I have both and completely agree with summary - mc11 for canon glass, metabones for sigma / tamron glass The thing you didn't mention was the fit of the mc-11 is tighter and works better with heavier Canon bigger zooms preventing them from twisting and losing contact - ie the 70-200 as an example
Hi Cody, I notice something very strange. The MC-11 when mounting EF lenses, when the lenses have IS, it disables the IBIS in my A6500 whereas the Viltrox V EF-E5 enables the use of IBIS and IS together. Steady shot stays on across all IS and NON IS lenses. Dunno if thats the adapter or something else.
it seems that on the A7S, it doesn't work that well with Canon glass. My Canon 50mm f1.8 hunts just as bad as with the Commlite. Most people seem to have flawless function with the A7R2 tho. I'll get the older sigma 24-70 canon mount soon, and I'll see if that works better.
Hey Cody, great to see this video and first thing i wanna ask is that does the manual focus worked on the sigma 35mm art lens with mc11 adapter on video mode? Does it made a loud sound during continous autofocus in video mode? I was going to buy the sigma 35mm art lens with the mc11 adapter for my A6300 which i think have the same sensor technologies with the A7Rii. Hope to hear your reply..oh btw, i am more to lansdcape and a video shooter
Does it stop down the aperture in real time? I want my lens wide open until I press the shutter release button regardless of the aperture value set in camera.
Do I have to be worried about weight when I'm using the Mc-11 adapter on a sony alpha 6500 with a big lens like the sigma 18-35mm for example? I don't know if it's an issue that the mc-11 doesn't have a tripod mount on it, so I would imagine that a lot of weight would last on the camera mount.
Anyone know???? Why my MC 11 cant go down to iso50?? the minimum i can use was iso800 and above only?? And as i can see here in this video its on iso100? I tried some other canon lenses i have and yet its all the same...thanks
Too bad I didn't see this earlier. I just bought the MC-11 to use with my 35 and 50 Art and sold several Canon lenses like my 24-70f2.8II, 16-35f2.8II, and 70-200f2.8IS.
Hi there. Nice video man. Keep up the good word. How about now? Do you still have the MC11 adpater? What is your experience with it? Do you have reliable AF with this MC11? I'm looking into buy A7 + MC11 to use with my Canon lenses.
The reason Sigma markets this adapter as for Sigma only lenses is since if you put the camera in continues shooting mode with the Sigma adapter and a Canon glass, once you release the shutter the camera freezes and reboots.
Hi Cody, I've just got an A7ii. I've paired it with an MC11 adapter and sigma 35. I don't have access to AF system, it stays greyed out in the menu. Is there something I'm missing here haha!
Could you please help me with A7r (not mark 2) because it has only contrast detection points and you mentioned it works with phase detect system, any advice?
Thanks for the review! What tripod ball head are you using? It seems it supports the lens as well. Is that correct? I am looking for a good combination for my a6300 and possibly the sigma 18-35 and i need some support on the lens. Anybrecommendations? Thanks
Hi thanks for sharing! But I have a problem here😫 I have Sony A7 ,a mc-11, a 50mm 1.4 lens. But all the pictures I take is out of focus 😭😭😭 please help me
please help me choose the best adapter for Sony a7r II. i've been searching for this, which one is the best Metabones V or Sigma MC-11?? please I do really need the answer.
Great video! Exactly what I wanted to know. Having the A7RII and wanting to finally try some canon glass (and the sigma A-primes) this was really helpful - particularly the fact that it seems like only contrast AF is running on their own lenses. A strange decision by sigma...
I don't have a tamrom 24-70 but my 70-200 works great with the metabones adapter so I would say the 24-70 would be the same story. The 70-200 doesn't work though with the Sigma-mc-11.
I have both adapters and I have the Tamron 24-70 as well as the 70-200. The Sigma adapter does not work on my Tamrons at all. Very disappointing. The Metabones works well with the 24-70 and not very well with the 70-200, but it does work to a degree, just more hunting than it should. The Sigma MC-11 does work very well with apparently non-compatible Sigma glass though. I have the 105mm Macro which I use for portraits, and the Metabones was so shit I couldn't even use the AF. The Sigma is a drea,.
That's so weird :) using metabones for Sigma lenses and Sigma adapter for canon lenses? :) looks like I made a mistake by selling my Laea 3 which I used with sigma 35 A mount in order to get the sigma mc-11 :(
