Subodh Gupta, though now an institution in his own right, was once referred to as the “Damien Hirst of India.”His utilization of ready-mades and skull installations contributed to associations with the YBA artist, but Gupta rejected limiting analogy from the beginning: “I respect Damien Hirst, but I want people to accept me the way I am.” Through the 12th episode of Brilliant Ideas by Bloomberg and Hyundai, viewers are encouraged to explore the various aspects of Subodh Gupta who is recognized as one of the representative contemporary artists.
I met subodh sir 2 n half year ago,, actually I worked with him few days..
I found he is really a very energetic,hard working,e emotional as well as practical person.whatever he achieved only because of his passion,,he struggled a lot,language problem,metro city culture problem,art world politics problem(in India sometime or some people don't consider u as an artist if u belongs to a area which don't have art culture or if old artist r not from there),even then he proved himself and taken Indian art up to international market without any God father.
ya it's true he don't paint some of his paintings,,(its a controversial topic artists,gallery,buyer always talk n have their different views)but d thing is only some great people like Subodh Gupta openly admit it even on this stage of sucess.
so guys we should proud on him.
Don't think he can be called the Godfather of Contemporary art in India.

saw his paintings at a big show once ...immediately i felt that he had not painted them, there was no shakti in the work, no energy at all, they were like a copyist's paintings ... he was there, i asked him, he acknowledged that he had not done them .. yet they were something like 100k euros ... how dumb is the art world and the art market
gregorylent fabricators make the work we gawk at as genius and those who make these pieces earn meager wages..... in India I don’t even want to think about it.....
The case with most artists nowadays, I get a sense. For the paintings.
And he has said as much.
But for the sculptures, its understood he will be using specialists.
As do koons, kapoor, Serra etc etc
