The fact that he talked so openly with the police is probably really helpful to those studying serial killers and why/how they do what they do. Most of them seem unwilling to admit or share any information.
I find the fact he crossed racial boundaries fascinating. Serial killers usually kill within their own race so jes unusual on that sense aswell as being a sick mofo. He LOVED talking about his crimes like a true phsycopath.
@@Lizzie-h3jhe was a black guy that looked white. White guys don't usually go with street prostitutes. This is the deep south. A lot of supposed white looking folks have a black grandparent.
Some are only controlling over their victims, others are in general sensitive to control. To them, disclosing any information is like handing over control to another person. Israel Keys is a good example of the latter. To have maximum control he committed suicide in jail. Smart psychopaths will try to flee a situation they think they might not be able to control, as a last restort so at least they'd have control over their self determination. It's baffling.
His poetic way of describing himself and his crimes is truly obnoxious. It makes it seem like it wasn't a compulsion, but something he was doing recreationally to make himself seem more interesting to himself and others. He was so excited to talk about it, like he knew people would be shocked and also impressed by his intellect and reflections.
Well if you think about it, it's probably the first time he was actually able to talk about it so openly with anyone. I'm sure he had been wanting to talk about it to someone for years. I'm not excusing what he did, just trying to think of why he might be so excited to talk about such violent brutality.
I watched the short documentary about this nut job. His partner claimed to be shocked, as they usually do, but I believe her. They had an odd relationship and he's definitely weird. It just sickens me to think about that creep stabbing an 81 year old woman 50 times, along with all the other women he killed. It just shows once again, you can't read a psycho by it's cover.
I tend to believe her too. She's bit odd. I think he just saw from that first date that he could manipulate her fairly easily for whatever reason. People give her so much sh*t for continuing to live in that house but like... she didn't have money. I think she's got a disability maybe? Idk, she was working part time at a convenience store at some point tho. But that house was paid for. I don't really blame her. Also, some people just aren't going to be bothered by the history of a specific place in that way. Like if you ask me vs my bff if we'd accept a free house that's in decent shape and in a good location but someone died or was killed there... my bff wouldn't go anywhere near that house, but I'd take it in a heartbeat.
Conversation stopper 15:01 “I’m a homicidal maniac. I don’t mean to be...” The well-rehearsed, earnest folksiness of his delivery has a chillingly calculated, charismatic edge. Scarier in some ways than openly hostile speech.
I saw a documentary about him on Tubi. The story was told by his then girlfriend. She had no idea about him and said he was always kind and considerate of her. Makes you wonder who you can trust. Another good one, Mike!
Dennis Rader (BTK) married in '71 and lived his secret serial killer life undetected by any family member for over thirty years. One guy lived his life in Israel, married a Jewish woman who had survived the Holocaust. They were married for over fifty years. Just when he died, his wife found out that he was never the former British World War II soldier he had claimed to be. He was a German and a former SS-man.
Well, him saying he was not angry at these victims; kinda weird; You would think there was something that set him off. So it was pure opportunity, the motive.
I'm from Baton Rouge and I remember seeing these news clips when I was a little girl. Women were terrified to go anywhere alone after dark. Even though the victims were older, my mother and neighbors would tell us to go inside if we were riding our bikes too late. Scary times at the height of the murders. People still talk about it, believing that Lee was pinned for some of the murders that Gillis committed and vice versa and that there are more women but shotty investigation and little evidence left those unsolved. *sigh* Mike I promise you if you go down the Baton Rouge area rabbit hole you'll have content for weeks.
