    I had no idea that one could tamper with evidence, actively destroy evidence of a brutal murder, and receive such little time. I wonder why people who break car windows get more time?

      When the victim's family approves it, it can make a big difference in some cases. Not all, but some.

      @ddbb7505 But we are talking about a plea deal here where the family did agree. I never said their approval was needed, I even said it can make a difference in SOME cases, not all. But in this specific case, they were in agreement.

      because she’s a woman, women get away with murder every single day in america. no shocker there, l did more time in jail for riding my bicycle (with no brakes) on the pearl street mall in boulder, colorado, this is a phucking travesty. but definitely no surprise she just got a slap on the wrist, and this vile scumbag probably thinks 30 days is too harsh of a sentence, this woman is vile

      @stephaniels5421 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@raspberrysherbet5285 Geez, I wasn't even disagreeing with you, but you're getting all defensive, lol.
      But I think the confusion is on your part. I stated "also" in my comment, meaning "in addition to". I realize family input is far from the only factor, but it can be one of them. This is a plea deal, so it is actually the prosecutor who communicates with the family. From that point, the prosecutor pretty much designs the terms of the deal, and it is up to them whether they work the victim's family wishes into the deal. Then, they may alter the terms a little after a bit of back and forth with the defense, but once the defense gives the thumbs up, the prosecutor presents it to the court (judge), and the judge accepts it or rejects it. In most situations, if both sides are happy, the judge agrees. The family being good with it too is a little extra insurance that the public won't get too ruffled.
      And yes, breaking a criminal law (not civil or minor traffic violation) will usually get a defendant on probation arrested is "common knowledge", probation is often viewed as a slap on the wrist, and while it can be, IF that defendant is such an immoral person with a criminal mindset, versus a person who once made a bad mistake, they won't be able to go 5 years without another arrest. So, my point in saying that wasn't an explanation of what the word probation means, it was more like a reminder that she'll have to walk a tight rope for awhile. When I worked in the system, most probations violations involved a defendant being around a firearm. Didn't matter if they were riding in someone's car who had the gun in the vehicle, or if they were visiting someone who had a gun on their property. so, yeah, probation isn't always so easy to follow.
      Also, about the 'disorderly conduct' being BS....while I am sure there have been people charged with DC who deserved it, it's also known as a charge that cops can use if they want to hold someone or if they are just looking for a reason to arrest someone. Same thing with PI. I think a DC charge is a $25 or $50 fine in some places, lol. Unless someone is being dangerous, it is a joke. Hell, I thought that was "common knowledge", lol. If this woman is on the the local cops' s**t list, they can literally wait for her to walk outside of a restaurant or bar after having a few drinks, arrest her, and charge her with PI. I can understand those charges if they are endangering others, but they leave a lot of wiggle room for a cop who wants to arrest some certain person.

I don't think I would've/could've agreed to it, but that type of grief can create a need for the legal stuff to be over, so they probably just don't want to go through painful trials. I can see that side of it, too. They just want to try to heal and they can't do that until the legal stuff is over. I am sure their hearts are broken all to pieces. Such a tragic ordeal.

    I’m a recovering opiate addict with 4 years clean. When I got arrested, I would’ve been able to bail out the next day after seeing a judge. But I asked to stay in jail to go through withdrawals so I wouldn’t relapse once I got sick.
    When it came time to sentencing, they probably took that into consideration, and I was given 3 years probation and 30 days jail with time served since I asked to stay in jail to get better and they allowed it. You’re right, this sentence is incredibly light. The ONLY thing I can understand is that a mother’s nature is to protect her son at all costs. All the same, he made a choice that holds consequences no living being could or should shield him from.

This was NOT about bringing an end to the suffering of the Bailey family, but about a woman who didn't want to take the chance of spending up to 5 years in the prison system. At no point has she ever apologized to the family or shown remorse in any way. She knew EXACTLY what she was doing. Her son is a psychopath. Much of the recent research has advised that psychopaths are born, they are not made. Early trauma can make it worse, and the vast majority of psychopaths do not murder, but this does not apply to her son Aiden. Chrystal Smith and her husband KNEW something was gravely wrong with Aiden. A girl was missing, and her son's jeans are covered in blood. They knew. They both knew and as a result of their arrogance and sociopathy, they interfered in a murder investigation, increasing the pain of the family and community tenfold. Like her son, she's only sorry she got caught. RIP Tristyn, and hoping her family can begin to heal.

    For the sake of the Bailey family and all their friends I’m glad this is over and hopefully they can try to heal in some way. I felt it was a slap in the face when Crystal Smiths attorney said she didn’t know at the time of washing the jeans. I believe she knew it was something bad enough that she was happy to break the law. It’s unforgivable and I hope her and her sons actions haunt her for the rest of her life. RIP Tristyn 😢

    You can tell her lawyer has a beautiful heart, the way she glances over at her client, searching her gaze for any fear or pain and meeting it with a warm and reassuring smile. Sending a message of understanding and making sure as woman to woman that she does not have to feel entirely alone in the moments about to come. Bless her and all other souls alike.😊

      Frankly, if the women in this case wanted to be supportive of each other, then Crystal Smith should have used this opportunity to honestly and sincerely apologize to Tristyn's mother from the bottom of her heart for the pain caused by her own actions as well as her evil son's, but she chose not to do that, so I'm not really too sympathetic as to whether or not Crystal felt supported, scared or alone

      @Hannah Rose M. The lawyer who didn't direct her client to make a sincere apology, or atleast make one on her behalf. Instead, the lawyer talked about Crystal's loss because her son is being held responsible for the death of this little girl. Of course he is, he killed her. Whatever, I'm not trying to have an argument, I just thought it was a bit of a weird take to be so enamored with her lawyer, when personally, I don't think she did the right thing either. But, of course, just my opinion.

    • @Sassy.scorpio
      @Sassy.scorpio ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's her job not her personality. The case is one of several that she'll be hired to serve for and when each of those cases come to a close in court she goes back to the same life she led prior, she's not the criminal on trial. She is paid to try and extract sympathy from the jury/judge for her client, that's literal the job description and each case that she takes on becomes a sales pitch and an advertisement to find more clientele. Lawyers can and often do personally feel negative or uncomfortable with who they're representing but they're not being paid for their own opinions they're getting paid to represent someone else's opinions. If either of them made a statement it wouldn't have mattered how sorry they sounded, it wouldn't make anything less painful and awful and it wouldn't have changed anything.. it would have been taken out of context, picked apart and labeled as a plea for pity. Also the defendant always gets the final choice to speak or not speak and because they're the ones on trial & they've hired the lawyer to work for them they also have the ability to decide whether or not they want the lawyer to make a statement. At the end of the day the lawyer hasn't done anything to justify being pinned as guilty in the court of public opinions. The defendant will be prosecuted appropriately through the penal system, there's no reason her lawyer should impose an additional punishment of ignorance and hatrid, she's got plenty coming already.
