    I can easily tell when ghost believers don't watch more than 3 minutes of the video, because they don't realize that towards the end of the video, I give reasons why the ship IS haunted and that I have seen a ghost on it.

      I saw a red dress move from left to right and back again, while hanging in the shop one evening while ironically waiting for the Haunted tour at midnight. I would be happy to send you a photo of the dress hanging in the window.

      I had two distinct experiences. While working on the ship’s bow during the off season. I was standing at my post without a person in sight. I could see for a few hundred feet down prom deck and out on the bow. It had rained the night before. This always sends tons of tree branches and urban debris Dow the LA river. The ship was surrounded by debris that had worked its way through the rock wall. I thought to myself “it would sure be scary to fall into that”. Just as I was finishing this thought I heard a woman behind me saying “hello?” As if to ask my something. I turned to reply but no one was there anywhere. Again wide open deck with clear view. The voice sounded like she was right behind me. Hhmmmm? I was there another evening years after that having dinner with friends, after which we walked around enjoying the sites. We were very far forward in 3rd class areas when we headed down the main staircase when it felt like someone grabbed my right are very hard yanking it in a downward direction. My arm got very cold which caused it to ache the rest of the night. One of my friends had also been a tour guide who knew a lot of the ship’s history. He recalled a time when a woman fell down that staircase in rough weather killing her. Was she falling again and grabbing me in her fall? Lastly, while celebrating our anniversary overnight in the hotel, my wife woke early and decided to let me sleep and go walk Sun Deck. She saw a staircase leading to a small deck space on Sports Deck. A woman up there was looking down from the railing. My wife went up to check it out. When she reached the deck nobody was there. She had not passed the woman on the stairs and there was no door or other staircase. She thought for a moment and suddenly felt frightened which sent her hurrying back to our cabin to tell me the story. In my life I keep information in one of two categories. There is stuff I know and can show proof of accuracy. This I share with people as fact. There is also stuff I believe. I have no way of proving any of it but I believe it based on personal experience. This I will only share as belief, but not very often. I know what I experienced but would not assert it as fact.

      My biggest problem with the ghosts is how they take away from the ship's history. So I choose not to believe in them as long as she's marketed as a haunted hotel. I find it insulting!

      @Lets Lego, a family was not strangled to death on the Queen Mary, that happened at their home. It is a common story that is incorrectly associated with the Queen Mary, that family were never even passengers on the ship, their grandmother was.

    It’s a beautiful ship. I have stayed overnight on the ship a couple of times and had an experience that could be interpreted as supernatural. However, it was in 1989 which is exactly when Disney started marketing that it was haunted. I have always suspected the crew but it was fun nonetheless. More importantly, it would be a shame if this ship fell into obscurity. The history, beauty, and grandeur would be missed.

    My dad worked security on the ship in the early 80s. Making his rounds, he was coming up on the piano room and he could clearly hear the piano being played. Thinking he was going to catch someone playing the piano, which was off limits, he popped into the room just as the music stopped. Ready to say "caught-cha!" , he instead was left with goosebumps n chills.
    As of 2024, the annual haunted harbor Halloween thing has must of the activities off the ship. Two mazes were actually on the ship and at that, they were on the bottom decks.

    Water tight door #13 isn't the actual door. it was simply labeled #13 for the "Haunted" events. The actual door was totally removed, and yet, people claim to experience paranormal activity at that spot, simply because they pre-suppose that the spot is "haunted". It's all power of suggestion.

    I remember going to the Queen Mary when I was around 10-11 years old. We were on the main deck where everyone else was and we were near the hospital room. I saw a man in a fancy black suit with a hat and I watched him walk across the deck and into the hospital/quarantine room? Then my family and I decided to go in and look at the room too so we walked in and the man was gone. From what I remember the room only had one way in and one way out. I still remember it like it was yesterday, I was so mesmerized by his outfit that I remembered it very well. I'm not sure if he was an apparition or spirit or just a nicely dressed person enjoying their day out but he sure did look old fashioned.

    There have been many deaths aboard QM that gave rise to ghost stories. I've known people who claim to have had odd experiences they couldn't explain. I've had a couple myself. The stories they tell now did come from Disney. When I was a QM tour guide in the 70s we were told by management that even if we were not in uniform and not on board the ship, if we were caught stalking ghosts and QM we would be fired. Yes Disney imagineers did write the stories taking great liberties with existing stories. A fellow tour guide recalled stories near the first class swimming pool featuring a green mist the came from the dressing rooms in the aft section of the pool area . . . where off-duty guides would go to smoke pot on their breaks. He wrote a story that was published where he said, yes, there were such sitings in the pool, but we just called it cannabis. Good job telling the truth about ghosts and QM. BTW, Halloween in all of its iterations was good for about one third of the annual income there for several years through Shipwreck to Dark Harbor.

