I had a '73 4 door with a 250 inline 6. Doesn't matter if it's a real SS or not as long as you like it. I noticed a few changes like the front bumper and hubcaps but who cares, it's a really nice looking and running car. Like the Corvette valve covers too. Made a good deal there with this one!

Nice car. My guess is it’s a real SS, although, the only way to know for sure is with original paperwork. However, the front bumper has been replaced. That bumper is from a 1974 Nova.
There are plenty of places that have parts to fix the issues I see. The defrost switch broke off because of temperature fluctuations over the years, and I'm sure the prominent restoration sources would have that entire piece. The dashboard lights, someone said it could be the printed circuit board. I'm gonna have to agree with their assessment, because my dad had a 72 Nova, and he had to replace the circuit board because of the same issue. Your car is overall a very nice car. I'm gonna suggest to fix and keep it, because ask yourself this: where would you find another Nova that is this nice, without paying out the yahoo for it? I'm seeing the 68-72 Nova going for low to mid 40's ,so this being an off year Nova and not perfect, probably 25.
Owner of a 73 project coupe. Definitely not as nice or complete or functional lol. Probably just going to go street driven race car with mine. Got a virgin 454 block and 6223 427 crank to build for it.
1973 and 1974 have the same size bumpers. They interchange. The difference is the holes in the front. 1974 has smaller holes while 1973 were larger. This car has a 1974 bumper but it is a 1973 SS.
I bought a 1973 Nova SS hatchback brand new and you are correct mine did have the white stripe along the side of the body on each side. I had the 350/ 350TBH trans but I had a bench seat and none of the gauges. I did, however, have a sunroof which always leaked along the front when it rained. I'll take your word that the Quadrojet came on it, but mine had a 2bbl (Horrible gas mileage, 17MPG) Mostly due to the smog crap they put on these engines. They had that air pump that basically pumped fresh air into the exhaust Manifolds to fool the emissions equipment by lowering the PPM. Somebody got rich from this scam. All that appears also to have been removed from this engine most likely when they added the headers. I need to do some research to see it Chevy ever put a 4bbl on these engines. I never knew how rare that car was untill after I traded it in. I think my brother said they only made about 500 or the hatchbacks. In 1974 they made a bunch if them.
I did some checking and the 350 was available with the 4bbl Carb and 4 speed. I bought mine off the lot for just under $3600. Those days are gone! If I had ordered it, it would have been a much different car.
Yes the 4bbl was available on the 350. However, they made way more than 500 SS hatchbacks. We do t have the original numbers but it’s more like 11,000 SS hatchbacks in 1973.
If the block number match the VIN, it's a real SS. in 1973, the 350 4bbl, only came in the SS. If there is a "K" in the VIN, that indicates an SS. How much are you asking for the car?
Somebody posted on TH-cam a '73 or '74 Nova the other daybut replaced the front bumper with a '72 and older unit and it looked way better. I don't know how much modification was involved but it gave the car a better look than these government mandated bumpers that look hideous.

Nope. Not for 73-74 Nova's. SS was a dealer add on package. Only way to tell is to look at the window sticker. Looks like the real deal or a lot was done to get all of the dealer add on pieces which are different then the aftermarket stuff.

I hade a 74 ss and it had an in dash tack were the gas gage is. And a Saginaw 4speed. Rear defrost. No hatch back. But they do have ss hatchback.

Are you sure thats not a 74? bumpers are bigger than a 73 .

That’s incorrect. If the numbers on the block match the VIN then it just means it the original engine. That does NOT tell you if it’s a real SS.
a reall SS will have disc brakes front, 12 bolt rear and K in the vin, with dash tach
That’s only on the 72 models with the K code. Ten bolt 8.5 posi usually was the rear end for these models.

Not true. The only way to verify an SS in 1973-76 is with original paperwork. Nothing in the VIN or cowl tag will confirm an SS.
