yes they are, but tha doesn't necesarily make them top 10...you have to be more than a great musician or bamd to be top 10...you have to be an artist...a genius that truly pioeneered something new...look at the beatles...they took music that seemed relatively simple and crafted it into art. i've been to the museum of the beatles in Liverpool and honestly...it is a true mind opener. they are the reason musicians respect Britian.
I'm an Englishman so maybe I'm a bit biased here, but it is amazing what a huge impact our little island, off the west coast of Europe, has had on the world. One of the things that surprises me the most is how successful we've been in producing music in the American genre - because rock music was definitely an American invention.
Lots of great bands to come out of Birmingham - one band not mentioned on this list is The English Beat as they were known in America whereas we knew them as The Beat - Mirror in the Bathroom is fab. You can't beat a bit of Two Tone Ska.
They're not mentioned because they didn't make anywhere near the number of record sales to qualify, which is what I imagine this list is based on? 100% Maiden should have been on this list, they've long proved their longevity so to be just an honorable mention I don't know why but man that irked me more than anything else. Fun video and that shirt is 🔥 love from the UK JT 🙂
Maiden are amazing, but they would never have the mass appeal of the bands on this list. People either love Maiden, or they hate them. They have an unbelievably huge and dedicated fan base, but it's not like Queen or Beatles or the Stones where you would hear their music on TV shows and playing in shopping malls, or in the doctors office. But saying that, neither are Sabbath, but they made the list. But Sabbath are probably the most influencial metal band of all time.
@@loganjukes8820 Sabbath are there because of the influence they've had on rock worldwide. Maiden have earned their place in the top 10 for fan base and longevity alone. As much as I love the Clash they were only a hit for a couple of years in the US.

London Calling. Massive iconic tune and the album has the mist iconic album cover of all time. Dark side of the Moon aint nothing compared to that cover. It's listed in so many books as the best cover of all time. And then you have all the t shirts too.

Radiohead The Kinks (I know they got banned from the US) Sex Pistols Technically not bands but David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Elton John, and Elvis Costello (they didn't play solo)

Rock was deliberately killed off by the UK record industry in the early 90s. No one post Def Leppard had any success in the UK unless they were heavily promoted by their American record labels. So Bon Jovi and Guns and Roses still got sales.

I actually prefer the song 'London Calling' by the Brighton Mod band The Lambrettas! Though they share a title, they're two very very different songs, & The Lambrettas deserved a much bigger airplay, but they weren't considered as 'cool' as The Clash. Iron Maiden were robbed here, incredible band who are still making great music to this day.
yes they are, but tha doesn't necesarily make them top 10...you have to be more than a great musician or bamd to be top 10...you have to be an artist...a genius that truly pioeneered something new...look at the beatles...they took music that seemed relatively simple and crafted it into art. i've been to the museum of the beatles in Liverpool and honestly...it is a true mind opener. they are the reason musicians respect Britian.
I'm an Englishman so maybe I'm a bit biased here, but it is amazing what a huge impact our little island, off the west coast of Europe, has had on the world. One of the things that surprises me the most is how successful we've been in producing music in the American genre - because rock music was definitely an American invention.
Wrong ! Rock'n'Roll was American..Rock was that sound distilled and is most definitely a British " invention".
I believe 'Rock' originated in the Birmingham & Sheffield areas of England, simultaneously, in the late 60's!! 🤣
You guys saying rock was invented in the uk can you elaborate on that cos i thought it was usa that first started it.
The expression goes - " America invented Rock n' Roll.....then the Brit's showed them how it SHOULD be done!" 😉
Britain took the blues and turn it into rock.
I'd have put Queen above the police but then again, Queen are my favourite band . They got me into music way back in 1974
Cure live in '95 is in my top5 gigs of all times.
Where are The Moody Blues - big in the USA?
Don't understand how Queen is number 8 when they're played in practically every sports arena at some point across North America probably every week.
Lots of great bands to come out of Birmingham - one band not mentioned on this list is The English Beat as they were known in America whereas we knew them as The Beat - Mirror in the Bathroom is fab. You can't beat a bit of Two Tone Ska.
Don't forget the mighty mighty Duran Duran
GREAT band - not the longevity of hits
ELO as well.
Isn't The Beat and the English Beat essentially two different bands/line-ups?
They're not mentioned because they didn't make anywhere near the number of record sales to qualify, which is what I imagine this list is based on?
Though why neither The Bee Gees nor Fleetwood Mac appear is rather baffling, as I thought they were both massive, Stateside.
(And yes, I love a bit of two-tone. 🖤🤍 Also, saddens me that _Madness_ and _The Jam_ didn't quite cross over)
You always, always brighten my day. You're so full of positive energy.

