The tornado warnings are the ones that really scare me. I've been afraid of tornadoes since Kindergarten. I'm 31 years old now, and I'm still afraid of tornadoes.

The only amber alert I’ve ever gotten was an alert for two missing girls who apparently went missing when the parents weren’t home. 5 minutes later it was followed by a message saying it was a false alarm and they just went to play with the next door neighbors kids. Like bro, freaking check with the neighbors before calling the police

It's supposed to be a tone that is clear to identify and not to be hidden by other sounds. That's why it's so horrible as it's not supposed to be a normal or common sound

I've always had a fear of the unsettling eas noises when I first heard them. To this day bring 16 years old, I am still somewhat scared of them. But I watch videos on the noises to get more use to them so that I'm aware of the sound.

The noises still send chills down my spine, even when I know they're coming. When younger, they'd sometimes wake me up in the middle of the night when I didn't turn off the TV before falling asleep.
But hey, the EAS accomplished their goal. It definitely gets your attention.

One time, we had a really bad wind storm in my area. My family was out of the house but I was home working on homework. My dad has a weather radio that started blaring the warning alarm for a tornado. In instances like that, I always prepare for the worse. I grabbed my pillow and hurried to the bathroom, my dogs followed me cause I wasnt gonna leave them behind if a tornado dropped. *But apparently the warning alert was a test.* *_Who the hell runs a weather test during a STORM_*

I remember a few years ago, my friends had stayed over and we were up late so we were extremely tired in the morning, we got an amber alert saying that something happened to the nuclear power plant not too far from us and we probably needed to evacuate, but we were so tired that we ignored it and went back to sleep. A few hours later we got another alert saying it was a false alarm 😞

On the morning of Saturday, January 13, 2018, a ballistic missile alert was accidentally issued via the Emergency Alert System and Wireless Emergency Alert System over television, radio, and cellphones in the U.S. state of Hawaii. The alert stated that there was an incoming ballistic missile threat to Hawaii, advised residents to seek shelter, and concluded: "This is not a drill". The message was sent at 8:07 a.m. local time. Civil defense outdoor warning sirens were not authorized by the state.
Thirty-eight minutes and 13 seconds later, state officials blamed a miscommunication during a drill at the Hawaii Emergency Management Agency for the first message. Governor David Ige publicly apologized for the erroneous alert. The Federal Communications Commission and the Hawaii House of Representatives launched investigations into the incident, leading to the resignation of the state's emergency management administrator.

One time, we had extreme storms all day. At about 7:00, I was watching TV in my room and my iPhone played that emergency alert sound for a tornado warning. I have always been terrified of tornadoes, so you can imagine me being terrified when I looked out my window and saw all of the skies were very dark. Luckily, there was no tornado, but I think that was the most scared I have been while home alone.

During an assembly at my school a couple months ago, everyone’s phones went off with emergency alerts at the same time warning us of a fire evacuation nearby, ironically during a performance by a classmate of mine where they were singing the Dr. Strange song about the universe ending. Didn’t help that every light but the spotlight was off when it happened.

I am EXTREMELY afraid of eas alerts. Whenever there is a severe thunderstorm warning on TV, I literally jump from the couch and run 🏃💨 to my bed.
When I was younger, I was watching PBS kids at my abuela's house and these amber alerts came on but it was a small TV I was watching it from and the volume was kinda lowered but it was still terrifying to me

In retrospect it makes sense why the EAS is creepy, the EAS (emergency alert system (the tool used to broadcast the alerts)) is designed to get alerts out as quick as possible , even if it comes at a creepy cost. And the harsh tones at the beginning/end are encoded with alert info and info on where the message should go, so you best believe they aren't going to change it any time soon.

The only time I have expected a EAS alert when something was legitimately wrong was in 2017. It was during Hurricane Harvey . I was with my mom going to my grandparents house for some reason. We were listening to the radio when it came on and warned of the Hurricane's floods and high winds . I was pretty shook afterward.
I get them on my phone a lot about wildfires and I'm always worried my house will be in the evacuation zone
