Congratulations mate! You are one of the winners for my Ultimate Soldering Practice Board :) Send me an email with your details so I can send them your way asap (mutefpv at gmail dot com)!
It was terrifying not knowing how to solder when building my first quad. This is a perfect way to give you confidence and test the tools and solder you have. Soldering is a rewarding skill to have!
Man this is the art of soldering. The editing on this is next level man, love the choice of music too. I may very well look into getting one of these. Nice job! :)
@@muteFPV keep it up man, always enjoyed your unique style and videos. You have a great way of making things both informative but also very enjoyable and interesting to watch. My favorite part of this was the way you coordinated the soldering to the music and how the video had a really nice structure to it overall.
Excelent job. This board is great for all who are afraid of soldering :D And building and fixing their fpv drones :) Thank you for the giveaway. And big thanks to PCB way for meaking this project possible. :)
Thank you! Just to be clear, it is not a product. I have shared the design and anyone can order it (for personal use) straight from the PCB manufacturer :)
Awesome piece (looks hot!) I didn't like the music, but yet I'm nodding with my head and are enjoying it right now. Gonna watch it again couple of times while working on some stuff here. Man, your videos aren't boring at all, love the edit style. Stay safe man. And good luck with your business.
It's been too long since I've seen one of your vids, but I'm still a huge fan of your style. idk if they're all this good now, but damn @4:18 you've got the pads on your drawings running like a sequencer. I LOVE IT :D
I want to do more content with this microscope, let me know if you have any ideas ;) I started including voiceovers in a few of my latest videos. Do you like it?
@@muteFPV Then I have to check, I probably miss some videos :) I like all your videos, you put some much effort on them. I'm fascinated with diy electronic projects, board repairs, ... If I can suggest an idea, I think the last Vifly store safer can be upgraded adding halogen bulb to increase its discharge time. I have no idea if it's doable though
Thank you very much! I have the vifly boards on my bench as we speak, maybe I try it. But even if it works, I am not sure it is something I should publicly recommend to everyone, a mistake may lead to unpleasant situations. Also I won't be able to know the circuit specs, how much current the traces can handle etc.
Never saw a need for the solder practice boards. The only issue I ever had was on old DYS FC that had a signal pad that was in a horrible position along with being a bad thin design. Only other trace I have ever burned/torn was on a micro 16x16 board.
I don't need it for practicing now either, after years of soldering electronics and especially micro stuff, my eyes are the problem now, not my hands :P But I do use it as a warm up before a soldering session, it gets me going fast.
@@muteFPV worst thing I ever had to solder was surface mount LEDs on the instrument panel of my 2007 Tacoma. I LOATHE RED INSTRUMENTS ON CARS. I had the LEDs ordered before I even owned the truck yet. They are these tiny things about the size of a ballpoint pen plastic bit that holds the ink ball. You have about a 2 second grace period to tag them into place before you heat soak them and ruin them. Little tony marshmellos stuck to your instrument panel. I barely ordered enough between melting a few and putting a few on backwards by mistake... But at least I have one of the only Tacomas with blue LED lighting for the numbers/gauges and white needles. Sounds dumb but it is much more soothing and calming to be driving at night. It alsondidnt help that at the time Amazon didnt really exist yet. My soldering iron I had to use was a tiny little double A sized pen soldering rig. It worked but just barely. Doing it with the TS100 these days would be so much easier.
Yeah definitely, temperature controlled soldering iron plays a huge role! I thought red is one of the less "intruding" colors for night time, for example astro-photographers use red flashlights to move around without affecting the cameras much.
Congratulations mate! You are one of the winners for my Ultimate Soldering Practice Board :) Send me an email with your details so I can send them your way asap (mutefpv at gmail dot com)!
Fantastic idea and project. I started to buy but price is a little steep for me given that I can solder pretty decently being in this hobby (helicopters/cars and now quads) for 8 years. If the price drops I'd love to get this as I still struggle with really small stuff like 16x16 stacks and AIO tinywhoop boards.
Thank you! Please note that I don't sell the board myself, I share the project and anyone can get it directly from the manufacturer. Maybe split the cost with a friend, you don't get just one board at that price and buying 10 is a fairly cost effective quantity. The castellated holes (the holes around the board, right on the edge) increase the price significantly but allow for an important soldering practice on their own. I am thinking of designing a cheaper alternative (without the half-holes at the edges) but it will take a while.
Fantastic work, dude! Nicely done! 😃 Do you know what I just remembered? Your 1s parallel board... Remember it? So, I don't know how it works, but Drone Mesh made a few projects and he sells it at Banggood! Anyway... Just an idea for you to think about. 😊 Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Thank you very much mate. Some other guy made a similar board after I did mine and sells it too. I don't have much time to deal with stuff like this, I prefer to finish some other projects I have been working on. I am not here for the money anyway 😉
You will definitely enjoy practicing on it then ;) Especially if you start adding wires on the pads, the pads and the half-holes with the small spacing are super tricky!
The C O and D letters are connected in pairs with traces. Letter L has all the pads connected with larger traces. This results in higher heat dissipation. You can also add wires on one side of the board to increase heat dissipation even more, so this practice board is not limited to just one time use (not just for tinning pads and soldering a few components).
These look very cool! I'm down with buying whatever I need to learn the art but when I got to choosing "surface finish" I had NO IDEA what to select because what I want is what I will deal with on most quads. I am that new to this! When I select different options the price changes anywhere from $25 to $200! So now my cart is open and I'm frozen not knowing which to select so I can get what I need without paying WAY too much! #NewbieProblems
Hello! HASL will be your cheapest option but will be easier to solder onto. I prefer OSP which is a bit more expensive but helps you practice timing heating the pad and applying solder to it. Actual PCBs of ESCs, for example, have a lot more copper and most probably multiple layers, as well as large surface common grounds which is usually the most "challenging" pad to solder onto, especially if you want to solder a large wire (the smaller the AWG number, the larger the wire). My practice board won't help you with this, but its large square pads are a good practice for this purpose.
The New generation of fpv needs you come back. We miss you. 😊
I miss this hobby too, a lot :(
Awesome project, this should be part of every beginners toolbox. You can thank mr Bardwell for putting me onto your channel.
Thank you and welcome! I hope you find my content useful :)
That’s a Lot of editing. And that board should be framed and displayed. It’s beautiful.
Thank you very much mate!
Love practice boards! Soldering is so fun!
It is fun when things are going well 😂
You are the best. this board is the best for me to learn how to Soldering. After will be more easy to build my first quad and also fix my quads (tina)
Thank you Andreas ;)
This is what everyone needs. Just a awesome idea. Cheers

Awesome Board mate, much better than the diatone one :)
