This guy is the reason Lawyers are generally viewed with disgust. All rational people understand DJT acted in a criminal manner by (1) taking classified documents without notifying any department (2) refused to return the documents when subpoenaed to do so and (3) shared some of the classified information with 'associates'. When a lawyer such as 'Trusty' tries to justify crimes using twisted logic regarding the Presidential Records Act he only reminds us of how disgusting DJT and his associates are. My father was a lawyer. It is wrong to smear a lawyer with the behaviour of the client. Court lawyers are specialists (like a plumber or an electrician). Their specialty is to achieve the best result in court for their client. The client selects the cards, the lawyer plays the hand. If, like Trump, the cards are terrible, the lawyers need to try more desperate things.

There is still such a thing as being ethical and having high moral character when you are an officer of the court. The nonsense that Trusty was spouting has already been debunked many times over. From up here in Canada, I think that it's too late to redeem the GOP. For now, normal and decent conservatives have to support Biden, even holding their noses, to beat this fascist MAGA menace. Once MAGA is marginalized, they should start a new "Lincoln Party", behind people like Cheney and Kinzinger.
My 2 cents.
The problem is that the President is selected via the Electoral College system and not the popular national vote. This means that in Nov the winner will be determined by the result in 6 or 7 midwestern and southern states where the support for Trump vs Biden is finely balanced and to that end the Republican Party in those states has been working hard to suppress the Democratic vote on the day by all sorts of ways. In all these states even if the winner is by a few votes they get all the electoral college votes for that state.
Trump lost the national popular vote in 2016 to Hilary Clinton by several million but won the electoral college due to 106200 votes spread across 6 key states. In November the GOP are banking on the same happening again.
Watching from the UK, what sort of justice system can be fair if the judges are political appointees?

This year, DJT was only pulling barely over and sometimes under 60% of the vote in several places over Nicky Haley while Biden was easily pulling over 90% of the vote everywhere. That roughly 20-30% of republican voters who said screw DJT should have him very worried right now! Just google Republican voters against Trump and see what THOUSANDS of republicans are saying. It's not looking good for Don the Con.

I think the founding fathers made the assumption that, by definition, judges would be people who were beyond reproach and would have high ethical and professional standards. We are seeing now that, unfortunately, that is not always the case. So, yes I think this is a definite flaw in our system.

If Cannon had erred on the Law ONCE, the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals might rule against a writ of Mandamus. But with the 11th CC ruling that Cannon has misinterpreted the law TWICE, I think they will rule to remove her from the case, as the DOJ would request with a writ of Mandamus! We can always hope!!!

They lost this case when they drew Cannon. It’s over. You can’t win a prosecution if the federal judge is hostile to your case.
Of course Cannon didn't rule on the documents pretrial or dismiss the case. That could be appealed. She wants to wait until a jury is seated and force them into a directed verdict that the documents were trump's under the PRA and they [the jury] has to acquit, with jeopardy attached.
That won't work because Donnie obstructed and that's what he's being charged with.

She denied it as a dismissal of the case only after being threatened, but reserved the right to allow the defense or even her to bring it up at a later time. Either the defense and/or the judge can use the PRA as a defense, or they can't. They both can't be right. And that's exactly why Smoth has no choice but to bring this to a higher court to decide. And while he's there, he should as for her recusal ask she's obviously biased for Trump.

Enough of the delays already. Trump's been treated more than fair throughout his criminal cases and must stand trial before he dies of old age. The people deserve no less.

That's not a very clear statement, really. In this case, Trump never ever attempted to recategorize all those documents he took. At no point did he say or do anything of the kind. Rather, he took steps to conceal them; at one point he falsely claimed he only had a fraction of the total; and most importantly, apparently the majority if not all of these materials aren't "presidential records" within the meaning of the Act. Rather, they are classified defense and intelligence documents, not records, nor presidential; only those with the proper security clearances can have access to them.The PRA simply is not applicable.
