I was driving past Milner not long ago & telling my wife about this amazing model railroad project I watched on TH-cam. I had just assumed that I was subscribed already & that you hadn’t put out any videos in awhile. How wrong I was!!! Thanks Boomer. I don’t follow a lot of TH-cam channels. I prioritize quality over quantity. Your channel is definitely the former and worth supporting.
IMHO as far as your time is concerned Brother you do what what is necessary for your craft to remain consistent and your life to remain yours. If it becomes a burden, you know it yourself, the art will suffer. Besides half the appeal of your episodes is your demeanor and passion. It's infectious and we the followers carry that same passion to the bench between shows thanks to you. I used to hang on every article in model magazines from people like Shepard Paine, John Olsen and Bob Boudreau but never had the opportunity for a rapor with them like your followers do with you. I've had a ball! Cheers!
10,000 thumbs up to this comment. There is so much instructional content in previous videos, I could spend years here , learning and watching. I have watched some videos 10 times and I learn something new each time.
No need to change much. Just pace yourself and remember family first. TH-cam is strange. I have a track work video with over a million views and other videos that I really like with only a couple hundred views. Oh well… We’re old enough to know that it’s still amazing that we can share and interact like this versus when we were kids. LOL! Take care Boomer!
TH-cam is a funny bird for sure. I would prefer not to have a video go viral. They don't do much for a channel in the long run. In fact they balloon it with subs that never come back.
You / this channel deserve an endowment. Thanks for sharing your work with us, Boomer. The best thing you have taught me is to let go, experiment, practice, and learn. Also, how to save it after you've learned, LOL. Keep doing what you love - the world is better for it. Peace, Josh
Boomer your content is really 2nd to none! I wish I had the money to be able to send a superthanks. You are a perfectionist of the worst kind and it really shows in your content. The quality of your videos are supurb!
Thank you Boomer for sharing your knowlage. You have convinced me to by an airbruch, compressor, IPA, some Golden products and Matt Medium. Keep up the good work. Best regards Roger from Norway
I found your channel over Christmas and subscribed right away. Love your channel and you are one of the very few who show us how its done and add to it your artistic style. Ive had my own layout for 20 some years and you inspired me to redo some stuff and try different methods in weathering…. And use acrylic!!! Cheers Boomer!
I've noticed that less youtube videos is becoming a trend in the Model Railroad community. It's sad for us the consumer, but at the same time I get it. Hard to make quality content when you are having to film, edit, pick a subject, make the subject, and then upload and hope that the consumer likes the content. All of that takes away from modeling time, after all this is our hobby. Luv your work Boomer, I'd rather wait a few days to see your work than have a vid that doesn't show your quality well enough. Happy modeling, keep up the good work, brother.
Thanks! You are the best. I hope you get a beverage you like and realize that you are a true star in model railroading. You've got those "golden hands" that really make this all work so fabulously. I am grateful for your films and all you do - it give me the push to do more - and I'm getting back into hobby. Keep doing what you do - you are the GOAT!!!
Best of luck on 2025! Thanks again for taking the time to share your journey and experience. As for your video or audio quality… I would watch in 240p in black and white….lol. We are all so lucky to have you allowing us to learn from you. As for what videos and schedules you want to make for 2025, do you! What ever makes you enjoy this hobby to the most and allows you time with the family. We will support you! I can’t wait to see what you have to share in 2025. Cheers!
I am sure there are guys out there who would like to start their own you tube channel, I am not sure I want to because of all the painting and scratch building I do for folks. The vlog gives you the tools you would need to make a first class channel. Thanks Boomer for all you do for us!!
Thanks, Boomer. All good information to know. You really need a cameraman at the ready anytime you're working on the layout. Maybe it's time for Dusty to start pulling her weight.
Thanks Boomer for sharing all your skills and knowledge of the equipment that you use. As always I learn something every time I watch your videos. Cheers.
Good video! I’m a retired pro audio guy, but have also dabbled in video, etc. for decades… I shoot my videos with used Sony A7s and vintage Takumar lenses. Works for me. Wireless mics are good for convenience, but in pro audio there is a saying “the best wireless system in the world sounds almost as good as a $20 mic cable.” All else being equal, a wired mic will always sound better.
