This video is about waste separation in Germany. Garbage separation in Germany is very tricky. In this video, you get to watch how waste is disposed of in the right way before recycling.
Different trash lands in different bins.
1. Biowaste - Brown/Green bin
Biowaste like leftovers of cooked food and uncooked food, dairy products, meat, etc
2. Paper/Cardboard - Blue bin
Avoid throwing pizza boxes and paper plates of fries in the blue bin. Food traces can create problems during recycling.
3. Packaging products made of aluminum, plastic, tetra packs, can and tins - Yellow bin/ Yellow bag(Gelbe Sack)
4. Rest of the wastes like diapers, bills from stores, any solid items - Black bin(Rest müll)
5. Hazardous waste like batteries is collected at supermarkets. Most of the supermarkets have bins for batteries.
6. Glass- Glasses are collected in three different bins based on the glass bottles' color and are white, green, and brown. Throwing glass bottles should be avoided in "Ruhezeiten"/Quiet times.
Ruhezeiten/Quiet times are on Sundays, public holidays and from 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm and after 8:00 pm on weekdays
7. There are bottles on which you pay a deposit and they can be returned back at supermarkets. They are called Pfandflaschen. These bottles are gobbled up by machines and calculate the refund - usually 8 cents for glass bottles and 25 cents for plastic bottles.
8.Special bins for clothes.
Used clothes and shoes do not need to land in the trash.
Bins to collect them can be found throughout most cities.
Charities resell recycled clothes.