Hey Yasser, I actually just sent the metabones back today. I used the MC-11 only yesterday for a 10 hour wedding and it rocked. I found that once reception started, I used full wide focus and continuous af with the 35 1.4 and it worked perfectly! So now I have no need for the metabones. The MC-11 is built better and mounts more solidly as well in my opinion. I may have to do a remake of this video now :)
+Cody Hunter Photography that's great to hear. Thanks a lot Cody :) the metabones is really overpriced anyway. I will get the sigma 35 with mc-11 kit. looks like a good deal at $1000.
If you want AF in video you're best off using the Sigma adapter with Sigma lenses or just use Sony glass. Canon lenses will be pretty bad in AF in video as they'll be using contrast AF only.
i have been useing the mc 11 on the sony a7 ii, & i found the 50mm f1.8 mkii unusable & the 50mm f1.2 slow & hunts a lille. the canon 35mm 1.4 works great even in low light with phase detection.
No every time I pick up a mark III I HATE it. Focus problems and dynamic range makes me never touch the thing any more! I have a fuji gfx on pre-order though... So that all may change ;)
I've been using the Metabone adaptor since 2014 and after recently firmware updates, the camera started to behave very weardly, it started to suddenly shut down, freeze, to reset the shutter count for no reason, to shut down and come back with totally different settings (settings that I used in a preview photoshoot) and so on. About a month ago I opened a thread on DPReview.com (www.dpreview.com/forums/post/58736899) to find out if more people are facing the same problems. Turns out that I'm not the only one, a lot of people are facing the same problems. Someone replied to my thread saying: "I'm using the exact same camera and lenses as you without a vertical grip. The camera is on firmware 3.30 and my metabones IV adapter is on .39.... I tried several updates on the firmware of the metabones and every time I went past .39 I had issues, so luckily you can revert back to .39 on the metabones IV adapter and everything works flawlessly with the tse lenses and the 11-24". I asked him to send me the firmware .39 to downgrade my adapter firmware and check if the problems persist. Once I've done it, the camera actually got way more reliable, many of the problems that I had disappeared, although it stills shutting down eventually and coming back with different settings. How about you? Have you experienced any problem with the Metabone?
Crappy! So I found that the fix for that freeze is to SHIM up the contact plate on the adapter! Pretty freaking lame. I found that on the contacts that interface with the camera, they sit a little bit lower than on the Sigma adapter... So I unscrewed the plate, cut out a piece of paper from a thick business card, and put it in between the contact plate and the adapter. Then I screwed the plate back down. That made the contacts interface with the camera more solidly and I haven't had it freeze again for about 20 weddings.... Then my last wedding it did again about 3 times. So I took it apart again and added a thicker card! Piece of crap. Emailed metabones about it about 2 months ago and never heard back. Emailed them again a few days ago... Haven't heard back! Great company! Hopefully the newly announced Mark V won't have these problems!
@Joas I'm using the original EF-E Speedbooster on the a6300 and encountered that very issue, "Random restart of the camera with previous settings". This seems to have original firmware on it too so I think it's as Cody discovered, a hardware issue with the contacts not matching up properly. Perhaps the older NEX cameras had their contacts in a slightly different position? @Cody wow great find, please make a video about it, subscribed.
Hmm interesting. I just a vid of a guy testing the MC11 with the Canon 100mm Macro and the Tamron 70-200 for Canon and the 70-200 auto focused better than the 100mm macro. The 70-200 auto focused like it was on a Canon body.
Weird I just tried my Tamron 70-200 again and it just won't work. I wonder if his was newer? I think it's the only lens I have that isn't working with the MC-11.
Every lens is more accurate on a7rII! There is pretty much no such thing as missed focus. I have shot around 30 weddings with the camera and NEVER have a missed shot.
FINALLY, this is the first MC-11 review I've found that was done right! Exactly what I needed to know, thank you
Best review about the MC-11 I found! Thank you.
I have both and completely agree with summary - mc11 for canon glass, metabones for sigma / tamron glass