Those were some dark days... my wife was a home-health nurse, and my office was almost entirely women (all of whom were like my family)... if someone called in sick, our administrative assistant would tell us as soon as we came in so we wouldn't be worried. Just tragic.
That's so sad. It was such a nice place back when I lived in Holden (early 80's). They were building this really cool place on the river called Catfish Town. My ex worked on it. Shit that's a long time ago.
@cjgia4898 it's night and day difference in that area now, completely gone down. I've moved over a parish and even though I'm still close to Baton Rouge, I only go if I have business to attend to. Sad.
@@sheenawilliams3672 That really bums me out. I haven't been back to LA since '84. I lived in Natchitoches before Holden. You've got a beautiful state and I'm so bummed that these things are happening, but honestly it's everywhere. I'm in Pittsburgh area now and well, it's bad too. As my mama says, the whole world is nuts. Lol
Mike, thank you for reliably providing us with another story! Breaks my heart what's going on in Ireland at the moment.. I've lived there a while ago and a piece of my heart never left. Be safe and take care.. Because we love you!
I’ve friends in Ireland and they’re keeping me up to date with what’s happening, a couple live in Dublin where all the riots are happening and I’ve given the genuine offer that they can cross the sea to Scotland and stay at mine if they need to, my Glasgow friends have made the same offer (I’m further north so Glasgow is closer). I just hope everyone is able to stay safe in Ireland
Whoever found the body with her eyelids sliced off must have carried that image with them for the rest of their lives. A corpse with bloody eyes staring blankly out at nothing would be terrifying.
Terri, Sean’s Girlfriend, gives me the creeps! I’ve watched a few interviews she gave after he was caught. She kept the car that Sean used to kill/transport victims in. She gave a tour of the home they shared and gave special attention to the kitchen floor on which he’d dismembered at least one victim on. Her demeanor in the interviews was really odd and she talked about how Sean called her “hunny bunny”. I can’t even begin to imagine how messed up anyone would be, mentally, after discovering that someone you loved was a serial killer…but I think something was WAY off with her long before she even met Sean. The woman is scary.
To be fair, it was probably the people interviewing her putting the focus on the kitchen floor and things like that. I think she just didn't know what to do or feel like she had other options. She was on disability I think? Living in a paid for house. They dropped the car back off there and she just kind of left it in the backyard to rot (would have cost money to get rid of it). She just doesn't seem fully mentally there in one way or another. Which is something that would make it easier for someone like SVG to manipulate her. So that makes sense in my mind. Also, some people just aren't bothered by the history of a place. Especially when it comes to basic needs like housing. Idk. Like if there's a house for sale and if it's in good shape/in my budget/in the right location, but someone got murdered there 15 years ago (not quite the same situation, I know), I wouldn't have an issue living there. On the other hand, my bff, she likely wouldn't come near the place, much less stay even a single night in it.
@@countryrat6t6 that's not one of the richest parts of the country and she *does* appear to a little "off". Can't afford to move, can't afford to get rid of the car, might as well try to squeeze a bit of juice out of those lemons. Besides it's not like she'll ever be able to lose the stigma and the association with him
Good episode, Mike. I spent my childhood in Louisiana not far from Baton Rouge. I felt safe then but it was the 1960s. Clearly, the area has changed. I will never un-hear “Baton Rouge is the city with the most serial killers in the country.” Yikes!

