I used to work with a guy who was spineless. Our boss was a a little man who liked to bully the other guy.One day he comes in yelling about mistake s made on my day off.The other fellas wouldn't admit to doing it.So I said fuck it."I did it"!He yells at me for 3 to 5 minuted.then he leaves.we all get back to work. The boss returns an hour later yelling at me for taking the blame for guys.lol I said it made you stop yelling an that's all I needed.lmfao. He had to smile.

Lolz... You just reminded me of a similar incident when I came back from leave in the Navy, and just admitted to something (that I obviously couldn't have done) just to give our chief a "vent"... SO he bitched needlessly for about fifteen minutes before he remembered that I'd just come back from leave...
Then we spent nearly an hour in an argument about whether it was better for me to "take the message" to the guy who'd actually screwed up (it was stupidly small and petty)... AND then we were knocked off for lunchtime.
What happened was that I proved (to the chief) my point that after all the bitching, all you've really done was waste a bunch of time when work needs to get done. Although, it was kind of fun to push that particular chief's buttons... (I let myself enjoy a little sadism.) ;o)

Mr Willink I'm in my last semester of highschool and I feel myself loosing the motivation to go everyday,I have so much work and I'm falling behind. And i just so want to be done with school all ready. Once out of highschool I want to become a Seal as well. Is there any advice you can give me for these last few months of school? It would be greatly appreciated

      Not feeling it? Good.
      Stay after it.
I don't want to do it.
      Good. Do it anyways.
There's plenty of things I don't want to do. But I do them anyways. NO FUCKING SLACK

The modern western world (idk about the rest of the world) constantly preaches motivation. However in reality, discipline >>> motivation. Discipline urself, get ur work done whether ur motivated or not. Seal training is going to be impossible for u if ur not disciplined enough to even get school work done. I can say this because I also fell for this motivation stuff, ended up not doing anything for 20 years. Now over these past few months ive taught myself discipline, i went from not doing anything all day to not having time to relax all day all due to disciplining myself and doing stuff i like. As i think mike tyson said: "discipline is doing something u hate like u love it"

It seems to me he understands it's more effective to make people think they are doing him a favor. He accomplished his goal and built up psychological good will instead of butting heads. That inch of ego he sold bought him a foot equity. Also context matters. Hitting on his wife he probably wouldn't call on the same strategy.

      Dr. Catherine C. McCall [ThePhilosophyDoctor]
Is that a covert dig at ‘toxic masculinity’ ?
Seems like a bit of gaslighting here. Here is a guy that won’t blame you, even for YOUR failings as they affect him, and the response is ‘it’s easy for him’
But you know what’s great about JW? Even at that point he would probably say, hey, I’m sorry I came across that way, my fault, here’s what I will do to correct it going forward.
The beauty of an honorable character is even the mud thrown at them from the gutter looks dignified.

This is 100% all true without a doubt. UNTIL…the same blame is being repeated by your partner on a daily basis maybe multiple times a day over a period of years. Then your calm mature stoic and “ being the bigger-person” demeanour suddenly disappears one day and you completely lose your mind and all sense of existence and possibly explode into a blind rage. That’s when divorce papers come in handy. 😊

