    I've been using Goosen line for 4years here in Australia. Absolutely brilliant. Casts so smooth and abrasion resistance is surprisingly good given its so fine. The most critical issue to be mindful of is your knots. Very important to make sure they are sinched well or they will.slip. I.use it in both fresh water on Cod and also salt water light game . Just very expensive

    Abrasion resistant on this is excellent. Been using this for bream across rocks and oysters. Never had an issue.
    Upside to the 16x is the diameter and waight for a 20# line. Thus inturn improves on casting distance.

    Info from the EBay website: The GOSEN 16 ply braid is made from Toyobo fibres from the Izanas company in Japan. It is currently the only 16 ply on the market. This new Toyobo material is stronger than high grade Dyneema. The 16 strands make this line stronger than any 8 ply on the market, it is high in water resistance, has incredible knot strength, a high braiding density, it is extremely smooth, incredibly sensitive to bites and is a great balance between stiff and soft line making it perfect for casting. The 16 ply manufacturing process makes this line perfectly round so it is forgiving on your line guides. The line is made in the GOSEN line factory in Japan.

    How would you say it stacks up against Seaguar Smackdown? That's the best readily available braid I've found. Super thin and smooth, quite a bit of color fading and limpness on the green color after fishing it for a couple months, but zero issues with the grey color surprisingly. I'll have to try to find some of this Gosen.

    Greetings from upsidedown land. I still use gliss 90 percent of the time when im using braid. I stocked up when the price was good. Yes it has durability issues but its the best i can find in terms of value and bfs friendly fishability. Might give this gosen stuff a go if I can find some on special.

    Thanks for your channel, I have learned much. Was hoping you might be able to help me. I have started using braid for the first time: Sunline Small Game PE-HG 0.15 2.5lb, The line frequently is wrapping around the guides during casting, especially the first guide (closest to reel) but sometime higher up. Also I notice that my jig is often helicoptering. Your tutorial on tying the FG Knot made it possible for me to use this knot on this super fine and slick line, and has made all the difference with the micro guides on my rod.

    My favorite slick feeling braid is the seaguar smackdown 8 strand in 40lb. With the 30lb I've had the overhand knots you referred to. I thought the seagaur was pricey that's just next level. I would have to be a winning tournament angler to even consider 100$ braid.

    Great fan of Gosen, but I've only ever used the 8 weave... Supa soft and supa slinky while still retaining excellent abrasion resistance... casts a mile.

      The gosen 8 casting and 8 hard casting are some of the best on the market (hence the price) but this stuff is levels above again....you have to feel it to believe it... I laughed at the guy in the tackle store when he told me the price...then he told me to just run it through my fingers......It was then that I took out my wallet and bought it. Never regretted it either🤷‍♂️💯

    Was able to get my hands on some Gosen 16 20lb and was stoked to get it out on the water for the day to experience the hype. Smoothest casting braid I've ever experienced... incredible distance..BUT.... I also snapped off on 4 different casts...FOUR. Didn't have anything crazy tied on (1/4oz t-rig senko) but as soon as you get the SLIGHTEST overrun, kiss you're lure goodbye. Was really disappointed this kept happening. The 4th failure was intentional as I was trying to test if it was my knot (Palomar) given the first 3 times the line snapped I was running straight braid to the hook. I decided to try and replicate the problem with a fluoro leader (used FG knot).
    Knocked the brakes down to 4 on the Steez sv tw to get some minor fluff ups on the spool and, once again, it snapped....but it didn't snap at the FG knot, it snapped somewhere else on the line. I dunno. So far it's a love- hate with the 20lb flavor of this stuff....but I've got 33lb on the way as well so maybe that will fair better.