    My Mother took me to stay on the Queen Mary for the weekend on my birthday when I was a teenager back in 1986, because since the age of 11 years old I became interested in the Titanic after watching the movie "Raise the Titanic" back in 1980 before the Titanic was found.
    We went on the tour and on the tour the tour guide took us into one of the pool areas and did tell us about the tragic event of the little girl and told us about her still being seen or heard there, I can't fully remember.
    I have never been the most observant person, but I have been on the Queen Mary many times over the years walking the decks and taking the tours, even the tour of the Titanic exhibit that they had on board the ship and after all that including staying aboard the ship for the weekend of my birthday as a teenager, I can very honestly tell you that I have never heard, seen or felt anything strange or spooky aboard that ship, I have always enjoyed every moment of walking along her decks with a sort of feeling of being able to experience a bit of the past.

    Disney with the Haunted Idea sounds about right

  • @Kaidhicksii
    @Kaidhicksii 3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    Finally got around to finishing this. Once again, you have quite the bank of knowledge on the Queen Mary and Disney, and I learned a couple of new things today. I should've known that Disneyland and other companies later on would've made up fictional ghost stories about the Mary to draw attention, and the dark matter theory is quite intriguing indeed. As one who has never been a believer in parallel dimensions, it provides some more food for thought on that matter.
    I will conclude with this. While the experiences of others on TH-cam do provide compelling evidence that there may be ghosts aboard the ship, not to mention the several stories throughout her service life in peace and war, I have never been on the Queen Mary, so I cannot say definitively as to whether or not she is haunted. That said, do ghosts exist? Oh yes, they do.
    My evidence of this dates back a few short years ago, 2018 at the latest. I was in my bedroom on the third floor of my house. To give an accurate depiction of the environment, my condition, and the ensuing event, I share this room with my younger brother. My bed is on the right of the room, closest to the exiting door, while his is on the left, closest to the window. In front of my bed is a large chest of drawers with a heating lamp on the far left, as well as additional items that have since accumulated on it. There is nothing that dangles over the edge however. The drawers face away from my bed, towards the middle of the room. As for my bed, it is fairly neat if I do say so myself for a teenage boy. The only things that stick up from the ground are a paper totem pole that I made back in elementary school, which I have since removed and placed under the bed with everything else, and two wooden pillars that adorn the corners of the bed. The tent that I have on the bed today, which provides extra shade and privacy for sleeping, was not something I had at that time. I was laying down in the plain open, my legs and feet above the sheets as I was a bit warm that night. Additionally, I was also restless and a bit itchy, tossing and turning back and forth and sometimes scratching the occasional itch. Lastly, my brother was in my mother's room on the other side of the hallway that night, sound asleep, and I saw him leave at the time. I was all alone.
    I had just finished rolling back into a straight, standard sleeping position - back on the bed, legs straight and facing the front edge of the bed, laying in the middle - when I was scratched on my left foot. Now to get an idea as to what this sensation was like, it was the equivalent to giving someone a handshake, and then that person pulls a prank on you by scratching the palm of your hand. That was exactly what this sensation felt like: as if someone used their fingernail to slowly but deliberately scratch down the sole of my foot. At that, I immediately froze. No more tossing, no more turning, no more scratching, no more breathing. My eyes were also closed when this happened, so I didn't see anything. Needless to say they stayed closed, and I remained like this for about 5 minutes, before finally working up the nerve to open my eyes and move my legs. I want to emphasize one more time that there was no one and no thing in that room at that time that could've possibly done that. There was nothing dangling from my drawer like I said, and my totem pole was tucked in the far right corner between my bed and drawer, to where I'd have to deliberately stretch my leg to reach it. My foot did not graze the wooden pillars of the bed; otherwise I would've received a distinct and obvious rubbing sensation instead of a scratch. It could not have possibly been an itch either. The difference between an itch and a scratch is that an itch is a tingling sensation. It gradually comes up, and you might not notice it at first until it becomes a lot more obvious and irritable. You either have to scratch it to get rid of it, or wait it out until it eventually goes away. It isn't like a freak wave in that it comes up and leaves you in mere seconds. With a scratch, it is a much more solid feeling that only a physical object can make, whether it's something you've done yourself or if someone else has done it. It can travel any part and any distance of your body, and it can take as long or as short as it wants to go away, depending on the situation. That is the exact sensation I felt on my foot: it wasn't any mere itch. Lastly, the only person who could've possibly been responsible for this act was my younger brother. He is the kind of person who would do and does this kind of stuff, long story short. Yet again, I saw him leave our room with my own eyes. Furthermore, after I scampered out of my bed and ran to my mother's room, he was right there, sound asleep. If he were the one to scratch my foot, I would've known. I'd have either heard him, seen that he was still awake in my mother's bed, or even recognized the sensation of his finger scratching my foot. And he would've admitted it. To this day, he still denies that he ever did that. Normally if he did something, he will admit it, whether it's the moment after or some time later. And I believe him for all of the reasons that I listed above.
    This is just one of several stories that myself and my family have had with ghost encounters, stories which I will not delve into unless asked, lest I write another essay or fail to give an accurate recreation of what happened. You can take this with a grain of salt. Like you said, something can happen to one person, but it didn't happen to others. I am just a complete stranger who comments on your videos. You haven't any idea who I am, and thus no way of knowing whether I'm legit or not. I have no way of proving this happened to me besides my good word, and these days it's a bit hard to take a person's word. And that's fine. But I know what happened to me that night. The last bit of doubt I have that I was touched by a ghost that night is through my own doubt, where I try to come up with a logical explanation such as those I have listed above. Maybe, since I was still tired when this happened - it was roughly the middle of the night - I might've felt an itch, but mistook it for something else. But every fiber in my body and consciousness tells me otherwise. And I don't heavily discount such possibilities unless I know for an absolute fact what happened. If I can leave you with anything to make up your own minds on the legitimacy of my story, it can only be my good word. While I may not have the proof to show you that this happened, one thing about me is that I am a man of few words, contrary to what you see of me here online. Things like this I will not say, unless I know for a fact as to what happened.

