    Never underestimate the pins Liz. You don’t want to have to run out in the middle of a storm to find something to weigh down the plastic. Lol, trust me.

      Hi! Yes it's one of those tasks that is easy to skimp on and then regret it down the line. I'm pretty sure I've put in enough, but time will tell :-) Thank you for dropping by.

    Wow what a power of work you’ve been doing Liz. I’m sitting with a cuppa catching up with all your videos I’ve missed over the last few weeks. Hope you’re well xx

      Hi Kelly, how are you? It's spring, I get busy as the light gets better and tail off as it the days get shorter again in August and September. Winter is for hibernating :-)

    This weather has been great for cracking on with jobs in the garden. Those satisfying jobs really give incentive to do more. Have a good weekend 🙂

      Hi Linda, yes the incentive levels definitely rise when it's such a visible difference. I hope the weather holds for you to be able to get on with tasks over the weekend.

      Hi Benni, aw look at the cat in your photo - I hadn't noticed it before, is that a Norwegian? The weather is lovely here for the last few days and it is supposed to be nice for most of the next week. Hopefully I will get lots more done in the garden.

    Do you plan on keeping the paths with the black weed blocker or will you put wood chips on top?

    • @LizZorab
      @LizZorab  ปีที่แล้ว

      I removed the paths over time and by the time we moved from that house, there were no paths in that area at all.

    • @health.bites.5615
      @health.bites.5615 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought this was on your new farm. I am battling with weeds in my garden paths. I love the look of wood chips but even when I put them over landscape paper, we get lots of weeds. I'm wondering if using weed blocker for paths with no mulch on top would do better.

    Good day to you Liz !! I use the same holding staples for my weed suppressant fabric too and I like using more than you would normally use because less light can get underneath and that means more weeds will be killed off quicker

    • @LizZorab
      @LizZorab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good day to you too! It gets so windy here that I worry the membrane will get picked up and torn away. It's all coming together slowly out there now and it won't be too long before we can start planting in earnest.

    • @LizZorab
      @LizZorab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      I suspect that we will have snow again before the spring arrives. Obviously it's not quite the same as the feet of snow that you get in US, but somehow the UK always comes to a near standstill when it snows!

    Great minds Liz, I've spent all day in the garden and have achieved so much. Flower and veg beds weeded and mulched :O)

    • @LizZorab
      @LizZorab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Nice achievement! Um, er, weeding hasn't really happened here as yet. I walked past the raised beds earlier on and thought that I really ought to do them and then a cup of tea called me, so I came inside to do some work here instead. I really do need to start with the weeding though, those little plants will be monster-size before too long!

    Have you considered the benefit of staggering the pins holding down your plastic? Certainly, pin the end corners but coming down the sides, here in Central Florida, we pin the sides every three feet down one side then space them on the other so they re not straight across. It gets verrry windy at our sundown and it helps. I also see no reason to hoe the grass if you are putting cardboard on top of it. Working Smart! not hard!

    • @LizZorab
      @LizZorab  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Carol, yes i did put the pins in alternate place until I did that last one on camera - not sure why I did them like that for that piece of membrane. Yes to working smart not hard :-)

  • @MrBobthephilosopher
    @MrBobthephilosopher 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    Love the idea of double planting (leeks/strawberries). You might end up with a leekberry(or a streek)!

    • @LizZorab
      @LizZorab  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm also going to plant strawberries in the asparagus beds, you know how I like every space to work at least twice! Live chat at 2pm GMT tomorrow (Sunday).

    Liz, I am covering different animals in my FB Hobbyfarm group and I was wondering if you have/had a dog and how well that situation went and would you decide differently looking back?

    • @LizZorab
      @LizZorab  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Sylvia, I have never had a dog and am unlikely to ever have one. Sorry that wasn't terribly helpful for your group! :-)

    • @sylviaharris7404
      @sylviaharris7404 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LizZorab Thats no problem Liz, I think it is just as interesting. Why do you choose not to have a dog? Most folks see it as a security measure. We have 6 acres, our dogs are mostly pets, but they do keep the wild creatures like rabbits and deer at a distance.

    • @LizZorab