    • @TackleAdvisors

      Woah.. That's strange.... I have it on the same reel too... Bad guide maybe? Scratch on the twing? I'd send a message to gosen... I've yet to get an over run break off (I get em with j braid grand and fireline Ultra 8 as an example)

  • @piscamaniac
    @piscamaniac 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Smoothest compared to what? Have you tried diawa morethan 12 braid? I use gosen wx8 hard type, its very nice line but also a lot flatter braid with less body than daiwa tournament evo or the morethan braid. In my experience nothing beats diawa for roundest profile braid, which ultimately makes morethan the smoothest braid ive tried, great body too but not quite as stiff as tournament evo.

    Well I just got my Gosen 16 in the mail today, I have to say it's absolute garbage !! When u first look at it, it looks amazing ( smooth and stiff ). The big problem is that it has NO strenght !!! I orderd the 20lbs ( max ) at 150 mm diameter. All my 4 lines tests broke at 6 lbs !!! I know that when it says on the package that it has a strenght of 20lbs (max ) it means that the maximum strenght is 20lbs. But I was still expecting a 10-12lbs average ! Sufix 832 and J-Braid Grand 10lbs all break at approx 16-18 lbs. The world's most expensive line is the weakest ?? Still love the reviews from Tackle Advisor, but I think a line test would be a thing to include in the videos !!

      Check the magnets on the carrier... Make sure they're all seated... Especially if you added one (or the previous owner did... If all the mag spots are occupied then they added the extra mag. What lbs braid do you use?
    Does it dig in the sv spool when u backlash?

    Some of the people on bass resource say the braid cuts into the t-wing and breaking it

    • @TackleAdvisors

      Everything from 2lb to 50...never had an issue. Spool up super tight and dig ins only happen on snag pull outs. Dig ins when backlash ing means ya gotta work on casting :).. So be aware of that when you choose your breaking strain. And its got great knot strength too, contrary to whats been implied on this video.

      I'm not a grand fan.. Used 6lb 8lb 15 and 30 and 40....failures on the light stuff and premature fuzzing on the heavy.... So I can't say much good about it other than it handles well, casts well on spinners and knots well... It's also fairly slick... The gosen in comparison is noticeably slicker and tougher at least in the 20lb line I've used... If it wasn't so damn expensive I'd put it on all my reels where I wanted a non coarse textured line

    I feel if you going to test 16 strand Gosen or any premium line. It should be in landbased game situation. We're you having to try stop bigger kings or Gt over tricky terrain e.g. ledge or kelp were you need to stop big fish or turn big predators before being ledged. A 4 strand J braid will do in a pond were you hardly have to apply any pressure.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      HUH? I don't wish to be rude...but 4 5 6 8 12 etc the amount of carriers woven into a braided fishing line. Don't impact it's strength at all whatsoever.....a 4 strand work on GT too....and has for for a long time. The crazy high pick count braids that are super smooth...exist only for enjoyment....(non hollow core ) And spooled tight...round vs ribbon...dig ins aren't a problem.

    • @karmijacobson1077

      @@TackleAdvisors to me what you doing is not a field test of this line capabilities? Standing buy a stream and casting gosen and saying how smooth it is and how round it is does not tell much about the lines capabilities ? I use this Gosen 8 strand casting so I no what it's like in the harshest of condtions. Casting hundreds of times a day and fighting pelagics that are looking for structure. Is in my mind a good test for braided lines?. I no carrier strands don't account to strength.But I am yet to find Gt fisherman that are not using 8 strand lines.
      I fished many premium Japanese lines over the years.I would want to no as a consumer how it holds up in the harshest situations and video show casing this would be beneficial. But maybe I am wrong. Thank u..

    too funny having that steez on a shimano rod. up to $100 for 150 yds, first thought was no bueno, but if it's going to last a yr and still appear brand new then it's something to consider. otherwise, maxcuatro it is. i like sufix832 as it's stronger than all the others, but it does go limp and opens the door for wind knots. and i agree, there's still not a better baitcaster on the market than the daiwa steez sv tw 2016.

So smooth and quiet. I fish the great lakes so I'm targeting all trout, salmon and everything in-between and I like the 15# the most for open water. 10# may be the key tho. Especially with spinning reels on daiwa ballistic LT 3000D and 2500s. V2 is nice on the tatula sv-tw. I can't see myself spending 100$ for 150 yards especially when we get spooled here.