    I know it isn't related to the Queen Mary, but I did have experience with the paranormal.
    Basically I was on the USS Midway in San Diego around July 2013. At the time it was a self guided tour. During the tour, I walked into the sick bay or the hospital of the ship. When I walked in, it was cool like 60°F. As I walked passed one of the beds, it got real cold as in freezer temperatures. I literally started bolting out of there, and when I did that the air was 60°F. When I went back to the spot, no freezing temperatures. I asked the staff and was told that at some point in it's service some died in the sick bay. Either I felt a dead person's presence or someone that was sick on the ship. Only the Lord knows.

Every time when i bang the wall. There was no Animal Scurrying. So i kept ignoring it every night to get some sleep; And boy i was so dumb to do so. On some nights (Mainly on Weekends) I would wake up and down my shoulder straight my arm would be three claw marks. And when i heard the sounds again; I got up and told my grandma that it was happening again. So she grabbed a Cross Necklace and went into my room. And then; I kid you not! When she put it on a nail in my wall and said a prayer; The sounds stopped and i haven't heard it since then.

    I definitely believe it is haunted. But I’m open to the view that people made it haunted or made it “more” haunted than it already was because of their belief that it is haunted. Probably attracted a lot of spirits to go there. During the day time I went to the bathroom in the front of the ship and I saw a man in a suit come out of the stall. I looked directly at him through the mirror and he was gone.

    Thank you for your well grounded views on this topic, Alex. I have been to the Queen Mary a number of times, even a private tour with a well-known psychic. I always shake my head when people think of the Queen Mary as only a 'haunted ship'. The Queen Mary has so much rich history and art deco that also needs to be appreciated. I've witnessed people seeing a ghost in everything, from lights flickering to a face that is no more than a pattern in the wood paneling. The psychic I was with many years ago told me that room B340 was not haunted. He never felt anything there and it was a gimmick started by Disney. He did however tell me that Jackie was a true ghost that came from the second class swimming pool and now resided in the first class pool area. I have heard incredible audio from video in the first class swimming pool area of a little girl. I do have an open mind about that one. My understanding is that not all deaths were recorded on the Queen Mary. I do see in your own recent video that you and your videographer captured a whispery voice and a moving orb spotted at the door at the same time which you believe to be ghostly in origin. I have also known techie people who did network wiring on the Queen Mary late at night that heard disembodied voices. So, yes I think The Queen Mary could be haunted but it is also overly sensationalized and most of the time you will never experience anything out of the ordinary if you visit.

