Great Tips Toby... I often hit a key that turns on the filter, and couldn't figure out what key it was... What I always do is right mouse button, and select "recent commands" and then click on whatever filter command that shows up there to undo it. I think I will go and un-program those hotkeys, as I never use them intentionally.
I'll take a look at it again - It's definitely possible that I was looking at it wrong and made a mistake. I'm not even sure if its supposed to be first angle or third angle projection, and the view that is used to generate the section view is pretty funky. I'll try to re-create the drawing from my model, and if it's wrong or if I made a mistake, I'll create a follow up video to explain. thanks for the heads up :-)
Toby, quick one for you. When I am in drawings and throwing on dimensions, it is sometimes difficult to grab an edge. Like, I try to hover over it and it highlights for a microsecond. by the time I can click the button I have moved the mouse so minute that the selection is no longer valid. Anything on that?
Gotcha. I generally like dark themes but find on SW it works against or doesn't contrast enough with certain things. Colors of entities, scan point clouds, etc. Edges of text and icons used to be jagged or blurry, not sure if they fixed that yet.
I had the same edges selection issue, but it wasn't a hotkey. If you have Section View set to "graphics-only section" you can't select edges for some crazy reason.
hey toby i'm asking you again... could you please make a tutorial on how to do custom colors and if possible maybe save them for later cheers mate have a great time!
basically what i would like to do (or have) is, a thick and glossy black glass material, a glossy white material possibly without the yellow tint that comes with the default "white" car paint material, and a non-glossy wood material that looks like teak, and maybe some glossy wood material with a burr walnut texture... probably you can guess from that, what the model i'm working on is all about ;)
I am glad I found this channel for learning Solidworks.
I'm glad you found us too!!
Thanks! will definitely keep this in mind for the future
Yeah thats a good one to know about!
Great video.
Not gonna lie this has gotten once or twice in the past.
🍻
Lol - yeah I used to run into this all the time!!! Definitely a good one to share with newer users
ah jeez thank you, i literally spent 1 hour trying to figure this out and you fixed my problem
Awww yeah! Glad that helped!

try holding shift? shift seems to be magic for spots like that
Thank you so much ! This was super frustrating 😭
yeah it's crazy that those are the out of the box hotkeys!
You joined the dark side!! I want to switch to the dark interface but it's hard to commit :)
Nah - I just thought it looked good for that video. I still work with the 2015 style interface - medium light with green and yellow icons :-)

@@ivanloewen I also lose the MINIMIZE and exit buttons when I have the background (scene) set to something dark - BLAH!!
@@TooTallToby come on, no one uses those! :))
Man! I was just restarting my solidworks cause of this exact problem as you were saying it in the video 😂
lol - nice - glad this helped!

SolidWorks being SolidWorks lol
U r the best. Glad I decided to google and not try to figure it out by myself!
Thanks, man!!!
You are very welcome! Glad this helped!!

So what do I do if I still can't select edges even if I have the edges only filter on?
try holding SHIFT
Thanks!
No Problem!
Thank you very much
You’re very welcome! 😊
Toby, let's get down to what really matters here. How do I change to dark mode? 😬
Glad I FINALLY got to answer this one!
You forgot to explain about the first button at the left of the filter toolbar 🙈
yeah it's always a tricky balance of trying get the info out there, without getting TOO into the weeds :-) F6 is a good one to know about too
THANK YOU
awww yeah!
How to get this color scheme??
like this: th-cam.com/video/G_o2HMia060/w-d-xo.html
🙏
yeah this one is a GEM!
Coool
Thanks
This has happened SOOO MUCH until I changed the keyboard shortcut to something else that's easier to undo.
Lol me too - I always seem to accidently press one of those keys!!
To my everlasting shame I used to restart SOLIDWORKS to turn off filters because I had no idea what was going on.
lol - you're not alone here bro. I've seen lots of people do that!!
@@TooTallToby yeah one of those things I learned teaching essentials 10+ years ago. Keep spreading the good word man.
how do i do it in v2023?
Should be the same shortcut key out of the box - F5 - or the toolbar is called "Selection Filter"