How is it that this sick psychopath is in "protective custody" on taxpayer dollars. What sort of protection were his victims afforded,? 😢. Thank you Mike for bringing these stories to us. RIP to alll the victims
I was in college and grad school at LSU, and I worked right around the corner from Gillis' house. I walked home all the time. My friend lived a couple of doors down from DTL's first victim on Sharlo.
Was having such a bad day then looked down at my pbone to see That Chapter, my most favorite channel. Your channel has kept me distracted through literally the hardest times in my lifie the last couple years so thank you so much!!❤
What a truly sick puppy this guy was. Thankfully, the guy didn't have any kids! Amazing video on yet another serial killer I wasn't familiar with, so thanks!! Happy weekend, Mike, and hope it's an awesome one. See all you fine people Tuesday for another chapter in Mike's book! Love ya, Mike and be well 😊
Yikes! I moved to Baton Rouge in 2000 when I was around 12. I didn't realize this had happened! Just clicked to watch another That Chapter video like always in my BR office and wasn't expecting this!
There was actually 5 serial killer’s active in Luisiana around the same time. Gillis, Derrick Todd Lee, Ronald Dominque, and then two lesser known serial killer’s. Crazy time in LA back then.
My grandmother died 5 years and i adored her when she was alive and i could never fatham anyone harming her and thats what it feels like to me when someone harms a frail elderly woman that never harmed anyone in her life she could have been someone's mother and grandmother you would have to have to be entirely heartless to brutally murder such a person
Seeing Mike now without glasses makes watching older videos seem like I've watched him grow up from kid to man 😂 Always enjoy the content, Mike. Coz we love ya. 💙
Finally... the Ned Flanders of the serial killers. I lived in BR at this time and the fact they had multi serial killers at one time made things complicated. Everyone was super paranoid and freaked out. I feel sorry for his girlfriend. She is definitely on the spectrum, poor, and insanely traumatized.
That's so sad! My grandmother lives near there. It's truly scary. My grandpa's coworker was about to move out of town because how dangerous it had gotten, only to be killed and stuffed into his trunk. It was a recent story! I was shocked and so sad. They worked at Walmart together. My grandpa had a greeting job there.
Okay, my theory is that the moustache was sneaking out at night when he was asleep and murdering these women. When he found out he incriminated himself to cover for the moustache because, well, who doesn't love their moustache? That's why he was so eager to confess to it all. I tell you - that moustache is out there right now, living the life of Reilly and still a threat to women, while an innocent man rots in prison.
Reminds me of the movie Basket Case. Man was trying to hide and cover for his murderous, detached conjoined twin that was just a head with arms. He kept him in a basket. Very campy!
I absolutely love your content, on the couch relaxing with my dog after Thanksgiving leftovers with you video to watch is my kind of day. Thank you for everything you do and hope you have a great weekend. Love ya!
This was happening at the same time as Derrick Todd Lee was breaking into houses and annihilating women either leaving their bodies in the house or dumping them off a boat ramp…. The 2 were active at approximately the same time. It must’ve been absolutely horrendous to have lived there during all of this with not 1 but 2 and perhaps more serial killers active in the one state…
6:26 Nobody makes a good victim, but it really makes my blood boil when they choose helpless victims i.e. babies, children, and the elderly. 😢 Years ago, my then fiancé worked as a therapist at a physical therapy clinic. It was fairly small so we quickly became like family. The lady who owned it was very nice and caring. The apple didn't fall far from the tree as I met her mom at that year's Christmas dinner for the facility. She was a very sweet little old lady wearing one of the most beautiful fuzzy shawls I had ever seen. I asked where she had gotten it? I wanted to see if maybe I could go buy one for myself, as I loved it very much. She informed me a friend from back in Russia had made it for her, hence the beautiful handwork. We talked all through the night she even let me wear it when I got chilly. About a month or 2 later he came home with a box and said her mom had sent this for me. Confused, I opened it and much to my surprise, there was a shawl just as beautiful as hers. I cherished it, she had asked her friend back home to make me one! ❤ So about a year goes by and he calls me from work crying saying they are rushing her to the hospital it was first thing in the morning. I thought she was old maybe a heart attack or stroke...but no, much worse. A man had broke into her beachfront home in Ponte Vedra Florida and proceded to beat and r*pe her, not only physically but with kitchen/grilling utensils as well. I get sick just thinking about it. I was about 4'8" and 85 lbs soaking wet and she was smaller than me. This guy was huge. As a victim of r*pe myself, I can only imagine the sheer pain and terror she was in. She did survive but what animal does this to another human being? I'd love to run into him in a dark alley with my best friend. Love you too Mike! ❤
Hahaha I was on a That Chapter binge and didnt even realize i clicked on the latest video you released 😂 huge fan!! Love the content - keep it up Mike!
The way that man is describing taking lives, how self aware and honestly slightly charming? To me at least? It’s just wild. You’d think he was chopping it up with his friends how comfortable he is. Sending my love to all of the people affected by his actions, and it’s great as always to see you Mike.
That goes to show how people like him think. They usually just keep their thoughts to themselves. Society would benefit from learning more about the mind, mental illness, the effects of childhood trauma, etc. in order to hopefully prevent some of these horrific crimes. The thing is, most people would not be willing or able to listen to dark thoughts some children might have. We've got to start somewhere.
Its standard serial killer behaviour. Though some remain silent many enjoy gushing to the police, notice how he wanted to be thought of as a monster whilst being unable to accept that he hated the women. They try to build their own image up into something bigger than being the sad lonely men they are.
Your story telling is top notch considering the subject matter. But I have to say this was by far the sickest story you have ever told. Job well done! I'm glad they caught this a hole and I hope the families have some peace for the loved ones they lost
I watched a show a while back about him I feel So Bad for the girlfriend, Teri, she seems like a sweet person who’s had it rough in life and thought she’d found love and happiness…he wasn’t a monster to her just other people. Wow, people can Really Surprise You when you peel back the layers!!