There's hundreds, if not thousands of UK acts that never broke the USA charts, but still had huge, successful careers around the world............because America is just one country, & if you have success everywhere, apart from one country, you're doing pretty good!!
Let's have a list of American acts that were/are massive in America, but unheard of everywhere else, I bet there's a ton of them!! 🤣
Good list but I think you'll find "The Knack" are American !
Yeah I was shocked to learn that too !
Great list x
Led Zepplin is my No#1 band ever since i was 12yo...& I'm now 52yo & 3rd-gen Australian (w Irish/Cornwall ancestry)...Love your channel JT
They were a great covers band that`s for sure.
It's Zeppelin, not Zepplin!
Oh wow, really enjoyed this one. My favourites were in the top 5 though. Bloody brilliant diverse sounds

@@ebbhead20 Yes, Rolling Stone once rated it the 39th best cover of all time. One place above the Elvis Presley cover it was ripped-off from.
You just need to look at the bands that didn't make the list to see how great the UK's contribution to music has been.
Radiohead
The Kinks (I know they got banned from the US)
Sex Pistols
Technically not bands but David Bowie, Eric Clapton, Van Morrison, Elton John, and Elvis Costello (they didn't play solo)
This could easily have been a top 25 and there wouldn't have been much of a drop in quality. Even throw in some of the more modern stuff like Coldplay and Muse.
these are classic bands, radiohead are still modern era.
Sade, Dire Straits, Duran Duran, Genesis, Pet Shop Boys, Fleetwood Mac…the list goes on!
This list needs part 2...Sex Pistols, Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac, The Kinks and etc.
What's going on, where's Jethro Tull, Wings, Oasis, Genesis, Coldplay, Deep Purple, Fleetwood Mac and Dire Straits. Also don't forget there's David Bowie, Peter Gabriel, Phil Collins, George Michael, Bee Gees, Elton John and Rod Stewart to name but a few.

Yeah.. They tend to think its a one country deal. Nah, its more a 30 country deal bro. I would take Robbie Williams fame over most US acts if it was about making money.
It's a big deal, because it's a big audience of english speakers that bands can reach out to. (allthough plenty non english speakers still listen to english music) It all comes down to money. You'll make more money if you crack america because there's more people there.

I would say the Cure are underrated if anything, they have some great tunes.
But there is a reason the Beatles are always number 1, its because no one comes close, there are some great bands out there and some bands have made a number of amazing tunes, but no band has made the amount of classics the Beatles have.
True and no one was more influential than them. They pretty much inspired everyone and anyone that came after them, whether that was deliberately or inadvertently!
Feel like Coldplay could've at least had an honourable mention on this, one of the biggest bands of the century.
Queen should have been second place, they are absolutely legendary.
NO!
Queen is legandary for sure. But the band isn't better than Led Zeppelin. You can argue with Pink Floyd and The Rolling Stones but certainly behind Led Zep and The Beatles.
I believe this list is based on record sales. All the bands higher than Queen have simply sold more.
Led Zeppelin ripped off so many of their songs from smaller musicians I just don't see them as any kind of great band anymore. Pink Floyd, though, yeah. But Queen is miles better than Zep on integrity. @@hazza9595

In fact, they were always bigger in the US than they were in the UK. BTW, Iron Maiden have released their first studio album in 6 years and it's vying for No. 1 in the UK with someone else (Drake, I think?)
Rock was deliberately killed off by the UK record industry in the early 90s. No one post Def Leppard had any success in the UK unless they were heavily promoted by their American record labels. So Bon Jovi and Guns and Roses still got sales.
