Me feet and ankles are so much stronger and pain free since going barefoot a couple years ago. Took a little while to get used to it but now I can tolerate my skates longer, too! 260 lbs double knee ACL
I don’t think you’re getting proper recognition for your mustache game. You’ve gone from shady ‘70’s New York detective to 1920’s strongman in a very short time. This has been a good year for the channel. It’s been noticeable how you’ve opened up more to the wider TH-cam community (that you basically created) and you’ve been on a hot streak for the past few months. Great work!
Vivobarefoot Primus and Primus knit are great for the gym! Been training in variations of these for the past 8 years, also train wrestling and jiu jitsu, so it mimics the sport the most for me. Keeps me mobile, my feet are strong, stable, and have great balance. I'm also 5"7 160 lbs. so it was easy for me to adapt to them. I have been running in Altra as well so it's been a good balance of minimal shoes and cushion for higher impact.
I wear the Inov8 Bare-XF, the newest iteration has the wide toe box, zero drop and a very comfortable insole, and the soles are grippy too. They usually run $120, but they do offer sales and discounts to first time buyers. Their customer service is fantastic too. I also have a pair of the Born Primitive Savage-1 I wear once in a while. They are much different than the Inov8’s with a 3mm heel stack, thicker sole, and lean more towards the support side than barefoot, but they are pretty good and geared for those who want a more traditional all around lifting shoe.
Vivo has been my go-to brand since a friend introduced me to them in 2010. They are pricey but I have never had a problem with their quality or durability and they easily outlast other brands. I have a pair of Vivo training shoes, their dress shoe and my wife and I love their hiking boots. That said, I also appreciate Xero. They are better priced and I like the wide toe box. I like to keep a pair of Xeros around for casual wear.
Vivo barefoot is a social enterprise. They do social work, recycle old shoes and give them a second life and the people making the shoes make a good wage. Other companies their shoes for cheap abd sell them for hundreds of dollars. Vivo does good work so i support their business model, even if the shoes are expensive.
Altras for running here. Xeros for lifting, walking and rucking. Recently added Xeros for casual wear and in the office. You’re spot on about how easy they are to pack when traveling.
As a person with wide feet, altras are amazing. I have the same pair and they’re great for trail running and everything else really. I just wish they had other shoes with the boa lace system then the one model they currently have
My go-tos for training are TYR L1 lifters when I'm squatting or doing Olympic lifts, Asics JB Elite wrestling shoes for everything else in the gym and Altra Escalante Racers for running. When it comes to hiking I wear an Altra Temp for most things and Salomon boots depending on the trail conditions/difficulty. I've been in love with the Quest 4 GTX since the military, it's an amazing backpacking boot.
Thanks for the video Coop, I like real reviews about barefoot/training shoes cause some of them get too expensive. I used to wear Altra Lone Peaks and Escalantes, but they've gotten narrower over the years and I switched over to Lems when I wore the Altras out. I might give Vivobarefoot a try if I see them on sale.
I've been wearing the same pair of Xeros for weightlifting for years now and love them. I got the Xero Dillons that I wore every day until the tread was nearly worn through at the ball of my foot. I asked about the warranty and got a new pair for 60% off! Love their shoes
I work in construction and wear steel toe boots every day for 15 years now. Specifically because we lift and carry a lot of heavy stuff. I’ve been wearing some running shoes for lifting (only started about 5 months ago) but it seems so weird to not have toe protection lol it like it’s hardwired into me. what’s the benefit to the barefoot style shoe? I have seen shoes that have wedges too assuming for squat. Is there really a difference between decent running shoes and the barefoot? I’m considering trying but am pretty budget conscious(aka cheap AF 😂)
Altras are the best hiking shoes hands-down. Personally I like the Superiors more than the Lone Peaks. Like Coop, I've worn them through the Narrows at Zion as well as for the John Muir Trail and other sections of the PCT
