I don't always like this version of MJ or this version of Peter, but maybe that's the point. They're human. They let each other down and they hurt each other, sometimes in ways they don't mean to. They can't be together at the end of the first movie because of Peter's responsibilities as Spider-Man, and he can't tell MJ about it because his enemies will use her to get to him. Their relationship gets strained because Spider-Man and Peter can't be in two places at once. Peter has to choose, giving up the thing he wants the most (again) in the name of responsibility. Peter reveals his identity to MJ, but then says they can't be together. But MJ says "screw it" and decides she wants to be with Peter despite the potential danger. Usually at this point, it'd be smooth sailing, right? WRONG. Dating a superhero turns out to be really complicated and difficult. Peter kisses Gwen (as Spider-Man), which pisses off MJ. The line between Spider-Man and Peter starts to blur and, in her sadness, she gets close to Harry. The rift between them begins again and Peter has to look inward and figure out what he really wants for his life. She has to figure out that she still wants to be with him, too. In the end, they choose each other. Isn't that what love is actually like? Choosing to be with a person despite the pain they cause you and the mistakes they've made?

I like ALL the Spiderman's. They each have their own story and different personalities at the same time. But I must say looking back on this version it seems more depressing that the newer versions. Still good storylines. I just wish maybe Mary Jane got back with Peter. Their love story needed more in my opinion. Like I said still great movies though. I don't mean any hate.