Baton Rouge is a lovely town. I used to drive far to take my pets to the veterinary school clinics at LSU. Excellent place with super friendly, generous, down-to-earth people.
☠️ This monster is the very definition of “Psychopath” and because he looks so bland and appears to be normal and reasonably articulate….makes him scary as hell! This is an older case which I think I’ve seen in another crime documentary, it was particularly disturbing because he did not follow the normal (I should say usual, there’s nothing normal about this evil predator) characteristics of a serial killer. His victims were of different ages, some were sex workers others were not, his victim were different races, not all were strangers etc.. he was all over the board making him harder to catch and that much scarier! In summation, I’m relieved he was caught because he was a full blown murderer addict! Addicts can’t stop until incarcerated or dead 💀 !

The slapping story isnt really accurate, according to the girlfriend Terri Lemoine herself. She said in a documentary that the first date went very well and that things naturally progressed from there with no issues at all. She said the slapping story was to figure out if he was "safe enough to spend the rest of her life with", in her words - basically she wanted to test him to see if he'd react violently before she seriously committed to a long term relationship. She said that she started a fight and slapped him, on purpose, to see what his reaction would be. She said that "he stomped his foot and said "boys arent supposed to hit girls and girls arent supposed to hit boys - that's just the way it is". So, i figured i was safe."
That's the worst excuse/reason to hit a man I've ever heard of in my life. Wonder if she did that with all her bfs. I mean, obviously this guy was one sick puppy, but "testing" potential partners that way is gross; that just says that she wanted to make sure she could beat on him if she wanted to without any consequences 😒
Typical female behavior. "I was just committing assault and domestic violence to see if he would defend himself. When he didn't, I knew I could just walk all over him for the duration of our relationship." This is known as female "logic".
Aye. I read somewhere that one of the forensic analysts tasked with cataloguing the Toy Box Killer's, erm, stuff, spiralled into depression and killed herself soon after. Probably happens quite a lot in that profession.
I've lived in Louisiana since 1997 and was a teenager when he was caught...how did I never know about this guy? I remember Aileen Wuornos' execution discussed in my sophomore Civics class as it happened, reading about Robert Pickton getting caught, and the Jeff Davis 8 being featured on the news, but I never heard anyone talk about Sean Vincent Gillis or either of the other serial killers actively spreading terror just a _two-hour drive away._
He was killing at the same time as Derrick Todd Lee, and Derrick got All the News time. This was much quieter, I think because he killed prostitutes. I also live just outside of BR.
I'm not sure that I've ever been so excited as I just was with i seen "That Chapter 12 minutes ago"! Thanks for all your hard work, Mike. So many of us appreciate all that you do for our entertainment!
How does someone confess to all that and not get the death penalty? One of the few good things about Louisiana is capital punishment and yet the jury blew it.

I vividly remember being tormented by the Baton Rouge serial killers as a single woman living alone in the capital city! I had a townhome in Baton Rouge & walking from my car to inside my home was scary! These 2 sickos had the entire city on edge for months.
Once he started talking he didn't want to stop because he liked telling those horrific stories of murder, right down to how he did it and why....He liked listening to himself telling the police of his crimes as if it was something to be proud of.
Somehow fun? The entire time watching this I kept thinking how this guy was speaking as if he was imagining a script being written about his vile evil acts. This culture of making these people famous and giving value to these demons is not and will never be a good idea. @@Karenanne247
We moved onto his street right after they arrested him. The house was still covered in crime scene tape. At the time, I figured we were safest on that street, cause what are the odds of two serial killers living on the same street. The odds turned out to be greater than I expected. I remember there was a bridge fairly close to that part of town where they had found one of the victims, and her son put beads and crosses all over it til the whole thing became like a shrine to her. It was very touching.
Mike when you tell us stories in different states in America believe me I pretty sure I don't want to go and travel there, EVER! I remember this guy! I remember this story. He is, honestly, one of the most fascinating cases. Not just because of his crimes but because of the aftermath, how he talked about it when he got caught, how oblivious his wife was. What a totally normal person he seemed to be otherwise. Truly a case study for psychology of a psychopathic, sociopathic killer.
@@FrostRarewell it’s a difficult balance where you don’t want to stroke his ego but want to find out the inner workings of a killers mind, where you need to find that information out and what shaped him in life such as childhood, trauma as an adult, how he was treated by society, or if it’s mental illness telling him he’s doing “gods work”, or if it’s a deep hatred for women. Finding all of that out is important but man, it’s a hard balance to find all of that out and not stroke his ego where he feels like he’s reliving the horrific crimes he committed (especially if he gets gratification talking about them).
He's very similar to BTK when he also confessed. Completely unaffected by his actions, talking as if he was describing a routine day at the office. Proud of himself, it's creepy.

“I’m a homicidal maniac. I don’t mean to be...”
The well-rehearsed, earnest folksiness of his delivery has a chillingly calculated, charismatic edge. Scarier in some ways than openly hostile speech.
I saw a documentary about him on Tubi. The story was told by his then girlfriend. She had no idea about him and said he was always kind and considerate of her.
Makes you wonder who you can trust.
Another good one, Mike!
It's called compartmentalization.
Bundy did it too.
It’s astonishing how duplicitous people can be.