I recently started wearing the Vivobarefoot Primus Trail ll. It's my 1st time wearing a barefoot/minimalist shoe and I'm really liking them. I wear them as an everyday shoe as well as a lifting shoe (including deadlifts and squats). I like the additional nubs of tread on the bottom of them for everyday use and they have a little bit thicker sole (than the regular Primus version) which I also like because I was afraid my feet would go into shock with the switch to a barefoot shoe 😂 but it actually has been awesome. I would totally buy them again, especially since I did get them on sale 😊
I actually started training in a pair of Xero HFSs because my 8 year old wrestling shoes finally developed holes in the toe box. They were lying around and I never expected to use them for training but they're pretty decent. Surprised to see em on the list
I got the Magna Forest ESC and I love them. Real good for everything I have tried and with the leather and stitched on sole I'm not worried about durability. I do some running in sand and workout on a rubber mat and they grip great in both.
I wear my Xero Prio for weightlifting and cardio days. They're very comfortable and have amazing traction so my feet don't slide when performing glute raises or my V-Squat machine. For daily walking I use the Flux Adapt Trainer. They look great and are very comfortable with zero drop and wide toe box. When hiking I have a pair of Merrell barefoot shoes and Xero Ridgeway Mesh low tops I alternate.
I went from the Nike Metcon to the Vivobarefoot to now the StrkMvt Haze. Really enjoy the strkmvt so much more. It’s a good combo of the metcon 4 and the barefoot exp with the Vivo with a bit more structure on the toe for them sleds
I love my xero's as well!!! I used a 3ml insert when i was first getting used to barefoot style. Agree on the recommendation. (And they wash well in the machine! No need to be smelly, lol)
I wear the Xero HFS almost every day. Also, the first pair I bought had a defect and they sent a new pair for free while letting me keep the ones with the issue as well.
Coop! Loved this video. Not sure if you've ever done workout clothes videos, but that would be great. I'm always looking for good gym shirts that are both loose fitting and also breathable (not polyester). I always end up with shirts that don't fit me right or are too hot to workout in. Happy Holidays!
Under Armour is my favorite shoe brand. I was a Nike guy for so long but I bought a pair of Under Armour they fit me better, last longer and tend to be cheaper.
Love it, Coop! As a physical therapist and movement junkie, I can’t agree with you enough for all of your recommendations! I personally love Vivo’s and wear them every day - my wife wears Xeros and loves them. Keep up the great content!
I love Vivo's (have worn various models for years) for almost all uses*, but their pricing is difficult to live with. For me Primus is the go-to for gym use. *- except snow/ice. Vivo soles are not good on slippery cold surfaces, slide like a mf.
Got a spare pair, feel a bit heavier, bulkier than my motus flex (favorite)…better suited for colder, wetter conditions. Still very decent, I’m just nit picking
@GarageGymReviews , you should try the Tyr L-1 lifting shoes. The upper seems to be much more sturdy than others I’ve tried, plus they’ve got the anatomical toe box. I switched from Romaleo 4 to the L-1 and haven’t looked back
I was going to mention this as well. L1s are my first. I have pretty wide feet so majority if weightlifting shoes are a no go for me.i ordered half a size up ?UK sizes) based on comments I read at the time which recommended 0.5 to 1 size up. Tyr have come out with a new one which looks like the old addidas weightlifting ones I think coop mentioned. They look good. They are expensive though 😅
barefoot squad where you at
🦶🦶
One of the best things about a home gym is training barefoot.
Me feet and ankles are so much stronger and pain free since going barefoot a couple years ago. Took a little while to get used to it but now I can tolerate my skates longer, too! 260 lbs double knee ACL
Future injury squad! Yay!
Five finger fans
Let this be known our boy coop here has a bag addiction. I’ve been watching closely over the last couple months. This man has many bags.
I don’t think you’re getting proper recognition for your mustache game. You’ve gone from shady ‘70’s New York detective to 1920’s strongman in a very short time.