      AndrewLetit FlowWolf. Well that doesn’t make any sense because maxcuatro is a 4x carrier braid and it’s like 30 dollars. The gosen 16 I believe has a higher strength to diameter with it having a breaking strength of 20lb with the same diameter as 10lb powerpro SSV2 and it’s a 16 carrier braid. Keep in mind I don’t think there is any braids in America that do 16 carriers braids. Gosen only have 150m and from 20 to 41lb becuase of how long it takes to fill one spool, probably weeks for just one spool of line. It’s sucks that it’s expensive, but if you know how it’s made and it’s features it makes more sense.

    Well kids, I just received the 23# test and the 41# test Gosen 16. Stripped the 20# Power Pro off the Abu MGXtreme to spool the 23 but made the mistake of not testing the strength of this super duper golden spider silk first. I tied some 30# mono doubled to a 10# dumbell, then the 23# Gosen. Three times the Gosen snapped above the doubled knot. The 41# snapped on a 20# dumbbell and even snapped on the 10# dumbbell with just the slightest jerk. EPIC FAIL, save your money! Yeah, it may be super slick but what good is that if an in shape crappie can break off.
    Tried again on the digital scale with the Gosen wrapped ten times around the thick metal loop on a velcro workout strap to isolate the uni knot, 11 pounds was the highest breaking point after several tries for the 23# and a whopping 23-24 pounds for the 41#. Gosen 41# to Daiwa J Braid 20# with an alberto knot, J Braid held and the Gosen broke above the knot.

      @@Huflung I have been using the 41 pound test as 20 pound line and it's everything this vid says it is. Effortless removal of any backlash, no fading or fuzzing, smooth and quiet. If you want a great 20 pound test line, in my personal experience the 41 works nicely. I still have the 23 which my testing showed to be around 10 pounds that I'll never spool unless going for small stuff, just tried it again with a double uni to 20 pound PowerPro using extra wraps as the Gosen is just so slick - the Gosen is noticeably thinner and broke first. Maybe I got a bad run (??) but IMO the Gosen break strength is just overstated for the diameter. For open water with no structure and a lighter drag setting it is hard to beat.

    • @DanTheFireman
      @DanTheFireman 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Huflung The 41 tested out for me at an average of 22 to 24 pounds break strength so I am using it where I would normally spool 20 pound PowerPro. I usually do a few Amazon trips a year and have lost twenty pound peacocks with that sudden violent jerk on 50 pound test braid with a four foot fluoro leader so I tend to spool heavier than most on everything, it sucks to work so hard for that big fish and then have it break off. Both the 41 and 23 Gosen that I got from an Aussie tackle shop in my tests broke at half the stated rating. I started to doubt manufacturer ratings a few years ago when "50 pound" split rings straightened out on fifteen pound peacocks in Brazil and Colombia. When I got home I tested those rings with a 30 pound dumbbell and they failed. Now I test everything and swap out factory hardware as needed. Again, the Gosen line is brilliant if you buy double the break strength for your needs. Hope that helps.

    • @Benjamin-S
      @Benjamin-S 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@DanTheFireman It might be because the way they set the break strength on some japanese lines are different to what we're used to. On PE lines it's common to take the individual PE thread and multiplicate its strength with ten. The number you get from that multiplication is what they set as breaking strength. It's very seldom true to the line's actual breaking strength. PE lines often has a greater breaking strength than what they market the line having. Now, Gosen claims they use a material stronger than Dyneema. Dyneema, if I recall correctly, isn't stronger than polyethylene (PE). If I do remember correctly, that would mean the material Gosen uses might not have a stronger breaking strength than polyethylene either. If they still use the "multiplicate the single strand with 10 method," the breaking strength might be less than what Gosen writes on the packaging. Breaking strength per diameter will also be drastically different when using this method on any line material. There's a real possibility that this is what Gosen has done here and why your test shows the breaking strength as being off.