I can't imagine how terrifying that would've been for you. Three separate serial killers operating at the same time, that sounds like a nightmare.

She seems obsessed with him and of very very low intelligence.
My assumption is that she's more than a little medicated in the aftermath (couldn't blame her if she was/is, YOU try dealing with finding out your SO is a SK) and trying to make ends meet.
Can't afford to move, can't afford to get rid of the car, might as well try to squeeze a bit of juice out of those lemons.
Besides it's not like she'll ever be able to lose the stigma and the association with him

Sending my love to all of the people affected by his actions, and it’s great as always to see you Mike.
Cuttin' up a wee bit wit' dah boize, am I right?
That goes to show how people like him think. They usually just keep their thoughts to themselves.
Society would benefit from learning more about the mind, mental illness, the effects of childhood trauma, etc. in order to hopefully prevent some of these horrific crimes. The thing is, most people would not be willing or able to listen to dark thoughts some children might have. We've got to start somewhere.
You're not alone in thinking that! It's intriguing, and tbf the honesty IS refreshing until u remember what he did. Still...

Its standard serial killer behaviour. Though some remain silent many enjoy gushing to the police, notice how he wanted to be thought of as a monster whilst being unable to accept that he hated the women. They try to build their own image up into something bigger than being the sad lonely men they are.

Uh yeah still accurate. I saw his crazy a** gf’s interview too
That's the worst excuse/reason to hit a man I've ever heard of in my life. Wonder if she did that with all her bfs. I mean, obviously this guy was one sick puppy, but "testing" potential partners that way is gross; that just says that she wanted to make sure she could beat on him if she wanted to without any consequences 😒
Right... I'm sure that's exactly what happened.
Typical female behavior. "I was just committing assault and domestic violence to see if he would defend himself. When he didn't, I knew I could just walk all over him for the duration of our relationship." This is known as female "logic".

I feel bad for the detectives who had to examine his stash. And I bet his hidden trove of murder memorabilia was pretty gross too
I'm super tired and I interpreted "stash" as "mustache" and I was so incredibly confused lmao
Right. I could never do that type of job. The horrific images stuck in my mind would be too much.

Thanks!
I love the stuff you're doing and appreciate that you're working so hard!
Wow, 7,000 like 👍 in 7 hours. Just by coincidence I’ve been watching since you posted your very first video and back then you were still kind of finding your theme. You sure have come a long way since that first video I watched. Well done, you’re one of the best storytellers ever! Those first videos were spooky and kinda weird, if you remember. Your success is well deserved.
Sincerely,
Doc
I am so excited! Yeeted right on out of another video when I got the notification that Mike had just uploaded!
Happy Friday, Mike, and thanks for all you do!
Have a great weekend!
I've heard of Derek Todd Lee, but not the other two.
This guy is as sadistic as they come, isn't he?
In a way, I'm glad that he opened up about everything so that his victim's families would at least know who had murdered their loved ones.
My heart goes out to their loved ones, and may his victims rest in peace.
Got home late so just now watching this but better late than never. Crazy sad story.. prayers to the victims families
I'll leave out the part in which I tell you that I love your docs and your style in narrating them, accent included, I just wanted to say that I'm glad to see that whatever was happening to your beautiful face is resolved and gone now. In the past doc, you looked all red and puffy and shiny, like you were waiting the breakout of a sunburn, or as you were nursing some kind of allergy or enduring a cortison treatment. It worried me but I didn't want to intrude. Now it seems to be gone and I'm relieved. I care about you, you appear to be a real, compassionate, funny and good man, and your passion shows through. Much love from Italy! ❤❤❤
He looks like he enjoys telling people about his escapades; like he's really proud of himself.
I agree. How he says "the childhood." As if it was a celebrated thing.
Tragic and sick case (Who murders an 81-year-old?), but a great video Mike. I'm also quite curious about who else is on your Top 10 Scary Bastards list.
Also, I'm still with my thought that Bigfoot or the Yeti would probably off Mike.
Cause an older woman can't fight back. Then he got into the swing of things
Not only were those 3 SK active at the same time in BR. about an hours drive away in Houma Louisiana, Ronald Dominique was also active. He murdered 23 men and boys during his spree. Disgusting because I went to school at LSU and grew up about 15 mins away from Houma in my childhood.
The seasonal affectiveness disorder really needed this, thanks Mike!
th way shaun described slicing and killing his victim so casually almost jokingly gives me the shivers and really scares me. i was an iraqi tactical seargent with 3 tours and dont scare.easily.