how about canon 2470 2.8?

Hello Cody
May i ask, do you have any updated information after this long, which adapter would be better for Canon ef 50mm 1.2 L adapter to a sony a7c
Have sigma made an update for choosing the sigma lens phase detection mode since?
it seems that on the A7S, it doesn't work that well with Canon glass. My Canon 50mm f1.8 hunts just as bad as with the Commlite. Most people seem to have flawless function with the A7R2 tho. I'll get the older sigma 24-70 canon mount soon, and I'll see if that works better.

How about sony a7ii + sigma mc11+ 70-200 2.8 non os it is ok???
Anyone know???? Why my MC 11 cant go down to iso50?? the minimum i can use was iso800 and above only?? And as i can see here in this video its on iso100? I tried some other canon lenses i have and yet its all the same...thanks

Hi there.
Nice video man.
Keep up the good word.

Do you still have the MC11 adpater?
What is your experience with it?
Do you have reliable AF with this MC11?
I'm looking into buy A7 + MC11 to use with my Canon lenses.
My 50mm 1.2 on my Sony A7RII says wide open at 1.3. How do I change this to actually show 1.2?
Is the Sigma adapter still awful in low light with the latest firmware on both for canon lenses?
The reason Sigma markets this adapter as for Sigma only lenses is since if you put the camera in continues shooting mode with the Sigma adapter and a Canon glass, once you release the shutter the camera freezes and reboots.
Maybe in the beginning it did... No problems now as far as I've seen!
Hi Cody, I've just got an A7ii. I've paired it with an MC11 adapter and sigma 35. I don't have access to AF system, it stays greyed out in the menu. Is there something I'm missing here haha!
What about optical stabilization the Sigma MC-11 with canon lenses?
So really, you're saying you get the best results using Phase Detection for focusing?
I have the a7s II. I can't get continues auto focusing mode when shooting video. Any thoughts? Thanks
A7ii with canon glass for event photography (wedding and such) , what do you you recommend? I have the 24-70 f4 17-40 f4, 50 1.4, 85 1.8.
Could you please help me with A7r (not mark 2) because it has only contrast detection points and you mentioned it works with phase detect system, any advice?
The a7r doesn't have phase so it just isn't going to work as well. That's just the way it goes :(
Thanks for the review! What tripod ball head are you using? It seems it supports the lens as well. Is that correct? I am looking for a good combination for my a6300 and possibly the sigma 18-35 and i need some support on the lens. Anybrecommendations? Thanks
FWIW, it's technically not hunting per se. It's just confirming max contrast since it's using a hybrid of PDAF (first) & CDAF (second).
Can you make a video same to this but using the sony a6300, using the canon 300mm 2.8 and canon 400mm 2.8 please
What about the Sigma 24-105 f/4 Art Lens with the MC-11?
Would it work fine? Cause I have seen reviews of the adapter with only the Sigma primes.
Hi thanks for sharing!
But I have a problem here😫
I have Sony A7 ,a mc-11, a 50mm 1.4 lens. But all the pictures I take is out of focus 😭😭😭 please help me
please help me choose the best adapter for Sony a7r II. i've been searching for this, which one is the best Metabones V or Sigma MC-11?? please I do really need the answer.
Just be aware that since 26. 5. 2016 when this video was published sigma released two new firmware updates. I guess the test might be different now.
so it works with all canon lenses?
Hi Cody, i'm planinng on using the MC-11 on a A6300 with a Tamron 70-200 f2.8 G1 lens for sports is it any good?
Great video! Exactly what I wanted to know. Having the A7RII and wanting to finally try some canon glass (and the sigma A-primes) this was really helpful - particularly the fact that it seems like only contrast AF is running on their own lenses. A strange decision by sigma...
Have you ever try both adapter with Tamron 24-70mm f/2.8?
I don't have a tamrom 24-70 but my 70-200 works great with the metabones adapter so I would say the 24-70 would be the same story. The 70-200 doesn't work though with the Sigma-mc-11.

Cody, do you have focus pulsing when using your lenses at f8 in AF-c? sony or sigma lenses.
Switch your AF to single shot and that should fix the lens hunting past f8
That's so weird :) using metabones for Sigma lenses and Sigma adapter for canon lenses? :) looks like I made a mistake by selling my Laea 3 which I used with sigma 35 A mount in order to get the sigma mc-11 :(

Nice you'll love it! If you have any slow focus problems, switch to continuous af and it'll speed up a ton!
+Cody Hunter Photography thanks a million!
Does it work with the Tamron 70-200 di vc and if so what focusing modes are available.
afaik, there's no face detection/eye focusing when using Canon. while with Sigma lenses you get the full package of the Sony focusing system
That is not true..
MC-11 works great for me. Just trying to find the best 24-70 to use with it...
Thank you soo mush!
About to by a sony A7III and I will go for the sigma for my canon glass.
Have you tried shooting Video with these adapters?
If you want AF in video you're best off using the Sigma adapter with Sigma lenses or just use Sony glass. Canon lenses will be pretty bad in AF in video as they'll be using contrast AF only.
how about the AF in video mode?
AF in Video mode works with the Sigma adapter and SIGMA lenses. Just like a Sony lens would
does in body camera stabilizer works with the sigma dapter?
Thanks for the video and informations man :)
i have been useing the mc 11 on the sony a7 ii, & i found the 50mm f1.8 mkii unusable & the 50mm f1.2 slow & hunts a lille. the canon 35mm 1.4 works great even in low light with phase detection.
any regrets switching from canon to sony?
No every time I pick up a mark III I HATE it. Focus problems and dynamic range makes me never touch the thing any more! I have a fuji gfx on pre-order though... So that all may change ;)
does it work with 85mm L first generation ?
I'm not too sure. I just have the MkII. Maybe someone else has posted on this?
I thought canon lenses work better with metabone?
Doesn’t metabone give more focus options? I have the mc11 and just ordered the metabone iv. Also no af on sigma with canon lenses in video mode
Has anyone tried the 70-200 F4 IS with it?
I've been using the Metabone adaptor since 2014 and after recently firmware updates, the camera started to behave very weardly, it started to suddenly shut down, freeze, to reset the shutter count for no reason, to shut down and come back with totally different settings (settings that I used in a preview photoshoot) and so on.

have you tried canon 24-70 2.8 II with latest sigma mc 11 update?
man this sucks
i wanted to buy the mc11 together with the sigma 35 1.4 for my sony a7 =(
So this adapter is no good as well -.-
same setup im going for and ive tested it at a local store, works really great.
Damn. An extra $250 and the difference is like 2 lines of code smh
shooting a 4000?? what a noisy mess
slimsloppy not noisy