    • @AlextheHistorian
      @AlextheHistorian  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Well it was leased by Disney, owned by Long Beach, but I get what you mean. Yeah Disney made up all the big scary stories that are told on tours, but I'm more inclined to believe in the smaller, more common stories of seeing shadow figures, taps on the shoulder, disembodied voices, etc. There's a video that has nothing to do with ghost hunting, it's just a guy doing a silent walk through of the ship. Suddenly a cabinet door unlocks and opens. He gets a little spooked and walks away from it. He told me himself that it took him by surprise.
      Normally I wouldn't think anything of a cabinet door suddenly opening, due to the ship's design, gravity can open or close doors...but in this particular area of the ship, the door would be prone to closing, not opening. And the latch is designed to hold during rough weather at sea...so it was a pretty interesting video capture.

    The thing I don't understand is that you can have a lot of people who will tell you the same story about a haunting, ghost or whatever, but they say it in such a way that is convincing and it makes you wonder why they have any reason to lie about it? I mean, why would you make up a story, even if you gain literally nothing from it? It just doesn't make any sense.

    • @AlextheHistorian
      @AlextheHistorian  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I dont know, but sometimes multiple people over the course of time will claim they see the same things in an area where a ghost has no reason to be. Like the girl Jackie for instance, she was totally made up, but people claim they knew nothing about her until after they saw her ghost, but no young girl ever died on the ship. There were I think 2 infant deaths and a few elderly female deaths, but not young girls. It makes me think the people who claim they saw Jackie before they learned about her, aren't being 100% honest.

    The best way to test and see if some place is haunted is not tell people visiting it’s haunted.
    Human have a nasty tendency to see pareidolia, which is one of the explanation of supposed “haunting”. Making something that isn’t a face at all looking like a face in 0.1 seconds.
    Human also experience other things like DejaVu and confirmation bias, hence if you tell someone something is haunted, they will start to see/experience haunting phenomenas.

    I wish the paranormal or so-called ghosts didn't exist, particularly for locations like the QM. "Spookiness" probably hurts the QM more than helps it. I read a person saying when she worked on the ship, room B340 was used as an office. She sort of dismissed the idea it was haunted, which made me go a-ha! & feel relieved (I'm looking at you, Disney). But she also said on one occasion the coffee maker in the room apparently did a poltergeist routine. Don't know how honest or accurate she is, but the metal placard for room B340 being pulled out & left missing because of vandalism can be traced to real-life demons. Also the jerks who through the decades have ripped off or ruined historic valuables belonging to the QM

    Love the vid! Just subscribed! Since you were a cast member at Disneyland I had a question, how come Disneyland is a little secretive when it comes to ride breakdowns. Like last time I was there I asked why a particular ride was broken and the CMs at the front said they didn’t know, even though I literally saw Maintenance working on it when they could’ve asked. I guess simply, why doesn’t Disney give guests a more informative reason why it isn’t working rather than I don’t know. Also, do you think Dark Harbor will ever come back? I know the third party who ran it said they weren’t gonna do it anymore. Thanks.

    • @AlextheHistorian

      As Cast Members we are simply told not to divulge information about ride break-downs. When you think about it, nobody really needs to know why. All you need to know is the ride is down. And telling them only helps spread information about the condition of the ride systems, which can be detrimental to the ride or the park.
      As for Dark Harbor, I don't think it will, and I hope not. There has been video online showing the old fire-hazard haunt maze was finally removed from inside the ship.

    I live in a city in Eastern Europe. A few years ago a British psychic came to stay with me, and she went around town looking for ghosts. In the main market square, which is made up of houses from the 16th century, she saw lots of spirits. Later that day I took her down a modern street a few km away. It's a typical dull 20th century suburb: big wide road, a Circle K, Leclerc supermarket, and a few hideously ugly cement tower blocks from the communist era. She saw nothing. The thing is, that modern area was built over the obliterated ruins of the Jewish Quarter, which was razed to the ground in the 1940s. There was also a hanging site where Polish dissidents would be executed. In total, about 25,000 people were murdered in that area, though there's no sign of it today apart from a bronze plaque. My point being, she saw ghosts where she expected to see them. When she could sense she was in an ancient market square all the stories of witch burnings and beheadings and lepers etc. we're familiar with from the past came out. When she was in a typical modern suburb none of those cues existed. I think the Queen Mary, and places like her, are full of cues. I am not saying that ghosts don't exist, perhaps we need those cues to tune us in to them? I just found it an interesting that the psychic saw nothing in a place you'd logically expect to be very, very haunted.

