    Not to mention also some of those apartment buildings charge an extra 200-300 a month just to park.

    Keep this up; and Denver will resemble Portland, Oregon with many tent encampments in the downtown areas of Denver; and they’ll extend into the suburbs!

    Sometimes I wonder if people could pull their resources together and buy land and build apartments or houses that they old then live in and be owners collectively. When you think about all the contractors, carpenters, plumbers, construction, electricians et… with skills in the trade of building. I mean when America was first settled they had to build log cabins etc… and I am sure they did it by helping each other. Acquiring the land was different but we have got to go back to having a mind of how to survive and being a community to help one another because our government is clearly for themselves, fiends, and corrupt friends.

  • @helengarrett6378

    This is not just a Denver phenomenon. Every city is having the same dreadful rent inflation. The rates of evictions and homelessness are accelerating all over this nation. This is going to beggar our working and our elderly people.
    All of the money we are spending on a war that cannot possibly be won in Ukraine is going to have to be paid for and some of that money could have been used to build or refurbish affordable housing that is safe and decent. Instead we are blowing up money in Ukraine and more billions are being shoveled into a losing war every day.
    Landlords are among the worst contributors to our current inflation. Gasoline isn't responsible for a 10, 20, or 100% rent increases that tenants are enduring. Landlords think they are entitled to excessive profits at a time when ordinary people are dipping into savings and using credit just to eat each week. Landlords are out of control. You know it and so do I. We need affordable housing that Landlords cannot exploit for obscenely excessive profits when our entire economy is under stress from three pandemic years and worldwide shortages of workers, food, and energy.
    We must negotiate the end of this horrible mess that Putin has caused in Ukraine. He is a menace to the wellbeing of ordinary people in Europe and Africa and our own country just because he wants power. There is no good excuse for what Putin is doing. He is crafty and has worked hard to destabilize our fragile economy and politics by helping to elect Trump for four chaotic years. Putin is one factor in the chaos that has divided our nation into lovers of the Constitution and democracy and power hungry bigots who want tear the nation apart in a violent replay of the Civil War. We cannot divorce high rents from the inflation we suffer, the crazy anti mask and anti vaccine rumors that circulate on social media and policies in Washington that benefit the wealthy and not ordinary people. Ukraine is draining us. Corporations are fleecing us. We have exported our manufacturing capacity. We do nothing about either the environment or global warming. We blame the victims of poor policy and we believe lies told to us by the same powerful and rich people who destroy our reputation, our security and our traditions of universal voting and the peaceful transfer of power.
    ALL OF THESE PROBLEMS ARE A UNIFIED AND INTERCONNECTED FAILURE OF OUR SYSTEM. WE NEED DEEP AND PERMANENT CHANGE AND WE NEED IT NOW.

    The rents are rising because people can afford to pay. Just not all people.

    • @helengarrett6378
      @helengarrett6378 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wrong! It used to be that if you paid more than 1/3 of your income you were paying more than you could afford. Now if you pay more than 50% you are considered rent burdened. Most working people are rent burdened. The landlords are organized and they collude to keep rents high. Unless we want to live in a tent under the freeway bridge we have to pay their prices. I live in "affordable housing" where 10% of the apartments were set aside for low income people. My social security income is all I have and I'm not allowed to even have savings beyond $2,000. I'm still rent burdened even living in "affordable" housing!

    Why has she been renting for 5 years? She could have bought an affordable home 4 years ago before the pandemic, or move to a place where she could afford a home. I lived in a hell hole until I could save up to buy a house. Too late now unless you have some major bucks. It's too scary to be a renter today, I don't see anything changing any time soon. If you procrastinated buying the past 10 years that was a very bad decision.

    Just accept that is “everywhere “ is not going to solve the problem. It’s not true that is everywhere, in the east cost, the values are way lower but insurance is expensive due to hurricanes, specially closer to the coast. The problem in Colorado are the abusive HOA fees and the unwillingness of the incompetent governor to put a limit. Bigger and better properties in Florida have HOA fees less than $80 a month, in very exclusive neighborhoods with 24 hours security, ornamental gardens etc less than $300 per month. How in the world an HOA has a salaried attorney? How you see extremely high HOA and doesn’t include in the fees, insurance for the roof? It’s absurd but worse is the complacent attitude and lack of legislation to control HOA s and their corruption! Coloradans put up with everything going wrong without putting a fight and demanding effective solutions from the local government!!!
