Gonna get a lotta flack for this, but Fred and Jack's on 76th and Vincennes, in Englewood. Place has been there for decades and went there as a kid, best Italian beef sandwiches and malt milk shakes I have ever had.
Never been to that place BUT...... hands down the BEST beef in Chicago is Mr Beef. (Just looking at the photo here, they have TWICE the beef on their sandwiches. Order hot sweet and wet for the best. Grab plenty of extra napkins.
Nope ... I grew up on da Sout Side and the best beef is Pop's on Kedzie. A close 2nd is Mr. Beef which is now in Homer Glen. Buona is just a fast food joint ... Back in the day, there was Carmie's over in Cicero which was my Dad's go to place and the Charcoal Pit on 63rd St (which also had the absolute best burger too! It had 2 rectangle patties on Italian bread). I remember way back going down to Maxwell St with my Grandpa and getting a Polish and then on the way home, getting something (anything really) on Taylor St HAHA Now let's talk pizza! I call it "tavern pizza" which is paper thin with sausage and green peppers ... back in the day ... Onesti's (71st St), Little Joe's (63rd St), Santucci's (on Cicero but was a little different style) ... now a'days I guess the better ones are Ed & Joes in Tinley and Armand's in I think it's Lombard or Oak Brook ...

HAHA At one time, the old Italian butcher shops in northern New Jersey had those 5" high deli sandwiches, but those are almost non-existent now ... And how about the Taco Trucks roaming around LA and southern Cali! Speaking of CA, you'll find the best burgers in the world at In-N-Out (double double and chocolate shake!) And how about capping off with a Pomegranate martini at the Luxor hotel in Vegas! Man, now I am hungry! HAHA