Coop needs to create a mustache channel FR
Hah. I was going to say a 1970s porn stach 😂😂

Wait, y'all are wearing shoes?

You need to try the TYR barefoot and their lifters are awesome!
Altras for running here. Xeros for lifting, walking and rucking. Recently added Xeros for casual wear and in the office. You’re spot on about how easy they are to pack when traveling.
Zero for the win. I add orthopedic insoles in them
I’ve been wearing Altra for a year and it’s honestly the only shoe I wear unless church or date night. Their running shoes are fantastics too
As a person with wide feet, altras are amazing. I have the same pair and they’re great for trail running and everything else really. I just wish they had other shoes with the boa lace system then the one model they currently have

The affiliate link for Xero leads to Altra, fyi

I‘ve been using the Xero HFS for indoor gym, Vivobarefoot Primus Trail for outdoor gym, and the Altra Lone Peak for running/hiking.
Using Vivobarefoot motus flex & vibram v-run. Been using barefoot shoes since like 2005
I've been wearing the same pair of Xeros for weightlifting for years now and love them. I got the Xero Dillons that I wore every day until the tread was nearly worn through at the ball of my foot. I asked about the warranty and got a new pair for 60% off! Love their shoes
For anyone who plays turf soccer, vivobarefoot makes the best barefoot style show that works(mostly) on turf. The all weather primus.
I work in construction and wear steel toe boots every day for 15 years now. Specifically because we lift and carry a lot of heavy stuff. For strength training my favorite shoes are from Avancus.
Born Primative - best gym shoe for wide toe box
I recently started wearing the Vivobarefoot Primus Trail ll. It's my 1st time wearing a barefoot/minimalist shoe and I'm really liking them. Gel Cumulus for the win. Nike SB slides for lifting and some Vessis for disc golf and hiking.
Big +1 for Xero. My Prio Neos are awesome for lifting, and my training partner loves his regular Prios. Great customer service, too!
I got the Magna Forest ESC and I love them. Real good for everything I have tried and with the leather and stitched on sole I'm not worried about durability. I do some running in sand and workout on a rubber mat and they grip great in both.
Good timing, need to buy!

I have a pretty wide foot...wife has called them hobbit feet. Do u know how xeros hold up with a wide foot?

FiveFinger nerd for around ten years for gym, running and casual, only shoes I wear and love them.
Yeah I’ll shamefully admit to using an iPad as a camera at a wedding too, 🤣. Didn’t wear vibrams at the wedding though
$230 for NO TECH, horseshit!

2:15 GAAAAAYYYYYY
Yaz to the Altras! Theyre my go to nursing shoes, no problem with 12 hours on your feet all day and blood etc washes right off!
Under Armour is my favorite shoe brand. I was a Nike guy for so long but I bought a pair of Under Armour they fit me better, last longer and tend to be cheaper.
Link for the first shoe is incorrect
Vivos have tonnes of disocunt codes with sponsored athletes, can get 20% or so off usually.
@Garage Gym Reviews, the link for Xero shoes is pointing to the Altra shoes
Love it, Coop! As a physical therapist and movement junkie, I can’t agree with you enough for all of your recommendations! I personally love Vivo’s and wear them every day - my wife wears Xeros and loves them. Keep up the great content!
FYI - the links for HFS and Altra are the same. You might want to fix that so you can get credit for sales.
I love Vivo's (have worn various models for years) for almost all uses*, but their pricing is difficult to live with. For me Primus is the go-to for gym use.
*- except snow/ice. Vivo soles are not good on slippery cold surfaces, slide like a mf.
My training shoes are Altama Maritime Assault Low shoes. They are an awesome all-purpose shoe.
The TYR Dropzero high tops are basically like the vivos without the lugs.
Xero Xcursion Fusion (black). Works well rucking. Waterproof.
I wear bearfoot brand even to church if the mood strikes. Two years on my first pair and they need replacing finally
Otomix stingray here for lifting
Yet I see Coop rocking birkenstocks with socks in the gym. LOL
Love my vivo's! Also shoutout out to Topo's, Altra and Xero!!!
The first link to the first year is not correct. Please post the correct link.
New Balance Minimus
Try TYR Zerodrop
Anybody here using the Vivobarefoot Motus Strength?
Got a spare pair, feel a bit heavier, bulkier than my motus flex (favorite)…better suited for colder, wetter conditions. Still very decent, I’m just nit picking
Would love xero but have arch issues.
Strength university make a wide toe lifting shoe. Sold by TYRSPORT I believe
How do i block this channel? I thought sele ting hide from my channel would work but its been 2 days and im still seeing his videos.
Everything barefoot is overpriced
Bearfoot shoes for me.
Of course coop is featuring some $300 shoes
little surprised apex avancus isnt on the list
u should colab wit brand to make ur perfect training shoe ;) that mix of modern and old good goods
Aside from dress shoes and snow boots. I wear vivos.
Vivo all the way!
Gotta fix that HFS link
The only right answer is Avancus
Strength university make a wide toe lifting shoe ….
Nano 2.0 All Day
Vibram five fingers or xeros are the best
I just wear Vans most days.
You just said that you wear the first two pairs all the time. Channel should be called lying sellout …
Stop saying “thin” when you mean “narrow” already. lol
Xero forza
Great review, thanks. Food for thought...Nathan is not "your" videographer, he's the videographer. ;)
All these shoes are ugly but those Vivo ones might be the ugliest shoes I have ever seen
I did my own review earlier this year th-cam.com/video/1sa77lS7mbc/w-d-xo.html The @tyr drop zero were my favorite and continue to be to this day.
Don't tell Coop about Norda
There's a reason why they're not mentioned... smh
