the album version! I was only 3 years old at the time. 1976 was quite a year, evidently! Car Wash, Rocky, Bad News Bears, Rose Royce, Funkadelic, Bootsy, Javelins, Peaceful Barbecues, etc.the good old days!
Don't forget Roy Ayers' "Everybody Loves The Sunshine" album.
@@quentinparker7404 actually that was 1977
@@MD-DLive No sir. It was released on May 12, 1976 on Polydor Records. Do the research. Plus, you left out Stevie Wonder's "Songs In The Key Of Life" album which was released in September of '76.
@@quentinparker7404 My mistake, you are Absolutely CORRECT! Yes, The Keys of life album, I think Bobby Womack 's Facts of life album too, I think!
Timeless music
My god, it has arrived! But...., my affairs. They are not in order! I'm not yet ready, ya dig?
Touche! As a youth, those album covers put stark fear into me.
Glenn Goins....!
For all you TH-camrs out there making P-FUNK comparisons to Zappa..please just stop it. Zappa was no where in the same league, planet or galaxy in regards to matching the P-FUNK funk.
Definitely in a funk sense I agree, zappa was his own genius though
i like it when he says "They call me the BIG PEEL"
My head still can't fathom how good this is... The groove is soooo good...
Live hits so hard... What a track
You be my dog and I'll be your tree. You can pee on me. LMFAO! Was lucky enough to work at the Belly Up Tavern when George Clinton played there. He funked that place hard as hell!
In my wildest dreams musicianship makes a huge comeback and saves us from 90% of the crap that passes for music today.
Oh hell yes my freind. ain't no computer, drum machine, sequencer, synphasizer
bullshit here. Real music, from real musicians, playing real musical instruments.
There is no substitute for the real thing !
We'll get there!
rbagel55 hey, synthesizers are fine. Heck, you saw what Bernie did with 'em. Parliament practically made the whole idea of using a synth for bass.
This is by far the most subdued version of DF that I have ever heard! Slow and funky!
ending of this song is just pure excellence... two funky guitars playin' with eachother... AMAZING !!! 4:40 ->
leolardo I came here again for that ending
Seen these guys 14 times, love theses guys

Fat bass drum makes the whole groove sound so bad-ass.
Thank you for this gem; I was too young to see them back then when they were in their prime.

He understands the Hippocratic oath indeed.
best live ever!!!!
Classic FUNK
the best , i love this performance ,no more good bands so sad
Zappa loved Funkadelic, but he really wanted Glenn Goines. Glenn was an incredible vocalist and equally good on rythym/lead guitars.
Play wit it baby play wit it. lol
It shows that Prince got some of his "cool" moves from George.
Look at this entrance, the way he walks down the steps...
Love both of them. Go FUNK yourselves, y'all!
Word brother.
74 people who disliked this, they need the pill of funk.

Wow!!
this was a show!!!
If you ever got to see P-Funk you know exactly what you didn't miss! AWESOME SHOWS!!!!! They pplayed 3+ hours straight 2 of the times I saw them. They had the house lights turned on on
them at the Majestic in Detroit back in the late 90's.
Does anyone remember the live album where the AUDIENCE sang the lyrics to this song? It was POWERFUL and I am looking for that one.
@ladycat629: it's on the lp "parliament live" u can get it on cd at amazon.com. if u dig hard enuff, u can get it on vinyl also.
That groove gets you movin
If I had a time machine...
Did he just say "Pee on me baby?" God damn dude's freaky. I love it.
Gary and Glenn are called when Eddie taking a break
I wonder if Gary or Glenn was related to Kci and JoJo their voices is very similar in a way
my entry
I remember listening to FM radio back in Detroit in the 70s, when FM radio was good, and listening to Parliament, Frank Zappa, B52s, Steely Dan, David Bowie and Bob Marley, all back to back on after another. I wish radio would return to that no format, just good ass music style.
"We love to funk you, Funkenstein" :D
The greatest black prog artist ever.
