Stirchley! I Can't believe that the Co-op has gone either! I used to work at the Kwik-Save that was up the road from the Co-op, back in the 90's. I also remember that there was a "cat lady" person that lived in the house across from the Co-op, with countless cats in the house (judging by the number of cats in the windows) and a sheep (a live sheep) outside in the garden.

Thank you Ian, aside from the current cost a decent 2CV, this video has convinced me they are not for me. I will sit back in my warm comfortable chair with nice cup of tea and a biscuit and enjoy your trips in one. Well done Elly and a very well to you Ian.

Pointless trivia: I played a chimney sweep urchin on a float in the Pershore Carnival in the late 1970's. I wore an oversized tweed jacket and soot smudges.
Trivia 2. I cycled from Hereford to Leominster once. Dinmore Hill. That was a challenge.
    Love these Travelogues.

I remember when the motor museum had the car park at the top with the Land Rover road train. That road train also took you to the Land Rover off road course and back to the top car park for go karting.
I am heading to France next week for the Le Mans weekend.

Visited Gaydon years ago, when there was a land rover experience that was a lot of fun as a passenger. The collection centre didn't exist and not as many exibits. Visited with my son last September and was amazed at how much it's grown. There was also Truckfest on as well. Will possibly be there again this September as we go to the National Mini Show at Lutterworth Hall.

I'm in Selly Oak and shop at the Morrisons. The Co-op ran down that store somewhat terribly in the latter years. The Morrisons is much better.
The garage where you got Ellie from is now a walkway to the new Battery Park over the canal.
I regularly cycle on the Pershore Rd, it's a nightmare with angry drivers like much of Birmingham now. I hate driving here :(

Thanks for bringing us along on the trip Ian. The Museum is definitely on my "must visit" list.
I saw and heard the XJR-5 racing at Mosport (now Canadian Tire Motorsport Park) back in the early 80's. What a sight and sound. I got a lesson on what not to do when the team was getting the car ready to race. I had crouched down behind the car to get a peek under the hood, with my head right between the exhaust pipes. Then the engine fired up. It was quite amusing for everyone else around the car...😁

Lovely video. Well done Elly, even if that hay trailer tried to give you a blocked nose... Thank you for the trip down Memory Lane, coming up 10 or 11 years ago from Kings Norton through Stirchley (then we'd branch left on to Warwards Lane and up over into Selly Oak to visit our daughter in her Birmingham Uni shared house). Doesn't look like much has changed! If you'd followed Warwards Lane and on, eventually you'd turn left and come to the railway yard area by Selly Oak station where you celebrated Elly's major mechanical rebuild when you first bought her.

I really appreciate the effort you put in making us feel we are along for the ride and the excellent content, can’t wait to see the next videos - love the XK120 😊. As a regular long distance driver covering 500+ miles a week, albeit in a car more comfortable and less noisy than Elly, I fully appreciate what you go through for the channel! The motorway segment reminded me of when I owned a Mini City 850cc and I drove from Leeds to Sunderland on the A1 back in the mid 80's. Always used to arrive in Sunderland a nervous wreck. Trying to overtake a lorry in that was well nigh impossible!

Pass through Stirchley quite often as it's on my bus route to town. Drank in that hotel once, when it was the 3 Horseshoes. Also was on the last bus home once (a MCW Metrobus Mk II) which ran out of fuel right outside the hotel - had to wait for a mobile refueller to come out and fill it up before the driver bombed it down the Pershore Road home!

Elly is a f**king awesome vehicle. She seems to be so much fun in so many situations. Reminds me of my old BX, which was slow, wallowy, unreliable and rattled all over, and I LOVED it. It was a blast to drive, a joy to look at and a challenge to keep running. In normal circumstances, I'd have considered it a nightmare to live with, but that's why we love weird cars, they make no sense yet we would absolutely never exchange them for anything else.

Another interesting road trip, as a former instructor I will be interested in seeing you mock test and Pims drive of Elly. Further nostalgia came from Stirchley as a Bordesley Green boy adventure was trips to Earlswood Lakes, all day on a bike! I remember the scrap yard on the corner of Dogpool Lane, very busy and how we laughed at those funny three wheelers up the road, but good to see that specialist still going.