  • @gnarthdarkanen7464

It's a great video and discussion...
I might point out though, even in the context offered here, that "issues" have different categories and should be prioritized as such...
For the feet on the table... It's a social cues and engagement of respect issue. Civility teaches us that it's just better manners (and therefore respectful and respectable) to keep feet on the floor. It's a small thing, so just don't escalate. It's the same for people with their hands in their pockets instead of showing, or exhibiting horrible and lazy posture. BUT sometimes, contextually, it can be handled better as a "pep talk" about having pride in one's self rather than someone taking issue with the social faux pas. Teaching doesn't have to come as a bitch-session...
Dry chicken... There's only about six hundred thousand different ways you can "get away" with cooking damn decent chicken. Some are drier than others by rote, and some are easier to keep seared outside and succulent, moist, and so delicious inside...
Here's a novel approach for the dudes who HATE the dry chicken... Look up "braising" techniques. It's not difficult. There's a HUGE variety, and some of it is going to be EXACTLY the thing you AND your significant other (or household cook) is going to enjoy. It can even be a WONDERFUL group project.
Braising is just a matter of cooking the chicken IN a sauce... Be that a brown, meaty gravy, or a rich and tangy vegetable sauce, spicy curry goop, or whatever... You can add vegetables in slices, rings, decorative cuts, or chunks (for the unrefined hack, like me) just whack 'em to pieces and throw 'em into the pan... pot... skillet... whatever!
Here's the trick. Instead of a line like "Honey, I love you to death, and you do cook really good BUT..." (stop right there... artists don't hear "but", they hear "forget whatever BS I just said")
SO try this line... "Hey HONEY! I just found this recipe for curry braised chicken fricassee, and I think it sounds absolutely WONDERFUL... Would you, since you clearly know how to cook this stuff better than me, help me make dinner tonight instead of doing it all yourself?"
AND bam... 9 times out of 10 (if you guess her pallet correctly) she'll still do most of the "heavy lifting" in the kitchen, and then YOU GET LAID FOR BEING A GOOD MAN!!!
Frankly, I'm a little surprised it didn't get mentioned... BUT maybe (we can hope) it was just somewhere's else on the podcast. ;o)

PROTIP: Tell your wife this "way of cooking X" gives you heartburn...tell her you dont know why & that it takes great but you get heartburn. TRUST ME this shit works. No one likes heartburn so it's easier for her to blame my weird physiology than her crappy cooking.

I take a little issue; or rather, I'm a bit afraid to take responsibility for myself in cases like the feet on the table. Don't get me wrong, it's commendable, but I do get worried that taking such a position in certain situations might make me pass off as someone who always takes blame to avoid confrontation.
That said, I'd really love to hear opinions and criticism on this idea, since it's something I've been struggling with myself.

Butter under the breast skin. Don't over cook it. Very easy. Brining can also work. But, most importantly, don't buy factory farmed quick growing chicken raised indoors. They have almost no saturated fat. Hence they will always come out dry if cooked to well done.

I am quite good at keeping chicken tender. And I almost exclusively use supermarket chicken, cuz yeh I ain't rich. Problem is most people treat chicken different from beef or more exclusive poultry: they just keep rolling it all around in the pan till it all looks good. Wrong! Treat every piece like beef. Sear the outside and keep every piece in check then either lower the temperature or after the searing is done introduce whatever sauce you wanna serve and let it sit in that for a bit till the inside is cooked enough to not make you die of salmonella hahaha. And some people are always in a hurry. Lower temperatures for longer are almost always better for keeping just about anything tender. Such a waste to have to wash down turkey with water because it's dryer than a desert..

Why apologize to an obvious asshole? My gym is no shoes. If someone walks in, doesnt know, and steps on the mats with their shoes. No biggie, we just explain and clean the area they stepped on real quick. If they do it again, they are expelled. Third and fourth chances with long apologies is not a great way to make a point nor maintain personal integrity

The astronauts that work together on the ISS have a sane system of having to deal with each other at all times of the day in a inclosed place and its acknowleding that everyone does certain annoying things and agree to tell each other right away freely to stop doing anything that annoyes them and vice versa. Could be anything from keeping a drawer open or not recapping the toothpaste.
Haha found this works great for when you move in with family or people in general to tell the person you yourself may do some annoying things and its okay to call you out on it and you do the same to them so nothing gets brewing with that thousand cuts of little things that bother you everyday.

Just a general comment that is not gonna be popular here. I’m 59 my dad served in ww2 my brother is a marine, and I love the ideals of our country. I listen to this podcast and benefit, and I admire Mr. Willink a lot and use his example to motivate myself to do better. But I do see the glorification of the military. I see people like GEneral Mattis lionized without mention of the civilian deaths he causes in Iraq. I see no mention of the fact that the Tonkin gulf incident was a lie fabricated by our government , that led to 60000 of our young men dying. I believe in discipline, hard work, and making a contribution, and this podcast delivers. Totally. But I also believe that as free citizens in a free country , e must speak truth to power, and that is an honorable and necessary responsibility. That’s all I wanted to say I thank you Mr. Willink, and echo Charles , for your good work.