When she took a photo before leaving you can see a man standing there but you could see through him the wall and the door and he was wearing what looked like a blue suit and a hat. So sad that this ship might be sunk or taken apart.

      Neither will happen, because that is too expensive. It's currently undergoing preservation.

      It's in a permanent coma, moored in Long Beach California as a tourist attraction. As a wee lad I traveled on her at very end of her service 1967, remember it like yesterday

    If you are walking in a dark area that you've been told was haunted time and time again, even if you think you don't believe it, you're mind will always have some doubt. Your brain will just make stuff up sometimes.

    Oh my God. I'm sure now when I'll be In the United States, I don't even have enough risk to spend an evening at Queen mery. It's better to go to admire the city, not to see ghosts. Thank you so much for the video❤

      @@AlextheHistorian I'm just scared😨😅. I watched a video where the Armenians visited this ship....I was just blown away there was no elevator working, but there were sounds and a the man said Get away from the door!!! I was scared and there were very scary sounds in the room in B340 too. But if there is such an opportunity, then I may be able to visit there, I'm just not in America, but I really want to visit the USA and Queen Mary there. And if I'm in this ship, I'll definitely go check on the ship at night, but I'll definitely take someone with me because if I go there alone, that's it.... I'm definitely going to piss myself out of fear.😅🤣😂

      @mikisahakyan3089 don't worry, I've been aboard the ship plenty of times. It's really not scary. Ghost sitings are very rare. You're not likely to see anything. Just enjoy the ship for its architecture and history.

    It wasn’t room 340, but actually they were strangled in Room B474.

    • @AlextheHistorian
      @AlextheHistorian  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But the thing is, there was never anyone strangled aboard the ship. The man who murdered his family did it in England at their home. They were never even booked on Queen Mary, they had nothing to do with the ship.

    1st, liked the vid.
    Second: So, not even kidding... Yesterday I was a bit tired and hadn't had as much sugars or caffeine as I'm used to. Long story short... I was certain I kept seeing a wolf following me out of the corner of my left eye frequently.
    I promise... There was no wolf. Not where I was. The problem... Was that I'd had too little Coke and I have a SERIOUS Coke (yes, Coke A Cola) habit I'm trying to kick... hence the too little sugars and any other uppers. Basically... I was having hallucinations due to drug withdrawals that happen from that particular combo.
    How was your diet that day? You've got the right idea though... YOU can't explain it. Nobody may EVER be able to explain what YOU saw at THAT time. It was probably a sign you hadn't something you're used to so you're senses have you extra on edge to keep you safe while in a "strange place" which is also where paranoia comes from. Those who freak out... had ancestors who survives some bad juju. Spooky it isn't.
    Wait... Was that a wolf again? I... Should go.

    I don't mean to get into semantics, but usually when I hear the word, "religious," there's an angst behind it. It's sad that there are people out there who see Christianity and Christians as bigoted when so many of us seek to spread God's love. And many of us believe in spiritual warfare, but I've met many who believe in ghosts who are far from "religious" or who believe in God. It's true, it probably has a background in monotheism, ghosts. And I know you didn't specifically say that those who believe in God are bigoted. I don't want God's name to be associated with homophobia and racism (I wonder how it's associated, at least to some degree, with racism, probably because some people who are racist are "God believing" - ugh) and dos and donts. But don't be quick to jump to the possibility of there not being spiritual realities. Science and a higher being are closer than you think. They complement each other.
    And I really enjoy your videos. This comment is meant to bring up what I think.

    • @AlextheHistorian

      Thanks Matthew, believe me the comment I made was only a generalization that most atheists don't believe in ghosts because they immediately associate it with meaning that if they believed in ghosts, that they'd have to believe in heaven or hell, which is not how I view things.

      @@AlextheHistorian *Sigh of relief. In today's world (though I'm sure it's always been the case in one way or another), bringing up topics and sharing where you stand seems so difficult what with how sensitive and easily triggered things are (which has it's good as well as it's bad) today. It's so encouraging that we are able to discuss sensitive topics soundly and reasonably and respectfully. It's like traffic on the freeway. The traffic jams are freed when people get a little further apart to allow cars to shift lanes rather than tightly tailgating one another (I just thought of that example. You can totally steal it).
