"Malaysian" = The Malays, the Chinese Malaysians + Indian Malaysians (who are born & bred here for generations) and other local tribes. So when u say "Malaysian food" it includes all these food from these ethnicities. So perhaps u meant "Malay food". There's a difference between Malay & Malaysians. Many foreign travelers make this (understandable) mistake thinking it's the same thing. Malay is a race, Malaysian is nationality

Please do not forget the minorities that make up Malaysia (not only Malay, chinese and the indian) i.e. .. Thais, the original people of West Malaysia and the dayaks/people of the land (i.e. bumiputra) in Borneo Island.

Guys, head to Penang (Island). If anything, I believe Penang is a mini Oahu that is cheaper and has better food. I love Penang so much, I got my visa and just bought a full oceanview condo for my retirement between Bay Area, California and Malaysia. Malaysia is highly underrated. English widely spoken, no guns, a medical care tourism destination, no earthquakes/hurricanes, super friendly folks, good infrastructure, favorable exchange rate, and last but not least awesome food. The street hawker foods are where it's at guys, not the mall cookie stands!!!!

eh... Malaysia is a mixture of many ethnicities, but 3 main races are Malay, Chinese and Indian.
There are many foreigners set foot here.
Hence, food wise, we are sort of cater for all cuisines around the globe.
If you gotta pick Malaysian foods, go for Chinese (non Muslim food choice), Malay foods & beverages which are Muslim Halal of non-porky, no alcohol, Indian foods are also non halal.
Some staper f&b marking Malaysian style - nasi lemak I.e. coconut milk cooked rice, with some local spicy gravy called sambal, and some simple sides, some places you can see pictures.
Signature local toasties with coconut base jam called Kaya with butter cutlet, it can do for steam Kaya Butter bread too.
Staper drink Teh Tarik = pulled tea, Milo = chocolate malt milky drink. local coffee we call it Kopi in malay or locally, it can be without milk Kopi O , with milk just Kopi, all drinks can order Less Sweet/Less Sugar like I always do, in malay just says "kurang manis".
Another staper is Roti, people might be calling it flying pan cake😅, Roti has many variety so it depends what do you want, simplest plain one call Roti Canai, with Egg call Roti Telur, telur is malay language for egg, you can have Roti banana at some places too😊
    List is too long 😂😂😂😂

Hey guys. Just want to share a bit of info. Chinatown in KL is kinda underwhelming compared to the ones you have in Western countries because Malaysia or KL has a huge Chinese population. So their populations are spread out all over the country. There isn't much of a concentrated Chinese area. There is also a huge Indian population here. So you will see tons of Indian food as well spread all over the city. If u r looking for street foods, go to Jalan Alor instead or Kampung Bharu if you are looking for Malay food. Also Malaysians usually mean Malay + Chinese + Indians. The same thing as in America, Americans means White + Black + Latino + Asians and so on. Malaysia is very diverse racially. The Malays are the majority population & the Chinese & Indians are the minority but sizable population. The Chinese & Indians have been here for hundreds of years & many are born here, they aren't immigrants (Well most of them anyway). When u mentioned Malaysian food, I believe u meant "Malay" food. Also KL doesn't become alive until night time because people want to avoid the heat 😂. The Bukit Bintang area are very2 busy during night time, it has somewhat of a Times Square vibe. Anyway welcome to Malaysia & enjoy your stay. ☺️☺️☺️.

Ah, how refreshing. I like tourist that have no idea what we have to offer. It's great that you went to Central Market first. Most tourist just went straight to Pavillion or KLCC.
Btw, we love food. That's why we have lots of food here. And yes, there's a lot of dessert type of foods. We Malaysians have separate stomach for sweet food.
And that ratio 25% of tourist? That's because you went to a tourist specific mall in the middle of city center. There's too many mall in Kuala Lumpur's suburb alone, we locals don't bother going into city center to shop.
Come again and spend more time, we have lots to offer, especially outside of KL