I've never had any complaints about your audio. In fact, I find it far superior to most of the channels that I follow. Your content is fantastic, and I always enjoy it. Thank you for your efforts.
Thanks for all you do, Boomer. You make things feasible and the only thing holding anyone back is just sloth. You really are the "John Allen" of our times. Keep sharing - WOW!
Good Morning Boomer. Interesting technology and video that you just shared. We can really appreciate your channel. I think It’s great that you always tike the time to provide your viewers with a complete and thorough understanding of all your content and what it takes to be a master modeler. You’re the best, Thank You!
Of all the train channels, you have been the best in artistic flair and motivation to get me going on my layout. I've been a Nikon user for the last 20 years, they are great products and I've used several brands. Keep up the GREAT work!
Boomer, thank you for an insight into what equipment you use, and how you use it. I love the content, and realise that you need to balance your life as well, family is very important. Keep the joy in the hobby, as that does come through, and stay safe, and Happy Modelling (that is not a cliche, I mean it) Michael
You can still find a used Nikon D5500 DSLR (in excellent condition) for 300.00 bucks. I think they are the best DSLR (Cropped Lens) camera money can buy. They shoot excellent stills and video and the default audio (with Lavalier) is superb. Cheers.😁
Have you looked into any of the new Sony cameras? Sony is doing really amazing things with video and I believe have even surpassed Canon for prosumer interchangable lense video cameras.
@@HumancityJunction I heard that Sony is great. In fact I looked at one of their video cameras. I have a healthy investment in FX Lens now so it wouldn't be practical to change right now.

Thanks Boomer, would be great to meet in person, but that's not that easy with this big bucket of water between Canada and Europe ( Netherlands) cheers.

Shotgun mics are great if you can point them at yourself (off camera). They actually work the best but can be challenging when you move around which is why I use a Lavalier on a longer cable.
I really appreciate what you do and I have no idea how you find the time that you can do this. I did see you got honorable mention in the Dec 2024 RMC and on a couple of TH-cam videos as well. A great big Thanks.

The inspiration you have provided to many modellers, rail, and others is nothing short of amazing. To share your skills and time and to carefully and thoughtfully share your content, I can't thank you enough. Following your content has helped me to improve my skills and try different things, and it has improved my layout massively. Thank you again
Interesting. To be honest, creating videos is as involved as creating a model, and there's only so much time available to split between them. I tend to watch each video a couple times. First time is just to enjoy watching. After that, I search for a couple that are applicable to whatever project I'm working on and rewatch to help review techniques or approaches, and I may view them several times as I work on that project. And there are other times that I will rewatch a video just because they are fun to watch. Thanks!
You are so inspiring as a modeler, and the knowledge and wisdom you share in your craft is priceless. I had been planning a shelf layout in N scale for years, carefully thinking out how to go about creating it... and then I stumbled upon your channel, which forced me to rethink my approach. And that's a good thing. My new approach will be more realistic, if not strictly prototypical. I'm planning a "railroad of lies," but by employing your insights and examples (and those of several others I've discovered on youtube, eg, mikehotrains and RImodeler79) my end result should [hopefully] be much more satisfying.
I never had a problem listening to your videos, they sounded fine to me. However thanks for the info on the wireless system you have. I’m not much of a tech guy, my digital camera is a Nikon coolpics plus my phone. Still use my Minolta SRT 102 for film, (I wish Kodak would bring back Kodachrome for slides).
Wow what a great chat Boomer and all the best for this coming year regards Fred . Ps I might dig out my canon dslr which I use with my old Pentax lenses. Many thanks for your tips
Hi Walter. It's good to see you personally appearing in your videos. Also, I really appreciate your sharing so much about methods and techniques that are so impactful in the Model Railroading hobby. In that vein, I have a question for you. When you do a repaint an engine or rolling stock, do you recommend that the original paint be first removed or can it be effectively over sprayed? I've not yet done any painting but hopefully the Winter will give way to warmer weather soon so I can begin using the air gun my Wife bought me. Thanks in advance for any direction you may offer. Regards.
I apologize Warren, my bad. I always had a difficult time recalling names. Thank you so much for responding with this advice. I'm really a nube wrt painting and I've carefully documented nearly all of your paint type, colors and mixes over the years you've been posting. Regards.
