I grew up with BG1 and BG2.. in a way. English is not my first language so it took some years to really enjoy it, but those 2 games are my all time favourite. I play BG2 on a loop since it´s release. I love BG3, but for me it doesn´t surpass the BG2. I know it´s biased, but can´t help it. Really love BG2. Can´t get enough. Edit: also.. there is the best option for your wife, Viconia domi-mommy DeVir.
People praise BG2 like it's still the best CRPG ever. The writing is honestly subpar compared to Fallout or PST, plus the main story is almost as linear as IWD - it just has a bunch of side quests. And unlike BG1, you can't even freely explore the world. The only thing I'd say that BG2 holds up today is the high level mage duels, perticularly in SCS. Honestly PoE or Pathfinder surpassed BG in almost every other regard.

I did a BG1&2 EE playthrough just recently for BG3 can you believe I rolled a 96 on character creation. Anyway on my replay I noticed ToB was kinda not that great. but aside from that everything was cool. Oh I played SoD too. Would not recommend lol SoD was garbage. Edit: CRPG still means computer RPG lol no one uses the C for classic I feel like you just made that up also this melodious way you speak and your tone goes down at the end of everything you say sounds like a tiktok video.

Looking forward to this retrospective. BG2 tends to get overpraised due to it's historical legacy so I'm hoping for some balanced criticism.
