It would really be great to add a wick guide for coconut soy.

We list suggested wicks on the Wick Guide for the C-6, which we no longer carry, and the 454, which we do currently stock. We are only able to suggest wicks for coconut soy waxes we offer though, as this has allowed us time to comprehensively test them. Generally, the CDs were recommended for the C-6 and the ECOs or LX wicks work well with the 454. We can definitely work on getting more content out outlining which wicks work best in different waxes as well!

Can you explain the pros and cons of waxes wicks vs raw wicks? That would be so fantastically appreciated 😅❤❤

Absolutely! If you're working with pre-tabbed wicks they will often be waxed. They're usually coated with a blend of vegetable and beeswax and this keeps them rigid and easier to work with. If you'll be using raw wick, they often come on spools and can be cut to a specific length so there is less waste. You can choose to coat them in the wax you use and tab them though! You don't need to coat the wick in some cases but they can fray if they are left too long at the start. For me, I would opt for raw wick if I were making candles with specific or odd sizes and like them for pillars. But in most cases, it can be a little easier to work with waxed wicks and I use these most often.

What wick works with soy 415?

Typically, we recommend using CD or ECO wicks with the 415 wax. The size wick you'll want to use will depend on the diameter of the container you'll be using. The Wick Guide can help narrow down options! www.candlescience.com/learning/wick-guide/

Which type produces less black soot in parasoy blend ( 75% soy)?

It can depend heavily on the wax but because the CD wicks can tend to mushroom a bit more, I'd test the ECOs first.

@@candlescience in my experience ECO wicks always give black smoke.

The diameter of the jar will play the largest part in what wick to use. The Wick Guide is a helpful tool that lets you see different wick suggestions for different waxes based on jar diameter and can be found here, I use it every day!

    I’m using coconut apricot wax
What wick is good for this wax

    • @candlescience

Because we do not carry coconut apricot wax, we have not done enough comprehensive testing with it to be able to suggest a specific wick. Both the ECO and CD wicks work well in soft, natural waxes though so it would be worth a few test burns! We have also received feedback that wood wicks and HPSP wicks may work but we have not tested them.