Boomer I was a little worried at the outset of your video that you were going to say you were stepping away from sharing your adventure in modeling River Road. Thankfully you are not, but I totally get the time commitment and understand your need to reduce to one episode a week. I just want to say how much I appreciate your channel and how your tips, tricks and techniques have inspired me to work to become a better modeler. Take care.
hey Boomer, thanks for the update and recommendation for a camera/recording equipment. I use the alvoxcon wireless lavalier microphone for smartphone & camera and it works great and is economically friendly. Other than having to purchase a apple lightning 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter, there's no issues Thanks, Terry
Rode is nothing but the best Aussie tech - quality - but we do not charge extra just for the name as Americans seem to want to do - yes it is top stuff at not over inflated prices but buy quick before Mr Trump puts on his tariffs in the USA
@@boomerdiorama I use a GO wired Lavalier for Zoom and other stuff, I use the rode video mics on cameras and the podcasters and procastesr in our production area. People seem to think they must not be as good as other mics as they are cheaper than Like EV or Shure but the spec sheets do not lie. There are good solid work horses and your don't pay a premium just due to the name on them.

Love those old cameras. ;-)
Wow what a great chat Boomer and all the best for this coming year regards Fred . Ps I might dig out my canon dslr which I use with my old Pentax lenses. Many thanks for your tips
Sounds great!
Appreciate all yoou do! Yours is my favorite channel. Best wishes from Bali.
Thank you!
Thanks
Thank you!
Thank you I really look forward to your videos.
You are welcome!
Darnit! I wish you had made this earlier. I had a ah, um, rather large collection of Nikon equipment that I donated. Easy to say now.
Sorry . . . ;-)
Thanks!
You are awesome! Thank you!
Thanks
Thank you for supporting the Channel!
Regards.
My name is not Walter . . . lol. Best to strip a model before you paint it. If you are just weathering one you can paint over the original paint job.
I apologize Warren, my bad. I always had a difficult time recalling names. Thank you so much for responding with this advice. I'm really a nube wrt painting and I've carefully documented nearly all of your paint type, colors and mixes over the years you've been posting. Regards.
Cheers!
Take care.
The passion is the same. Time never increases though . . . lol. Cheers. ;-)
hey Boomer, thanks for the update and recommendation for a camera/recording equipment. I use the alvoxcon wireless lavalier microphone for smartphone & camera and it works great and is economically friendly. Other than having to purchase a apple lightning 3.5 mm headphone jack adapter, there's no issues Thanks, Terry
You're welcome Terry, glad you're finding success with your gear!
This video is so wholesome
O.K. . . . glad to hear it . . . ;-)
Thanks for your videos. I saw on the internet are news. At Canada's person in charge is resigned, so canada might be looking up.
I hope so
Yeah. I hope so too . . . ;-)
Thanks for the info, Boomer📷🚂🇨🇦🙋
You are welcome!
Sorry off topic, can I ask what color blue you used on your locomotives? Thanks Ed
I used Tamiya (X-4) Blue. I gloss coat later.
@ thank you sir
Well deserved Boomer 😊
Thank you for supporting the channel!
Are you ok? You looked wild in this video 😳
Christmas can be tough when you lose family members, etc. Thank you. All is well. Cheers.
I see, had a tough year as well. There is more light coming, spring is near. Stay well, bless!
Thanks Boomer!!!
Sure thing! You are welcome!
From perspective of 30+ year career: The hardest part of Video is Audio.
Lighting is a challenge as well. Not many talk about it. Most don't see the additional; lights I use. ;-)
Rode is nothing but the best Aussie tech - quality - but we do not charge extra just for the name as Americans seem to want to do - yes it is top stuff at not over inflated prices but buy quick before Mr Trump puts on his tariffs in the USA
Rode does work well. I like their basic Lavalier mic because it simply works and sounds the best. It even sound better than the wireless GO II.
Thanks Boomer. I don’t follow a lot of TH-cam channels. I prioritize quality over quantity. Your channel is definitely the former and worth supporting.
Thanks for supporting the channel and sharing those encouraging words. I really appreciate the compliment more than the other . . . ;-)
Thanks!
Awesome! Thank you!
